I had a very negative impression of Dr. Fong's general approach to patients which is to continually up-sell. In other words always recommending and pushing various procedures and treatments that are not essential, but make the practice money. This occurred while I was getting periodontal cleaning over several years, and I tried to pass it off as the current style of running a dental practice.
However when I had a major surgical treatment with Dr. Fong this incident occurred and is the reason that I'm giving this review and low rating: I was 5 minutes early for my procedure and was taken back to the treatment room. Dr. Fong and his assistant gave me the shots to numb my mouth and left the room. I sat in the chair and looked at Facebook on my phone and after quite a bit of time passed I looked at my watch and it had been over an hour that I sat there with no one coming in. I didn't like that but decided I'd wait another 15 minutes. When it had been a full hour and a half, I sat up in the dental chair and was taking off my bib. At that moment the nurse came in, not explaining or apologizing and was "ready" to begin. I decided to go ahead with the procedure since my mouth was fully numbed and I wanted to get the procedure over with. Then a few minutes later Dr. Fong came in and without any explanation or apology, he began to work on me.
I have never been treated so disrespectfully by any doctor, dentist or medical professional in all my long life.
To add insult to injury at my follow up appointment, which was included in the price I already paid, he cancelled on me just before the appointment!
I would not go to a professional who acted with such callous disregard.
Then I wrote him a long letter describing my experience and saying how unhappy I was and asking him to write off a small portion of the fee remaining (probably 15% of total for procedure) and I never heard from him but got another bill. So this tells me that a) he does not care what my experience is and b) he has no sense of justice or the idea of acknowledging that he did not provide adequate service. So I paid the bill and am done with him and his office.
Update: I did receive a small refund and nice letter from Dr. Fong a week after this was posted. read more
