This may have something to do with the fact that Troy is a restaurant and not just a take away. They serve Turkish and Mediterranean food, as well as the most refreshing tea in the world! The place is run by really friendly people who take a pride in what they do. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and it's a place where a lot of the locals pledge their allegiance. Business is not as brisk as it used to be a few years ago. There are now too many restaurants and takeaways doing the same thing, providing too much competition along the City Road. Troy was one of the first, and thankfully they haven't lost the passion for what they do. A kebab will set you back about £6.00, but there's enough food for two people, making them really well priced for what you get.

The have takeaway food as you would expect and some interesting items on the menu. I'm always impressed to see the food I ordered be prepared and cooked in the front of house. The doner kebab is exactly like any you'd find down the street but competes well with Adonis kebab takeaway.

The food is fab, prepared using fresh produce; the service is friendly and efficient; and personally I think the prices are reasonable - although another reviewer thought it was expensive, so I guess it depends where you usually eat out (as a guide, starters are between about £3-6, mains range from about £8.50 to £15). They serve up all the classic dishes you'd expect on a Turkish menu. Cold starters include dips, olives, dolma (stuffed vine leaves) and kisir (which is similar to tabbouleh) served with homemade breads. The main dishes are generally served with rice and include classics such as moussaka, meatballs, tasty chicken kofte (one of my favourites), many grilled meat dishes cooked on the charcoal, and choban kavurma (diced lamb cooked with tomato, onion, peppers, and herbs), amongst others. The only part of the meal I think may be potentially overpriced, but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure of the portions, are the desserts - I'd want quite a few pieces of baklava for £4.50. Their wine list includes a couple of Turkish choices alongside French, Spanish, Portuguese, Australian, Chilean, South African and New Zealand wines. The decor is fairly functional rather than creative, but the food and friendly service more than make up for this - and It's great to see this local restaurant quite often busy even on nights earlier in the week when bigger chain restaurants in the city centre are relatively quiet.

It serves great food, that could well be authentic, as claimed, but not having been to Turkey I couldn't concur or deny! All I know is that I really enjoy eating here. I'm a great lover of Mediterranean food, and to my mind there's plenty of dishes on the menu that is Mediterranean in style, including roasted and stuffed vegetables, vine leaves oozing with flavoursome fillings and olive oil, flat breads and delicious fish mains that look pretty good too. Everything is very colourful, suggesting that it's good for you too! There's also things like halloumi. And humus on the menu, which I know to be more Eastern in origin, so I guess we are getting the best of both worlds at Seren! And there's a thing! Seren means star in Welsh, (I only know this because a good friend of mine has called his first born son Seren, which is highly appropriate in this little boys case!) So, they've adapted to being in Wales pretty well too. It's clearly a place of unifying the best of everything! The service is excellent in this warm and friendly establishment, and the prices are more than reasonable for what you get. I'm not overly impressed by the interior, which is clean and serviceable rather than really decorative. The tables are squeezed in, in a uniform manner instead of being arranged more creatively. But this is a busy restaurant with a limited floor space, and so this is understandable. Some effort is made at dressing the tables; linen cloths with paper liners, fresh flowers and colourful napkins. It lacks flair, but the food certainly doesn't! They have a free function room upstairs for special occasions and there's 15% off menu prices for take-aways.

Mediterranean Sweets is owned by the same guy that owns The Continental Delicatessen, a business…read morethat is located a little way down City Road on the opposite side of the street. Whilst The Continental Delicatessen has been around for just over ten years, Mediterranean Sweets is a baby by comparison. It has only been in existence for one and a half years. Although very different in many respects, the two businesses share one key ingredient that allies them on a fundamental level. Both sell products using Halal meat and poultry. The Continental Delicatessen was the first shop on City Road to sell Halal meat and poultry, and so this is unsurprising. Fazal Ali, the owner, laughs when he tells you that there are now about ten shops on City Road selling Halal meat, supporting this information with the commercial consequences of operating in a saturated market... "no-ones making money", he almost guffaws... "we're lucky to be just paying the rent". I guess Fazal has room to laugh. Not only was he the first to meet the demand for Halal meat in the area and so enjoyed exclusivity, and the associated financial rewards of being an innovator, but he also reaps the rewards of not putting all of his eggs in one basket. He is also an electrical engineer, and has worked as one much of his life, only retiring a year or so ago. So! Fazal has made his money and is very comfortable it seems. I'm really glad for him. He's a really lovely guy! Mediterranean Sweets is in direct competition with City Bakery, a shop that opened six years ago, and is directly next door to The Continental Delicatessen. City Bakery is a larger outlet than The Continental Delicatessen and so it made sense for Fazal to invest the time and effort to open Mediterranean Sweets. Everything at Mediterranean Sweets is made from scratch at the shop itself. As you will see in one of the photographs that I've uploaded, they have a large oven at the rear of the retail space where much of the magic takes place. I can't tell you how good the food is here, you are going to have to try it for yourself! Suffice to say that words don't do it justice! I can however tell you that all of the people that work here are lovely. Really smiley, jovial people who are also pretty talented!
