I'm hoping my review can provide additional clarity and context on their practices, so that they can improve, because it's clear a lot of people are being misled and extremely inconvenienced by this place. I agree with what people say about the staff. It is definitely not a warm, welcoming place. That's not a big problem for me as I'm not the chattiest person myself, but it's definitely not the "island" feel you'd expect as a local. I want to make it clear that I don't blame the staff. They are clearly working in a difficult environment with upset customers, so I hope that whoever is in charge can help improve this. Now, getting to technician Ashley -- that's where I decided the place is not worth any investment of time, and left after ~7 minutes. We go back to the exam room, and things start normal. I'm a new patient but I came well-prepped with my prescriptions, etc. I start to talk about my contact lens needs and things get unhinged. This must be a sore subject with Ashley. She turns to me, glares, and says we will not be doing contact lens exams today, that's an entirely different appointment. This was surprising to me, because I've been visiting eye doctors for over 30 years now, and they all do a glasses/eye exam at the same time, and there was never any disclaimer up front that they wouldn't. And why does Ashley seem so hostile about the subject? But that's fine, I told her I was surprised because usually eye doctors do the exams at the same time and she says "you're not even wearing contacts and we have no way of knowing what your prescription is". Meanwhile I was carrying my prescription in my hand, which I had just showed her. Keep in mind I don't have any contacts to wear because I ran out of them. I told her this, but I think this is where Ashley trip-wired because I didn't fit into her list of excuses. After listening to a bunch of confusing sentences about why this is a totally unusually, unreasonable request for me to make, I called it. I simply told her that I'm going to leave because this is very strange. My guess is that this place tries to get by on volume vs quality. I'm sure there are enough first-time people coming through that are misled by the reviews. Note that most of the positive ones are for different locations, but the Coupeville ones generally have something ranging from strange to unhinged. I do hope they improve their practices. It's no doubt a horrible place to work, and I feel bad for the staff. I'll keep checking back on the reviews in case they improve eventually!

The receptionist couldn't have been nicer, she was friendly and personable over the phone and in person. When I got there, I was a little bit surprised at how dated all of the equipment looked, but whatever, it is what it is. Typically, every eye appointment I have ever had has lasted maybe 30 minutes tops, in and out, new prescription, done. Not so here...during the hour and half that I was there, Dr. Burge used every piece of equipment in the building...3 different rooms, eye dilation, the "air puff" test, slit lamp exam, some other test that he wanted to "use me as a guinea pig" for, along with the rest of the standard tests. After an hour and half, I was told that there was a problem with my cornea and I was to use eye drops every day and come back in a month. So...I left with no contact prescription or glasses prescription. Appointment number 2...after a month of eye drops, I went back. Dr. Burge did another slit lamp exam...for a full 5 minutes (a long time to have a bright light shining back and forth over my eyes). He then left the room for no less than 30 minutes, came back with a medical book and flipped through it looking for an answer to what could be wrong with my corneas...I sat through 15-20 minutes of a doctor trying to look up answers from a text book essentially. I left, again, without a prescription for my contacts (I did get my glasses prescription after asking for it), and a prescription for an antibacterial eye drop (when I asked if it was infection being treated, I was told no...this "might work though". Come back in a week and if it worked, great. If not, he would give me a prescription for steroid eye drops to see if that would work, followed by another appointment). ...another hour or more wasted... Well...I never filled the prescription for the eye drops. Instead, I got a second opinion from another eye doctor, and lo and behold...nothing was wrong with my corneas or any other part of my eye, and I left that doctor's office with updated prescription in hand and new contacts in my eyes. So thanks to Dr. Burge, I used up the one eye exam my insurance allows per year, and had to pay out of pocket for another exam from a different doctor just to get my prescription updated. I would say if you value your time, probably look for a different eye doctor.
