Yes this is a chain, but it puts American chain burger restaurants to shame!…read more We went for a late lunch and there were maybe 2 or 3 other tables, it somewhat surprising as it is located in (what I think is) the downtown area of Southampton. We were greeted right away and we could sit anywhere. The dining area is large and is intended to reflect the American '50s era diners... I love the British take on Americana, it's so cute! In Milwaukee terms it was definitely "kitschy." The view of the castle wall remnants and new architecture was amazing! My husband and I ordered a cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and chicken tenders to share. WOW! This was most definitely one of the best burgers I have ever eaten!! In England, the meat is locally sourced - and cows are happy. This is most definitely reflected in the quality of the food. Presentation was also perfect. Chicken tenders were also amazing, not greasy and amazing light breading. The house beer, "Byron Beer," was my husband's favorite of all 10 days we spent in England. It was light yet really flavorful! Even a non-beer drinker would like it. Our waitress was so sweet, it was fun talking to her. I wish I knew their burger recipe secret so I could replicate it at home - I really think it has to do with the fresh ingredients :) I would most definitely come here again and would try other locations as well. 5 stars!

New location for the nationwide burger chain. As always solid burgers, good milkshakes, and a nice…read morebeer selection. Plenty of booth seating, service is always good and the location had a nice view of the new Western Esplanade and the walls.

A very large T G I Fridays, serving up decent American classics at OK prices…read more As we walking from the Southampton bus station to our motel, we saw a TGIF on the way. So after we checked in, we decided to do dine-in. It was about 2:30 pm local time, but couldn't really tell what meal of the day it was. All we knew were that we were hungry and very tired, and were very OK not getting a British experience. Once we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and seated. There is a large dining area, and there weren't many people there. We got a 3 part menu, and we focused on the currently running special, which was the choice of an entree and app for a set price. Baxter was our waiter, and he provided us water and took our order after giving us time. We ended up getting a Downtown special (£14.99) and a Uptown special (£19.99). The food came out soon after, and both had been served immediately after being assembled. Apps: both the mozzarella sticks and fully loaded potato skins are classics and were solid. You used to be able to get them from the frozen section at the grocery, and these tasted just like that....which is a good thing. It was also very filling. Entrees: double stack burger; chicken tender burger. Both were fully dressed with fresh vegetables. I really liked the toasted bun that they used for both. Both came with a large amount of OK fries. We got back into the spirit of eating out in the UK where the listed price already includes tax, tipping is encouraged but not always expected, and things are listed in sterling which is about 25% more than the US dollar. Service was good..with the factors mentioned, we thought everything was good value.

No the best Fridays experience and probably wouldn't have gone if it weren't for the eat out offer…read more Service was good. Boneless chick and Seasame chicken were also good. Burgers are just disappointing and lack anything original.

La Fenice is a good Italian restaurant…read more However, it has all the makings of a GREAT Italian restaurant if it could succumb to a few simple tweaks. I went there with friends recently. The vibe of the places squeals 'style', the friendly smiling attention of the servers likewise. Then we we given the menus. The combination of low light, nothing specific illuminating our table and pale grey printing on the pages of the menu meant... well, it meant we couldn't actually see what was on offer! I am not making this up when I say to read it we had to spark up a smartphone and hold it over the pages and then lean in as a combined trio to pore over the contents. So simple suggestion 1:- Quickly reprint the menus using good old fashioned black ink and save your diners the embarrassment and awkwardness of having to squint like a very squinty thing. Simple Suggestion #2:- If you must play music over the speakers, please, please, PLEASE play something that is in keeping with the stylish vibe of the place. I will remember La Fenice's craptastic selection of horrible saxophone solos, cheesy light jazz rubbish, out-of-tune wailers and (at one point an utterly bizarre choice of) German oompah band music FAR longer than I will remember the food I ate there. And the food is good. One of our party had a pizza which looked inviting and was polished off in its 14" entirety whilst the other two opted for the risottos (mushroom or chicken) which came out from the kitchen hot and steaming and very tasty indeed, garnished and accompanied perfectly. The food served to the tables around us all looked terrific and almost everyone seemed to be having a nice time... even if eyebrows did collectively raise when that oompah tune came on. Le Fenice's website - just discovered - states that fish is their speciality. I wish I had known that on the night as its been a long time since I've had a good Italian fish dish. Sadly, the design of the menu meant I never even saw this kind of offering to choose it. Like I said. A good Italian restaurant with all the makings of being a great one. Worth a try if you take along a flashlight/torch and a sturdy pair of music-blocking earplugs!

I love this restuarant! The staff are so friendly and helpful and are able to cater for any special…read moredietary needs. The food is basic Italian, with a couple of English dishes (Steak etc). The price is very reasonable, and the size of the portions is huge! The lunchtime menu is especially good value for money. The atmosphere and decor of Fenice is very clean and modern, it's quite small so on busy nights you might need to book. I reccommend this place 100% it's lovely in every aspect!!
