This may have something to do with the fact that Troy is a restaurant and not just a take away. They serve Turkish and Mediterranean food, as well as the most refreshing tea in the world! The place is run by really friendly people who take a pride in what they do. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and it's a place where a lot of the locals pledge their allegiance. Business is not as brisk as it used to be a few years ago. There are now too many restaurants and takeaways doing the same thing, providing too much competition along the City Road. Troy was one of the first, and thankfully they haven't lost the passion for what they do. A kebab will set you back about £6.00, but there's enough food for two people, making them really well priced for what you get.

The have takeaway food as you would expect and some interesting items on the menu. I'm always impressed to see the food I ordered be prepared and cooked in the front of house. The doner kebab is exactly like any you'd find down the street but competes well with Adonis kebab takeaway.

While this means they must be a small chain, they each feel fairly unique - since the one I ate at in Cardiff has a waterside location very different to this one on Baldwin Street in Bristol. The smell of charred meat is what probably draws a lot of customers in here initially, particularly in the summer when the doors are open onto the street - but for me it was the promise of one of my all-time favourite Turkish dishes: Imam bayildi, which translates as "the imam fainted" and is made with aubergine stuffed with onion, garlic and tomatoes. The cavern-like interior is thoughtfully decorated if a little over-the-top, with mosaics and freezes on the wall depicting scenes from ancient Turkey. The mezze selection is wonderful and tasty, and the main dishes - although a little meat-heavy - have plenty of seafood options and are equally delicious. The most disappointing aspect of Bosphorus is how quiet it often is, and reading other reviews it seems not everyone has enjoyed such a good dining experience as I did, and this could account for their lack of popularity. What's great about Turkish restaurants in general, however, is how passionate the staff tend to be about their country and cuisine. I always end up in conversation with the waiter about Turkey, finding out where they're from and which dishes they were brought up eating. The staff here are no different - very friendly and engaging, and very happy to stop for a chat.

The food is fab, prepared using fresh produce; the service is friendly and efficient; and personally I think the prices are reasonable - although another reviewer thought it was expensive, so I guess it depends where you usually eat out (as a guide, starters are between about £3-6, mains range from about £8.50 to £15). They serve up all the classic dishes you'd expect on a Turkish menu. Cold starters include dips, olives, dolma (stuffed vine leaves) and kisir (which is similar to tabbouleh) served with homemade breads. The main dishes are generally served with rice and include classics such as moussaka, meatballs, tasty chicken kofte (one of my favourites), many grilled meat dishes cooked on the charcoal, and choban kavurma (diced lamb cooked with tomato, onion, peppers, and herbs), amongst others. The only part of the meal I think may be potentially overpriced, but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure of the portions, are the desserts - I'd want quite a few pieces of baklava for £4.50. Their wine list includes a couple of Turkish choices alongside French, Spanish, Portuguese, Australian, Chilean, South African and New Zealand wines. The decor is fairly functional rather than creative, but the food and friendly service more than make up for this - and It's great to see this local restaurant quite often busy even on nights earlier in the week when bigger chain restaurants in the city centre are relatively quiet.

It serves great food, that could well be authentic, as claimed, but not having been to Turkey I couldn't concur or deny! All I know is that I really enjoy eating here. I'm a great lover of Mediterranean food, and to my mind there's plenty of dishes on the menu that is Mediterranean in style, including roasted and stuffed vegetables, vine leaves oozing with flavoursome fillings and olive oil, flat breads and delicious fish mains that look pretty good too. Everything is very colourful, suggesting that it's good for you too! There's also things like halloumi. And humus on the menu, which I know to be more Eastern in origin, so I guess we are getting the best of both worlds at Seren! And there's a thing! Seren means star in Welsh, (I only know this because a good friend of mine has called his first born son Seren, which is highly appropriate in this little boys case!) So, they've adapted to being in Wales pretty well too. It's clearly a place of unifying the best of everything! The service is excellent in this warm and friendly establishment, and the prices are more than reasonable for what you get. I'm not overly impressed by the interior, which is clean and serviceable rather than really decorative. The tables are squeezed in, in a uniform manner instead of being arranged more creatively. But this is a busy restaurant with a limited floor space, and so this is understandable. Some effort is made at dressing the tables; linen cloths with paper liners, fresh flowers and colourful napkins. It lacks flair, but the food certainly doesn't! They have a free function room upstairs for special occasions and there's 15% off menu prices for take-aways.

Nazar is described on a website as: "A Nazar or evil eye stone (Turkish: Nazar Boncugu) is an amulet that is meant to protect against the evil eye." It certainly does that, and that seems to have a side affect, which is amazing food! The food is all very traditional, and you can tell it all comes from very frsh sources (and tasty ones at that). You can also indulge yourself in a good selection of Turkish Wines. 'What on in Bristol' says that: "The restaurant attracts a wide range of customers from families eager to discover Turkish cuisine and to cherish memories of being on holiday in Turkey and enjoy the fine delights." Now, i've never been to Turkey, and from sampling some of the food I certainly want to visit! But, I am a bit worried that my expectation might be to high... We were not disappointed. Being a novice at Turkish cuisine we opted for the set meal for 2 at £18.50 a head. We had some bread and olives to start - bread was fluffy but really nice. Then came a nice selection of cold dishes including dips, Dolmas, Humos and others we could not pronounce. Next came a selection of hot meze, holumi cheese, meatballs and others. Large portions for starters very nice and good value. This was followed by 2 large mixed grills with chicken and lamb kebabs, lamb chop, savoury meat balls stir fry veg, salad and rice ( loads and enough for another person) The waiter was genuinly friendly and explained what everythiing was. Then we had a selection of Turkish deserts strawberries and cream followed by filter or Turkish coffee. We drank the house wine which was very nice too. Everything was freshly cooked and tasted delicious. What a wonderful place to eat - great menu great service very reasonable prices - we are definately coming again. Recommended please try it - its one of the best restaurants we have been to

I actually only tried out this place for delivery because Mezza Luna was unfortunately unavailable (I'm guessing they didn't have any drivers since it was a NYE) but already had my mind set on Mediterranean food. While definitely not as good as my beloved Mezza Luna, Saray is still a decent option to try out. -- Incik (Kleftico) -- £9.00 "Oven baked lamb shank with mixed vegetables, served with mash potatoes." Unfortunately, Saray forgot the mashed potatoes part so I just ate it with some rice ordered with another dish. Still, the lamb was very lovely. I'm a huge fan of lamb shank and Saray definitely does it right! Beautifully tender with lovely sauce; the onions and carrots were succulent and sweet as well. Huge portions and a filling dish well worth the money. -- Kalamar -- £3.50 This is battered calamari, and very delicious (though I may be biased since I'm a huge calamari fan). Just the right texture and taste. Wonderful! -- Hummus & Bread -- £2.00 The hummus was just standard hummus, nothing amazing. But what WAS amazing was the beautiful bread! Huge with toasted sesames on top, it had a fantastic texture! I'm usually not crazy about bread and can't imagine it being really good, but Saray definitely proved me wrong there. Seriously, try the bread. --- Overall I definitely am impressed with Saray. Everything I've tried was very tasty and came at affordable prices.

There's a sunny little terrace out front, with about 8 tables, and it gets a fair bit of sun. Inside it's pretty authentic Turkish decor, open kitchen so you can see the chefs in action. Ezo is located on the busy Gloucester rd so if you want somewhere tranquil this probably isn't the place for you. The food is great I would highly recommend the rolled chicken with feta and spinach, great flavours and cooked to perfection. My partner had the mixed grill which was also delicious this came with lamb, beef patties and grilled chicken with various vegetables, both mains came with rice. Meals are reasonably priced between £10-15 and there's a big selection to chose from. They also do a lunch special, a choice of different wraps served with salad and fries this costs around £7 and in my opinion is an absolute bargain! Drinks are 'ok' good selection of spirits, and bottles of wine as well as a choice of a couple of draught beers and some bottled as well. One down side for me was that if you want to drink wine by the glass you have to drink the house wine, which wasn't great to be honest. As I said before the food does take a while but it's freshly prepared and cooked so the delay is forgiven. It's a place to go to enjoy the atmosphere, company and watch the world go by, I'd highly recommend it and will be visiting again soon myself.
