I don't normally give a business poor ratings and it took me a while to decide if I should leave…read moreone but I do feel like there is value in knowing what small businesses are doing especially if people feel like they are lacking integrity. I moved back to Hawaii several years back and this place was recommended to me. I know I take good care of my teeth so when I got the comment after my cleaning was "wow, no cavities, that's unusual." As if they were expecting cavities. However, after that, he did tell me that my gums were in the condition of pre-gingivitis and recommended a deep cleaning. That was weird to me so as I got more intentional about flossing and I did the deep cleaning procedure. However, after that one session, he recommended another deep cleaning just a month or so after. It already cost me several hundred dollars because my insurance didn't cover a portion of it. I don't know how often you're supposed to get a deep cleaning but that all didn't settle right with me. I decided to go to another dentist, the one from my youth, for a second opinion, and let her examine my teeth & gums. I didn't tell her anything about pre-gingivitis or my previous exam. She told me my teeth and gums were normal! I then asked her if it may have been because I got a deep cleaning. And she said no, that wouldn't have helped the condition of my gums. She said there are a lot of dentists out there recommending unnecessary deep cleanings and root canals for the additional money. These procedures require some sort of additional anesthesia or additional numbing drugs that rack up the bill. It was crazy to be made aware of such business practices that are not in the best interest of the patient. The staff of this place is quite friendly which is why I'm not giving them one star. I did notice they were pretty persistent in calling me for my next deep cleaning appointment, too. I never mean to bash a small business but this was my experience and I thought it should be shared in case it could help someone else. Especially if they feel something is not right in their gut or if recommendations from a dentist don't sit well.

I've had extensive dental work throughout my life and normally get treatment in Korea, but I needed emergency care after a chipped tooth caused a filling to fall out. The procedure on one tooth took around 3 hours, and there seemed to be repeated complications throughout. Afterward, I experienced SEVERE pain and sensitivity unlike anything I had ever experienced from a filling or crown. The pain continued for months, and I recently learned the tooth developed an infection, due to the restoration not sealed and fitted properly. I was also uncomfortable with the hygiene practices during the appointment. At one point, he touched multiple surfaces and opened drawers with the same gloves he was using for my procedure, and I had to ask him to change them. At that point he gave me major attitude, too. Super unprofessional. Last but not least, they were extremely pushy for payment before the procedure ever began. I had to pay in full the first time they took an impression of my tooth. Overall, the experience was below poor, and it resulted in long-term pain and complications for me. I'm really upset.

I couldn't get floss through, and it was insanely sensitive to eat. He didn't grind down my tooth enough the first time.... Thankfully he was able to fix that. I told him about the flossing issue too (not able to get floss through and sensitivity while flossing). He attempted for about 3 minutes to basically saw in between my teeth. I asked him "what's your goal in doing this?" (A genuine question) He said "we want the floss to not break". Amazing, so after sawing for a few minutes he just stopped and looked at me like I was supposed to give him instructions on what to do next...? I flossed the tooth, and it STILL RIPPED IN HALF! He didn't try to fix it again. He just looked at me and shrugged him shoulders like he couldn't do anything else about it. I will never go back to this dentist. You would think someone who's been doing this for 10+ years would be better at his craft or at least care about his product. Honestly embarrassing for him.
