The lady overcharged me paid almost $150 for my order. I always come here and buy the same order and when the older guy is on the cashier I pay the amount I bring with me which is usually $100 or less. I was disappointed. I only had 9 orders. I guess I paid almost $16 for each order. When they give you a copy of the receipt it just shows the total not the price for each item. My family and I have eaten here for each few months for years always with the best, happy satisfaction from helping a local business, supporting the Filipinno community in central NJ which isn't quite big especially compared to northern NJ, making this small township better with business, and overall enjoying this delicious genre of Asian food. The location is super prime right in the geographical center of the small borough. It's a few minutes walk from the train station, across from the new under construction municipal building, a block from the all-important Quick Chek, and has ample atypically free street parking right out front or at worst on the block save for a few Friday nights. The easy signage and frontage all help to get here easily. I joke that the worse the interior decor the better the food and here the interior decor is mostly inherited from its predecessor, a Chinese take out place, with still unchanged elements from that very many decades ago business but none of that will detract or deter from the excellent happy food coming from the kitchen in the back. The charm is that the humble decor lets the food speak loudly and it absolutely does with the hot and inviting buffet-like line. Its easy-to-spot array of happy dishes, all your favoured Filipino dishes. Also be mindful this layout is pretty much how it is wherever in the world you find your Filipino food. Likewise there're the baked goods on the shelf and table across from the cash register. As for the food itself, I can never get the dishes names well down in my head, for whichever reason, perhaps a lack of attention and labels both, but essentially I am game to try any dish. There's the sour-and-savory pork a flavor combo which is so totally addictive. The same treatment as done for a bamboo shoot-like vegetable is good since there're a great many pork dishes and few vegetable ones, though I could be simply unable to understand which dishes are what. For the kids, these are hearty nutritious entrees so no kids menu need apply. The serving ware is simple plastic carry out type with the shamelessly Kirkland Signature goods otherwise, go Costco! The humble elderly couple who run and likely own it are super charming with many local connections and years being in this location. While you might pass on by if you're just driving through Raritan township, I think Lutong Bahay is a humble little Filipino restaurant where you can stop by for longsilog or tocino-silog any time of the day. I docked down a star because I think the tocino-silog was a little dry but was happy with my longsilog with two over-medium-ish eggs over fried rice. There are some seats there, so I got to enjoy my meal while in the shop. Remember to ask for vinegar to enjoy with your meal! Overall, it helped make me feel a little piece of home, being surrounded by NJ locals who speak Tagalog and also have Filipino network TV playing in the background. I used to order tapsilog here often, until I was served cold rice and meat one time too many and decided to take some time away and give more business to the competition around the corner. Visited for breakfast today for the first time in months hoping for a better experience. I ordered the tapsilog combo once again. I was told there would be a few minute wait, as the eggs for the combo were not prepared..no problem. Then I was informed that they were out of garlic rice. I checked my watch and noticed it was before 9am. I was told I would be served white rice. Okay, fine. Finally, it came to plating the meat: I was served literally 4 pieces of meat from the tray, which was FULL of meat. I would say I was served less than half the portion of l what it would typically be served here in the past. The older gentleman who served me knew it was a poor portion of meat too, as he looked at me as he served it and said "That's it, okay?"- as if he wanted my approval to justify serving me a small portion. Not only that, but the price on a tapsilog combo has gone up several dollars as well. I payed $11 for a can of soda, a plate of white rice, 2 fried eggs and an infant size handful of tapsilog. And their options include 4 options of fish, some other options with shrimp, etc. these aren't exactly cheap protein options. Service was super friendly. A small Filipino takeout place (but you can dine in too). A to go container for $10 includes rice and a choice of 2 mains. The portion/meat size was a little lacking, but what can you expect for $10 nowadays. The rice was warm, but I didn't notice whether the mains were cold or not. There are four Filipino places near where I live, and Lutong Bahay is my second favorite. My favorite place in Flemington wins out in flavor, but this place has more selection and gives out larger portions. Takeout is $6.50 for rice and two choices. The first time I came, I tried their beef skewer and this pork stew with carrots and other vegetables. The beef skewer was tough, but had great flavor. The pork stew was likewise tasty. The second time I tried the longanisa and chicken curry. It looks like they coat the longanisa in this sweet sauce, but it still tastes like normal delicious longanisa. The chicken curry tastes like Thai green curry, but less sweet. Their whole roasted eggplant was a bit bland, but I liked the texture of it. I've also tried a couple of the desserts and snacks they sell. We got the turon once thinking they were regular lumpia. To our surprise there were plantains inside instead. After getting over the initial shock, I quite liked it. Their sweets come from this place called Berkeley Bakery. I think I like the sweets, especially the hopia baboy, from Christine's Bakery better (which the one in Flemington sells), but these were still good. Make sure you get the purple yam sticky rice ball. It's incredibly delicious and not too sweet. I liked the texture of it because it's stickier than a regular rice ball, but not as sticky as a rice cake. They get the kutsinta from two different bakeries. This was my first time having kutsinta. It tastes like a coconut rice cake with shredded coconut on top. Their cassava cake is also absolutely delicious. It somehow still remains soft even when refrigerated. Everything is really cheap. It was approximately, $15 for the purple yam rice ball, kutsinta, hopia baboy, roasted eggplant, and rice combo with 2 sides. This place is extremely close to the Raritan train station, so I can go here whenever I get off the train and go to the one in Flemington the next day. I'll never quite understand why a lot of things just aren't hot but that seems to be the case for most of the Filipino restaurants I go. The "silog" breakfast entrees for $7.50 are awesome. A huge helping of rice, a choice of meat, and two eggs will hold you down all day. I tried the pork bbq which was okay but not the best I've had. The lumpia was cold and wasn't crispy so I was a bit sad about that. The lechon was a bit dry and also just a room temp. The best thing I had was definitely the turon dessert. The dinuguan lacked a little flavor which surprised me a little while the adobo was (as expected) on the greasy side. But....big but here....the temperature of both were just warm and not hot. The rice was the hottest thing on the plate. Honestly, that bothered me more than anything else. If the food is sitting in dishes over hot water, they should be hot and not just warm. We knew they were going to mess it up bec the guy taking the order was rushing while taking the order then when we called a day before he didn't get the food correctly and time of pick up, he said 4pm instead of 1. Love that we found this hole in the wall place thanks to one of my coworkers who brought their lumpia to work for potluck. We had to come to get more lumpia.
