That said, there are a few things the venue could improve. Signage for entry is minimal we found ourselves waiting outside in the rain, hoping someone would pass by to point us in the right direction. Once inside, there was some confusion at Will Call, as staff initially couldn't locate our tickets. This was eventually resolved, but the process was a bit frustrating after already dealing with the weather and unclear entry. Something I was not expecting was a three floor walk up....While I managed fine, it's worth noting there doesn't appear to be an elevator, which could be challenging for anyone with mobility concerns. If I'm wrong let me know. A highlight of the evening was the opportunity to meet members of the Silkroad Ensemble, including Artistic Director Rhiannon Giddens. Very cool! These are world class musicians Grammy winners, Pulitzer Prize recipients, and Juilliard-trained artists--and the music, representing cultures from around the world, came together beautifully. It actually reminded me of a radio station I used to listen to in Chicago called "World Beat." On WBEZ or something.... One minor note: the seating could be more comfortable, and a bit more legroom would go a long way. Overall, it was a lovely experience and glad I finally got to visit this venue and it won't be my last. Parking is available via street parking or nearby lots.

I remember String House decades ago when I used to play so I knew they were reputable. They also carried the book and CD that we needed to purchase. Look for the white house with the bright red door on Monroe Ave. Parking is in the back. It was a short wait while they finished with other customers. The rental process was easy and quick. My daughter was already measured, but the associate did a quick double check and tuned the violin. It came with the basics - violin, bow, case, rosin, and a nametag. The price includes insurance and repairs during the rental period, which is a school year or 12 months. We didn't have to buy a shoulder rest because sponges usually work fine for the little ones, but it fit her well so we bought one, in her favorite color pink. Seamless rental process and so beautiful to see the instruments displayed all along the ceiling. It was nostalgic!

Stores like this are truly rare. Over the years, I've purchased several violins, a viola, and rented cellos from The String House--all of high quality. Their bows are equally impressive, in both variety and craftsmanship. Great cases too! Steve and Shelley bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and have guided me to some truly outstanding instruments. They are my go-to for shopping, maintenance, and repairs--whether it's sheet music, new strings, bow rehairing, or other luthier services. I have also taken advantage of their trade-in program, which by itself makes The String House the place to shop. In all areas, they always provide complete transparency about costs/pricing and quality. Steve and Shelley feel like family. The String House is a gem. Will be a customer for life.

In all of the Rochester area I have only found the following there: Friendly, helpful, honest treatment. They make you feel like you are the only important thing while you're there. Jimmie Jam and his staff are top notch in fitting you or your children to a correct instrument and lesson schedule with highly competent Instructors! I have found their prices to be very comparable, if not less than other musical sources and their knowledge will help you choose exactly the correct item(s) for your specific needs. Also, let me say that since I picked up the Clarinet again (at the age of 74), I have been taking lessons with them for a year now. The highly competent Instructors (who are all accomplished musicians in their own right) form an easy rapport with the students, and give more than just a "lesson", they actually teach the instrument, along with the theory (which is indispensable when learning any instrument). You could not get me to change Instructors or Stores for any amount of money. I highly recommend the American Music Centre as a music source to all of you. You will not be disappointed!

They have everything from concert tees, albums (vinyls, cassettes, cds), guitars, pedals, etc Some stuff you see in there just isn't preserved correctly though which is really sad... some stuff has been sitting in sun light so long and is so faded its heart breaking. They could definitely go through a lot of stuff to make some space in the clutter. I know that's part of the charm but it really makes it look like shit in there. I know I sound harsh but that place really is dope and is a true gem especially with the artists who have come through to take pics and play there!

The music store that all music stores looked at and said...."damn! I wanna be the House when I grow up! There is no other music store .. again, past and present that is as amazing as this store! We live in a time where unfortunately music stores have faded. It literally tears at my heart. I worked and ran a music store in Phoenix for close to 10 years. So when I see ANY music store, alive and striving....i shed a little tear of happiness. A good friend of mine, her family owns this place. One of the people there, was one of the best teachers I've ever had. She taught us and worked at the House with her brothers and she still works there even tho she's retired from teaching now. Glad to say my friend and her mom are still good friends of mine. I'm trying to not name them by name here haha! I stopped into House of Guitars at the beginning of November and it was like a time warp. We used to go there all the time when we were kids. It's literally exactly the same as it was...except the t-shirt section is a little more organized nowadays. We always had the hookup on the latest sh_t. I mean, we do/did know someone who works there haha. We would very often drive up there to get concert tickets...back when you could camp out and wait for the Ticketmaster counter to open and doing so was soooo much fn fun! We did that at Area Records as well (Geneva NY music store of the past). This was also a time when Ticketmaster didn't literally suck you dry of every last penny you have to get a ticket like they do now. Ticketmaster is the Devil of the music world. They truly are an embarrassment and a shame to those who get life from music! Walking through the cd, vinyl, tape section downstairs...I swear...it hasn't changed a bit, haha! I absolutely loved it. It's so much fun to just take some time to walk through there. They have .... EVERYTHING! And I love the massive room of CDs still exists! What an absolute treat, House of Guitars is! The upstairs...all guitars...hence..the name haha! How could I go on and write this and not mention the incredible selection of top tier guitars they have for you musicians to choose from. Perfectly displayed. It's a treat to the eyes! It's like a fat kid in a candy store! You walk through, wide eyed, huge smile on your face! Looking at all the delicious candy! Except the candy is... guitars, cd's, vinyl, miles of t-shirts, kitschy little souvenirs, Knick knacks...they have SO much! SOOO much! When you go..it's like a field trip. Reminder: if you've read any of my reviews, you know that nostalgia is very big in my world. This place offers that and then some. Even to the little babies of today...the ones who have come into the world of music stores after us..I just know it's even a special place for them. I'm just glad the store is still here with us so the generations after us can see what a TRUE! a magical af! A unique! A HUGE and beautiful music store is! Rather than hear stories like "back in the day we had music stores where you GO an buy music...." Now, thanks to the House, they can see how amazing these stores have been for decades and decades. I hope we never lose this amazing store. It means so much to so many of us. It's a connection to times that have come and gone. So visiting when you can...yeah, extra special. One last thing, the employees are the best. Super chill people, know their sh_t. Some things never change haha. I started to reminisce with one of the guys and he was like "yeah lemme know if you need anything" hahaha! Can't blame him. Would have kept him there longer than needed bc I've been going to this store since like the early 90s. Was nice to make a trip there after a huge gap in time since my last visit. Thanks for being amazing even after all these years, House of Guitars! The love the world has for you...is next level. No words can truly express it. Thanks for reading, YelGuitarers! Cheers! Ps. Check out alllll the amazing photos on their walls. Amazing stuff.

I'll never forget the way they treated me up there. There are some creepy similarities here, and I worry that if I bought the same volume of equipment I'd end up with the same awful experience. Some of the associates (at most locations) would say anything to sell you this stuff and then once you get it, everything changes. Oh we never said that. Oh you misunderstood. Oh no it's not meant to do that. Oh we're not responsible for that breaking. Some shady and really bad people. On the other hand the people down here are better than the Buffalo staff, not saying much though. My experiences here have been more positive, but I'd still rather go to a local music shop.

Although the reps were not rude, they certainly were not attentive. I showed them the bass. One guy needed to show it to the mgr. He came back and said they didn't have anything that would fit. Then he thought we could look and I remarked that was a good idea. They only had three and none would fit. I said Ibanez had a part number of one that went with the instrument on their website. We returned to the front counter and I thought he was maybe going to look it up. I also started some research on my phone. Next thing I knew he was checking customers out. I guess I was done. No acknowlegement, no "Sorry, we can't find anything", nothing. So I left. Won't be returning to this location. And they wonder why folks shop Amazon!
