Twelve is a restaurant specialising in vegan food and drinks: the entire menu is free from animal products and all the drinks are free from sulphites. Most of the food is prepared on the premises, i.e. they don't buy in factory-made meat substitutes.
The restaurant itself is decorated in a modern take on art deco, in pinks and greens, with subdued lighting. There is a main eating area at the front and a smaller area at the rear, past the bar area. The rear area has a view into the kitchen if you like to see your food being prepared.
We had the Twelve veggie-burger and a Tofu Teriyaki, followed by the chocolate torte, the dulce-de-leche cheesecake and a mango sorbet. The food was very good (be warned, the veggie burgers are very filling): full of flavour, and easy to forget you were eating vegetarian food. The puddings were especially good (the blood orange sorbet is to die for). We also had two alcohol-free beers and an organic Picpoul de pinet (both very nice). They provided tap water for free.
Service was very friendly and possibly slightly too helpful, in terms of spelling out their vegan credentials in detail. It was also very relaxed - in the sense of being just a little too slow for us. But the overall experience was very enjoyable, and they were certainly doing good business (booking is recommended on Friday and Saturday evenings). The total bill came to £110 for three people, two courses each, with wine/beer. read more
