I ended up eating dinner at Luv Punjab multiple times during my trip to Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks. It's a place of extremes: the food is absolutely fantastic, but the customer service and management need some serious work.
Food is what kept me coming back. Taste is awesome, especially their Daal Makhani. We also ordered the Paneer curry and asked for it to be made extra spicy, and they customized it perfectly. Curry portion sizes are huge - one dish is easily enough to feed three people, however rice portion is really small when you order rice. They also have a great selection of cakes and pastries. Ultimately, the food is the saving grace of this restaurant.
This area needs a major overhaul. The staff seems lost in their own world. When you walk in, no one greets you or seems to care that you've arrived. Getting an answer about table availability is nearly impossible; they mumble, fail to speak clearly even after being asked four times, and offer zero guidance. There is no system for keeping track of who arrived first, and they will just randomly talk to whoever walks up. We actually had to explicitly ask them to write our names down to start a proper waitlist.
The overall ambiance is decent but quite noisy and chaotic, largely because the front door is completely unmanaged. Also, be aware that the low, dhaba-style seating isn't very comfortable for actually eating a meal. Lastly, don't worry too much about their posted hours. The website says dine-in closes at 10 PM, but I consistently saw people dining in until 11 PM or midnight.
Come for the incredible food and good portion sizes, but brace yourself for chaotic, indifferent service. read more
