I am so happy I had upgraded lens replacement surgery on both eyes! I am writing this review…read morewithout my glasses, which makes me smile. Overall, a very good experience with NW eye. The surgeon is just delightful and I am still healing/getting used to my eyes (only been 1 week since the second eye) but I can tell already that this was a great decision for me. I'm only 62, but I had the beginning of cataracts (I am told this is very common at my age) and my vision was getting worse. I was so sick and tired of readers on-and-off, and it was a nuisance for teaching--had to perch glasses on the end of my nose. No more--I can read my lessons and talk to the students without any correction now. Upgraded lenses are expensive, but insurance paid for half of the total due to the cataracts, which are covered--I just had to pay for the special lens. My lesson learned to pass on is to get the second eye done as soon as comfortable. I think I had a harder time adjusting to and recovering from the first one because the upgraded lens are meant to work with each other. Once I had the second one done, the first felt instantly better. The second eye recovery was so much quicker! They tell me each eye is individual in how it recovers. OK--so why not 5 stars? I had to dock them one for the often frustrating lack of cohesion between the BHam clinic and the Mt. Vernon surgery center. I LOVE the way Mt. Vernon runs, and the staff are so nice and friendly. Not the same vibe in BHam. They are nice, but not as customer-service oriented. Just getting through to a human on the phone is a challenge, and you might get different versions/opinions from different doctors and staff in BHam. They all seem a little green. The call center doesn't always have accurate information. My only note about Mt. Vernon is that the discharge person is a bit abrupt and physically rough--which is a bit disconcerting when you are still a bit disorientated and feeling vulnerable right after surgery. (Both times so I know he wasn't just having a bad day).) It would be nice to have some of the more compassionate care you get before surgery. A last impression is just as important as a first one.

This place is chaotic. Too much differing or conflicting information. Huge $7000 price variations…read more(whoops we made a mistake). Changing policies. In the end, I traveled 6 hour r/t and paid for 2 nights in a hotel and didn't even get my surgery done. While it was a giant waste of money, I felt like I dodged a bullet. These are my eyes, I don't want them cared for by some place that feels sketchy.

I very rarely give one star reviews, but I feel like my bizarre experience here warrants one…read more My first appointment....I went there only needing a basic eye exam mainly to update my contact prescription, glasses too, but that was secondary. The receptionist couldn't have been nicer, she was friendly and personable over the phone and in person. When I got there, I was a little bit surprised at how dated all of the equipment looked, but whatever, it is what it is. Typically, every eye appointment I have ever had has lasted maybe 30 minutes tops, in and out, new prescription, done. Not so here...during the hour and half that I was there, Dr. Burge used every piece of equipment in the building...3 different rooms, eye dilation, the "air puff" test, slit lamp exam, some other test that he wanted to "use me as a guinea pig" for, along with the rest of the standard tests. After an hour and half, I was told that there was a problem with my cornea and I was to use eye drops every day and come back in a month. So...I left with no contact prescription or glasses prescription. Appointment number 2...after a month of eye drops, I went back. Dr. Burge did another slit lamp exam...for a full 5 minutes (a long time to have a bright light shining back and forth over my eyes). He then left the room for no less than 30 minutes, came back with a medical book and flipped through it looking for an answer to what could be wrong with my corneas...I sat through 15-20 minutes of a doctor trying to look up answers from a text book essentially. I left, again, without a prescription for my contacts (I did get my glasses prescription after asking for it), and a prescription for an antibacterial eye drop (when I asked if it was infection being treated, I was told no...this "might work though". Come back in a week and if it worked, great. If not, he would give me a prescription for steroid eye drops to see if that would work, followed by another appointment). ...another hour or more wasted... Well...I never filled the prescription for the eye drops. Instead, I got a second opinion from another eye doctor, and lo and behold...nothing was wrong with my corneas or any other part of my eye, and I left that doctor's office with updated prescription in hand and new contacts in my eyes. So thanks to Dr. Burge, I used up the one eye exam my insurance allows per year, and had to pay out of pocket for another exam from a different doctor just to get my prescription updated. I would say if you value your time, probably look for a different eye doctor.

I chose NW eye surgeons for my recent cataract surgery May 2026…read more My initial consultation and post-op follow up was at the Smokey Point Clinic in Arlington. The surgery itself was in Mt Vernon. The Smokey Point office has wonderful approachable staff. The exam process is similar to what you're already used to from the optometrist who referred you. There are technicians examining eyes. Your surgeon also will conduct some exams and interview you. At this point you will decide if surgery is for you, and if yes, choose your lenses. Your surgeon and staff will answer any questions you may have. By surgery day you'll be well prepared. Surgery itself only takes 15 min. However, there is prep, such as IV starting, connecting to monitor, mild sedation, that will add to that time. Surgery itself is not painful at all. You'll be leaving with a see through eye patch. Your clear vision will return as soon as the effect of the drops wear off that dilate your pupils. It likely will take several hours. You'll be home resting by then. You will go home with instructions and a dedicated emergency number to call should you need it. Your biggest challenge will be eye drop management. If you can, pay out of pocket for combination drops. (About $70). My surgeon was Dr Kuzin. He has picked a great team to work with. Dr Eden did my post-op exams. Throughout my treatment I felt well taken care of. My outcome is excellent. I suggest viewing some videos on cataract surgery and selection of lenses prior to your first appointment. You can find them on the NW Eye surgeons website or on YouTube. I'm a retired critical care nurse. I highly recommend Dr Kuzin and team!

Everything was very customer oriented from thre immaculate waiting room with snacks, water and…read morecoffee, to the smiles and courteous welcome. Scheduling my pre-OP appointment/evaluation was easy. After seeing my regular eye doctor they referred me to PCLI. I received a call from the scheduling company within a day or two. She worked around my schedule and I got an appointment on the calender. A week before my evaluation, I received a message that they needed to reschedule and they gave me a time that didn't work with my kids drop-off schedule for camp. I left a few messages and an email to say I couldn't make the time they rescheduled me for. I finally got a call back ther morning of my appointment. That was frustrating but we got things figured out. My evaluation was fast. I waited 2 minutes before being taken back. The doctor stayed as long as I had questions and I never felt rushed. After that they let me consider and think about the risks and told me to just give the scheduler a call when I was ready if I wanted to move forward. Never any assumptions that I would but left it in my hands to make the best choice for me. I really appreciated that. They never held back or diminished the possible risks flit such a surgery. Scheduling my lasik appointment was again really simple. I called the lady I worked with before. A week before my surgery the scheduler called to tell me a few things to do or not do that week in preparation. She also answers my last few questions and really put my anxiety at ease. I really appreciated her. The morning of the surgery I had my husband drop me off before taking children to school which meant I was there 20 minutes early. No big deal. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place and the company of the ladies at the front. At 8:30 they took me back to the prep area. They had a locked locker for me to store my belongings of which they gave me a key so only I could access it. They were so very nice. They even gave me a gift for choosing them (a fleece vest). My husband was allowed to come back with me and watch the procedure. Before the procedure the doctor came to introduce himself and to answer any concerns. Wow! Impressive and shows great patient care. Once I'd been numbed to a degree they took me back to a sterile surgery room. Before they started the doctor asked if he could pray ( he would have skipped this if had asked). I said of course but I also wanted to pray for them. It was a very special moment and the feeling in the room was one of sweetness. The doctor told me everything that was happening as it was happening. I knew what to expect. It was a fast procedure. All in all from being brought to the prep area to walking out the door I was there an hour. It never felt rushed either and I never had pain or discomfort. I highly recommend this facility. Professional, speedy, thorough, customer oriented, beautiful facility. Can't go wrong.
