Finally decided to get 3 tooth implants. I couldn't be happier with my experience with Dr Craig Yamamoto. I wanted someone with a lot of experience because the thought of having posts screwed into my jaw bone frightened me at first. I did a lot of research on the internet but I was still skeptical but in my initial consultation with Dr Yamamoto, all my fears were dispersed instantly. He gentle mannerism and thorough knowledge won me over. Plus, he asked me questions and listened intently. I've been to so many dentist and oral surgeons and have come across many uncaring or indifferent doctors or worst yet I get the hard sell. There's a lot of money involved in implants and when you need 3 like I did, some dentists see gold in dem mountains! But to Dr Yamamoto, I really felt like he was truly concerned about my health and welfare, easing my fears, making me comfortable, explaining in detail the process and all the while checking on how I'm feeling. I knew from that initial meeting, he was the one. The staff was professional and experts in their jobs. Each did their task efficiently and I could tell they enjoyed what they did, took their job seriously and knew they were a part of a skilled team that worked like a well oiled machine. The prep went smoothly and then came the day to place the implants in my jaw. He said it would be painless and I am super sensitive to pain in my mouth. By golly, it was! He worked quickly and expertly and we was done placing 3 implants within an hour. Constantly checking on how I was doing. While he worked he explained to me what he was doing., I liked knowing what was going on. In the end we had a talk on caring for the implants, the staff gave me explicit instructions for home and that was it. BAM! After the surgery I had no discomfort at all. A little swelling but I took no pain pills. I followed their instructions and a week later he checked his work and was pleased with the result. Now the implants need to attach to the bone for 3 months. Today was my final visit. I was ecstatic! Three months flew by and I never once felt pain, discomfort or concern. I knew it was a success. Dr Yamamoto checked first on how I was doing and explained what the torque test was for. He checked his work, did his test and was pleased. Done! What was interesting was that he asked me how my experience was with him and his staff. And if I was pleased to please comment on his practice. I like that. As a business owner, I totally believe in asking your customer for their business and their feedback. I feel, it keeps you honest and true to your profession. You have nothing to hide. Your customers and in this case patients are your best advocates. Why not ask them to be your spokespersons. A businessman or practitioner strives even harder at their profession knowing they will be reviewed by every patient in every procedure. Kudos to this exceptional oral surgeon, his entire staff and the incredible practice they have fostered. One last thing. I have to give credit to my dentist Dr Candace Wada for referring me to Dr Yamamoto. Dr Wada is another fine dentist who I was fortunately referred to by a good friend Tanya who works in the office. Dr Wada is in her own right a fantastic practitioner. Do yourself a favor and read her reviews. read more

uhm... landed on this page based on reviews and made the call and well, its kind of pointless since this office is referral based. should make it very clear so i can get back the 3 minutes of my life I spent talking. I am sure these guys are good. but at this point, purely speculative. read more

Went for my final 3 month post extraction check today. My appointment was for 9 a.m. and at exactly that time one of Dr. Yamamoto's assistants called me in. She then took a 3D X-ray of my teeth to see whether the implant that was placed in my jaw had set in the correct level in relation to the jawbone. Then Dr. Yamamoto came in to check whether the implant had taken firm hold in my bone and answer any questions I had. Then his assistant took did a 3-D scan of my teeth so that the laboratory could have exact measurements to create my crown which will fit onto the implant. Throughout this whole process all of Dr. Yamamoto's assistants were very professional, knowledgeable and expressed personal caring about my well-being. They let me know step by step what was going to be happening and kept me informed of my progress. The office was clean and had the latest in all the high tech gadgetry that was needed to perform oral diagnosis and surgery. The 20 assistants all had specialized jobs and performed them all professionally and with a good bedside manner. All of my concerns and questions were answered. What used to take two years to complete in tooth extraction and placing of an implant now takes 3 months with all the knowledge, skill and technological devices employed by Dr. Yamamoto. Dr. Yamamoto, besides being immensely skilled, is friendly, patient and has a great bedside manner. I should mention that my tooth extraction had been painless and not the least bit uncomfortable. I was referred to Dr. Craig Yamamoto for a post put in for my implant by my dentist, Dr. Chad Kawashima, who highly praised the professional work of Dr. Yamamoto. My dentist was right. I was totally impressed with the professionalism of Dr. Yamamoto and all his staff from start to finish. The procedure was explained thoroughly at the beginning; tooth extraction, post planting and stitching were painless; his office was filled with state-of-the-art equipment; he used the latest software technology to create a perfect virtual tooth mold for the lab; his polite and efficient staff made me feel at ease during the whole process. What a pleasant experience! And to top it off, the next day I was surprised by the beautiful flowers sent by Dr. Yamamoto. I have never been treated so nicely by any doctor before. I highly recommend Dr. Yamamoto to anyone. read more

Dr. Yamamoto and his staff are top notch. They are professional and kind. NOBODY wants to have oral surgery but they made this process relatively painless. They were accommodating and did a good job explaining every step of the process. They even told me up front what everything would cost. I hope to never see Dr. Yamamoto again, except at Costco, where I will give him a high 5 and thank him for his great work. If you have to have oral surgery, don't hesitate to come here. read more

My impression after speaking to one of Dr. Yamamoto's receptionist was appalling!! Not only she came across awfully rude and obnoxious and most likely has personal issues with her self esteem, she literally blew my mind as I listened to her conversation over the phone to a referring doctor, rolling her eyes at least 9 times and impatiently repeatedly bitching about how "she don't know what she's doing?" As a patient this is really bad! I hope Dr. Yamamoto will address this attitude asap. I really did not make out her name because she had a very strong japanese accent. Other than that the clinical side was excellent, doctor assistant was very caring and kind. I would definitely recommend Dr. Yamamoto again for my dental implant needs. read more

I had my wisdom teeth taken out last week by Dr. Yamamoto and it was a pleasant experience thanks to him and his staff! I took out all 4 teeth with laughing gas and was prepped on the procedure and costs beforehand so no surprises. The doctors and nurses made sure there was no pain or discomfort every step of the way. My mouth was not severely swollen the next day and I did not even have to use any pain meds (although this may vary from person to person and may depend on the position of your wisdoms). Wait staff were all very helpful and extremely nice. They switch between their Ala Moana and Pearlridge offices so it is pretty convenient. The only negative thing is that there may be a bit of a wait during your appointment because this doctor is so popular! As a side note, his office's interior decor is so modern and nice, not to mention very clean and tidy! All in all, highly recommended. His office at Ala Moana is suite #1720, not #1420. read more

I'll start off with saying that Dr. Yamamoto has earned all 5 stars without any hesitation from me. I've had some very bad experiences in the past with a long-time dentist who was negligent and didn't notify me of a problem that ruined my teeth. The problem was immediately diagnosed by my new dentist. I also experienced a different oral surgeon who is highly recommended by many dentists but wasn't prepared for my surgery. He had to ask around and look in different rooms for a necessary item to perform the procedure while he was in the middle of it! He also didn't know what he was doing with the nitrous oxide. It was quite terrifying. Well, my new oral surgeon is a keeper! Dr. Yamamoto tries to help so many patients which makes him a very busy guy, but he will try his best to accommodate you. In all honesty, the consultation was a little abrupt, but that was because his time and talents are needed for the procedures which he is performing in the other rooms of his office. During my two procedures on the same day, he was extremely patient and caring, constantly asking if there was any pain. In addition, I was reassured of his high level of expertise while he confidently performed the procedures. Thank you, Dr. Yamamoto, for providing an exceptional level of service! Sigh...unfortunately, I'll be back for more dental work, but at least I know I'm in good hands! read more

I had an appointment at Dr Yamamoto's Aiea Office today to extract a few teeth. I was greeted with warm smiles from both of the receptionists and within minutes, is was escorted to my room. When Dr Yamamoto entered the room, clearly explained my options and proceeded to numb me. I could barely feel the needle:). The procedure was surprisingly pleasant and quick! During the procedure, Dr Yamamoto and his assistants would always make sure that i was comfortable. I would highly recommend Dr Yamamoto to anybody who needs dental surgery. I been to other oral surgeons, he's the best! Five stars ***** read more

Just completed what is called a stress test for the tooth implant placed by Dr Yamamoto at the time of tooth extraction. I have three other implants and those required more than the visits I had with him. Only four visits. Consult, extraction and implant, one month check and finally the stress test today. Not only were the Dr and staff knowledgeable but they were also efficient. Though the office is always busy, I never felt rushed. They took the time to explain thoroughly each part of the entire process. Would recommend for your tooth/teeth implants. read more

Was referred by my Dentist to Dr. Craig Yamamoto. His staff was very professional and took care of my follow up appointment. They also called me the day after my surgery to see how I was doing. Great job! My son had 6 wisdom teeth removed. First is a consult, then the surgery at a later date. We were the first patients of the day. The receptionists were warm and friendly and the nurses great. Dr. Yamamoto asked if we had any questions. The whole procedure took about an hour. This is my third child to have wisdom teeth out here. Every time has been a great experience! read more

My experience with Oral Surgery Hawaii was very pleasant. Let's face it, no one really looks forward to going to the dentist, let alone, having oral surgery done. Dr. Craig Yamamoto, at Oral Surgery Hawaii, politely explained the procedure in a way to make you feel at ease. He and his friendly, and professional staff also make a conscious effort to make you feel as comfortable as possible and are very attentive to your needs. I would highly recommend Oral Surgery Hawaii. read more

Just had all four of my thirds (wisdom teeth) removed this morning. Only one was impacted, the experience was surprisingly plesant. I am so pleased with the service I recieved and the attention that was given to make sure I was okay during the procedure. No pain, no discomfort.. super quick. The office staff was incredibly nice, the estimate was on point and left no surprises and I walked out almost wishing I had another reason to go back in. Oh yeah.. the follow up next week. read more

I was referred to see Dr.Yamamoto for a tooth extraction and implant. I was very happy with the friendly staff and especially the skill of Dr. Yamamoto. They were able to schedule me quickly. I was a little late getting to my second appt but was greeted cordially. I wish I had plenty $$ to do more implants! read more

I arrived early but still had to wait 40 minutes. Staff is not that friendly. Not getting good vibes

Dr. Yamamoto was awesome! I had two horrible experiences years ago with two other dentists, but Dr. Yamamoto did such a great job and I did not feel a thing during the extractions. I will be seeing him again for another procedure and would recommend him to anyone :) read more

I met Dr Yamamoto for ten minutes for a consultation. Ten minutes was all I needed to make my decision. I found Dr Yamamoto to be arrogant and condescending. He dismissed what I had been told by my referring dentist's office and proceeded to speak "at" me. Not a good impression to leave with a prospective patient. This will be the message I pass on to others. read more

I had a tooth pulled and an implant put in at the Aiea office. Not only did I feel that Dr. Yamamoto did a professional job with these tasks, but he was also concerned about my comfort and well-being. Furthermore, the staff treated me well and were also professional and courteous. They were willing to work with me with my time schedule ( I live about an hour away) and were fun to talk with. The procedure went well and I am so grateful for a mouth that does not hurt and a job well done! Thank you!!! read more

Excellent Dr. and staff. Dental work done efficiently and professionally. Highly recommend.

Where do I begin? I was refered to him by my current dentist for extraction for a very badly destroyed tooth that they couldn't save. There appearenly have been a miscommunication because when my app was scheduled, it was scheduled as a consult, not as consult and surgery which I found out the day before when Dr Yamamoto's receptionist called to confirm. I tried to explain that I don't need a consult alone to determine whether I need an extraction, I already KNOW that I need one. The receptionist kept repeating like a parrot that I need consult first and then separate app for surgery. I told me if that's the case, I need to cancel and find another surgeon who can see me for extraction ASAP. At that point, receptionist told me that if my tooth was really bothering me, I should just come in and they will see if they could fit me in. She also started talking about talking a full mouth exray before the surgery. Me: I just had the full mouth exray taken by my dentist last week Her: Well, this is different exrays, we take panoramic exrays. Me: I know what it is. I don't see why I should take full mouth exray again when I am coming in to have work done on ONE tooth and my dentist office already sent my exrays to you so its not going to happen. That should have been a red flag right there-you are coming in for one thing and dentist wants to take exrays that you definately don't need? I didn't fall off the turnup truck yesterday. When I came into Dr Yamamoto's office, the same crap started again. Receptionist told me that I was scheduled for consult only and that doctor couldn't do surgery today. I was seriously pissed at that point and told me that she was the one who said that they would fit me in. She said then"well, you may have to wait until 5(I came in at 3). Fine, I just wanted to get this over with. After I had a chat with Dr Yamamoto, he said that he couldn't see me for surgery and I had to reschedule another app. I then told him that his worker just told me that he COULD see me at 5. After some consultations with his clearly incompetent office staff, he told me that since she DID say that, he will have it done today. I was told to come in at 4:30 so they can prep me and give me an injection of Novocaine. Noone started on me until 5:00 when Dr Yamamoto's assistant put on some topical numbing agent and left me sitting for another 20 min. By the time doctor came to give me a shot, nothing was numb anymore. He is good at shots so I hardly felt a thing. He then only waited few minutes before proceding to pull my tooth. I felt everything(horrible pain that is) and yelled for him to stop. Here is how our conversation went: him:you shouldn't be feeling anything me: I do! maybe you should wait a little for novacaine take effect him:hmm..gives me another shot and immediately proceeds to pull again. me: wait, it still hurts him: well, its not going to work. You need to come back for another app and we will put you under. Are f*%&$#$ kidding me?!! Me: can you give me more anastetic? him: well, I guess I can numb your whole side instead of just one tooth Gee, you f^$%#% think??? After he numbed the rest of the area, I felt no other pain and it was fine. He immediately took himself off without further ado. I can understand that he wanted to go home and I was his last patient but common.. I was ready to leave but I felt very sick-my heart was racing and I was shaking all over. I couldn't understand what was happening and asked a nurse. She said: "Oh, its because of epinephrine(or however you spell that). This is one of the sideeffects, he uses it along with other anastetic". Thanks for letting me know after the fact, especially since I specifically asked if he was using regular Novocaine shots and I wasn't told that he was using this cocktail that gives you major sideeffects The only I would go to this doctor again, if he is the last dentist on Earth read more

Unfortunately I am still Dr Yamamoto's patient. I have to go back to his office one more time. But it is OK, I like to write the review as I could not believe my experience today. Today I went to his office for 2 weeks check up after I had a surgery. I asked him the question because I had severe asthma symptoms next day after I had a surgery. I have never had an asthma symptoms last 15 years. At first, he told me the pain medication caused my symptom. Dull !! I declined to take the pain medication, so I did not take any !! His explanation was just ???????? I just wanted to know how many anesthetic medication he used when I had a surgery. It took for a long time to do extraction when I had a surgery, He gave me a lot of medication. I needed to know exactly the doses, so I can tell my another doctors to be cautious about it in the future. In stead of answering for my question to me, he opened the door and told his one of assistants the answer, not to me. He just left the room. How rude and arrogant he was !!! I am sad to see this kind of Dr once a while. Also the person ( her name is Lee )who gave me the consultation before surgery had also unfriendly and arrogant attitude. Over all people who work for him are just like him. My general dentist office is not like this. They forget their patients are their customers. A bad customer service from his workers, A bad bedside manner from Dr Yamamoto, I regretted to chose this dentist office although my general dentist referred to me. read more
