Place is not updated but serves its purpose. It feels like a "carenderia" in the Philippines. Tables could seat 4. Has some bar tables to dine to. They got combo for 2 viands and a rice. Street parking. I didn't see any high chair. Filipino food tastes good here and good quantity serving. Would recommend to try for Filipino food. I see comments that the owner/staff is not pleasant. I think it is because he has some medical issues going on. I heard him talking about his medical concerns to a friend. See images for reference read more

My family and I have eaten here for each few months for years always with the best, happy satisfaction from helping a local business, supporting the Filipinno community in central NJ which isn't quite big especially compared to northern NJ, making this small township better with business, and overall enjoying this delicious genre of Asian food. The location is super prime right in the geographical center of the small borough. It's a few minutes walk from the train station, across from the new under construction municipal building, a block from the all-important Quick Chek, and has ample atypically free street parking right out front or at worst on the block save for a few Friday nights. The easy signage and frontage all help to get here easily. I joke that the worse the interior decor the better the food and here the interior decor is mostly inherited from its predecessor, a Chinese take out place, with still unchanged elements from that very many decades ago business but none of that will detract or deter from the excellent happy food coming from the kitchen in the back. The charm is that the humble decor lets the food speak loudly and it absolutely does with the hot and inviting buffet-like line. Its easy-to-spot array of happy dishes, all your favoured Filipino dishes. Also be mindful this layout is pretty much how it is wherever in the world you find your Filipino food. Likewise there're the baked goods on the shelf and table across from the cash register. As for the food itself, I can never get the dishes names well down in my head, for whichever reason, perhaps a lack of attention and labels both, but essentially I am game to try any dish. There's the sour-and-savory pork a flavor combo which is so totally addictive. The same treatment as done for a bamboo shoot-like vegetable is good since there're a great many pork dishes and few vegetable ones, though I could be simply unable to understand which dishes are what. For the kids, these are hearty nutritious entrees so no kids menu need apply. The serving ware is simple plastic carry out type with the shamelessly Kirkland Signature goods otherwise, go Costco! The humble elderly couple who run and likely own it are super charming with many local connections and years being in this location. I am a big fan of so many area Filipino ones, the nearest two being in Metuchen and Flemington, so I am so very happy Lutong continues serving happiness! read more

The lady overcharged me paid almost $150 for my order. I always come here and buy the same order and when the older guy is on the cashier I pay the amount I bring with me which is usually $100 or less. I was disappointed. I only had 9 orders. I guess I paid almost $16 for each order. When they give you a copy of the receipt it just shows the total not the price for each item. I come here for the price but I won't be coming back for a while. read more

Our Favorite is pretty much everything lol- they have a very good food and we've been ordering it since 2019 even now is like an hour away from us we're still ordering from them - it's very worth to travel. read more

While you might pass on by if you're just driving through Raritan township, I think Lutong Bahay is a humble little Filipino restaurant where you can stop by for longsilog or tocino-silog any time of the day. I docked down a star because I think the tocino-silog was a little dry but was happy with my longsilog with two over-medium-ish eggs over fried rice. There are some seats there, so I got to enjoy my meal while in the shop. Remember to ask for vinegar to enjoy with your meal! Overall, it helped make me feel a little piece of home, being surrounded by NJ locals who speak Tagalog and also have Filipino network TV playing in the background. I wouldn't mind returning. read more

amazing! could never go wrong with the crispy pata. amazing staff, wonderful ambiance. must try fosho!!

Good food. Love the turon, pork sisig and crispy pata. Good service. Helpful and nice people. Been buying food there for years especially when christmas and new year's eve. read more

Yoooooo. Im just visiting the area but this was an AMAZING find. It's a cafeteria style establishment; So it's quick and easy. It is WAY cheap. 7.50$ for rice and two entree options (tax already included O.O). To put that in perspective, that's cheaper than Panda Express! As a small mom and pop shop, that's amazing. And their options include 4 options of fish, some other options with shrimp, etc. these aren't exactly cheap protein options. Service was super friendly. I was asking many questions as it was my first time there and I am not too familiar with Filipino dishes. Flavor wise, I've had better, however, still very homely, comforting, and satisfying. There's a niche for quick lunches and For that price, I highly recommend you come by. I know I'll be back. read more

Lutong Bahay - a meal in a styrofoam container - Filipino Near Me - Raritan, New Jersey

I used to order tapsilog here often, until I was served cold rice and meat one time too many and decided to take some time away and give more business to the competition around the corner. Visited for breakfast today for the first time in months hoping for a better experience. I ordered the tapsilog combo once again. I was told there would be a few minute wait, as the eggs for the combo were not prepared..no problem. Then I was informed that they were out of garlic rice. I checked my watch and noticed it was before 9am. I was told I would be served white rice. Okay, fine. Finally, it came to plating the meat: I was served literally 4 pieces of meat from the tray, which was FULL of meat. I would say I was served less than half the portion of l what it would typically be served here in the past. The older gentleman who served me knew it was a poor portion of meat too, as he looked at me as he served it and said "That's it, okay?"- as if he wanted my approval to justify serving me a small portion. Not only that, but the price on a tapsilog combo has gone up several dollars as well. I payed $11 for a can of soda, a plate of white rice, 2 fried eggs and an infant size handful of tapsilog. Very disappointed- I only gave it 2 stars because I enjoyed the 2 forkfuls of meat I had on my plate. I will not be returning. read more

Lutong Bahay - Tapsilog - Filipino Near Me - Raritan, New Jersey

This place doesn't look much when you walk or drive past, but I was craving for Filipino food and thought I'd give this restaurant a try. It's a small place, friendly people, you can eat inside, not a lot of people, but it was nice to enjoy our food quietly and felt no rush to finish. The food are displayed, you pick 2 entrees with choice of white rice or garlic flavored fried rice. We also had to order some lumpia and coconut juice! They have fish too in case that's what you like. The downside mainly for me was their bathroom, it was stinky. Just being honest. If you gotta go, you gotta go! Just hold your breath in We plan to visit again esp with other businesses nearby... the market and dessert shop!! read more

A small Filipino takeout place (but you can dine in too). A to go container for $10 includes rice and a choice of 2 mains. The portion/meat size was a little lacking, but what can you expect for $10 nowadays. The rice was warm, but I didn't notice whether the mains were cold or not. I'm not Filipino so I don't know what we got but, it was chicken in a yellowish-greenish sauce and also fish in a sour soup. It was a tasty meal that tasted as if I brought it from my moms house. I also wanted to get lumpia Shanghai but they had run out by that time. read more

There are four Filipino places near where I live, and Lutong Bahay is my second favorite. My favorite place in Flemington wins out in flavor, but this place has more selection and gives out larger portions. Takeout is $6.50 for rice and two choices. The first time I came, I tried their beef skewer and this pork stew with carrots and other vegetables. The beef skewer was tough, but had great flavor. The pork stew was likewise tasty. The second time I tried the longanisa and chicken curry. It looks like they coat the longanisa in this sweet sauce, but it still tastes like normal delicious longanisa. The chicken curry tastes like Thai green curry, but less sweet. Their whole roasted eggplant was a bit bland, but I liked the texture of it. I've also tried a couple of the desserts and snacks they sell. We got the turon once thinking they were regular lumpia. To our surprise there were plantains inside instead. After getting over the initial shock, I quite liked it. Their sweets come from this place called Berkeley Bakery. I think I like the sweets, especially the hopia baboy, from Christine's Bakery better (which the one in Flemington sells), but these were still good. Make sure you get the purple yam sticky rice ball. It's incredibly delicious and not too sweet. I liked the texture of it because it's stickier than a regular rice ball, but not as sticky as a rice cake. They get the kutsinta from two different bakeries. This was my first time having kutsinta. It tastes like a coconut rice cake with shredded coconut on top. Their cassava cake is also absolutely delicious. It somehow still remains soft even when refrigerated. Everything is really cheap. It was approximately, $15 for the purple yam rice ball, kutsinta, hopia baboy, roasted eggplant, and rice combo with 2 sides. This place is extremely close to the Raritan train station, so I can go here whenever I get off the train and go to the one in Flemington the next day. Unfortunately, they didn't have laing the day I went, but the person helping us said the sometimes have it on Sundays. read more

As for cafeteria style Filipino restaurants go this place is standard. I'll never quite understand why a lot of things just aren't hot but that seems to be the case for most of the Filipino restaurants I go. The "silog" breakfast entrees for $7.50 are awesome. A huge helping of rice, a choice of meat, and two eggs will hold you down all day. I tried the pork bbq which was okay but not the best I've had. The lumpia was cold and wasn't crispy so I was a bit sad about that. The lechon was a bit dry and also just a room temp. The best thing I had was definitely the turon dessert. Super sweet and crunchy which I definitely enjoyed. I'd come back again for a quick breakfast. read more

Quick and easy cafeteria style Filipino food- very yummy and good sized portions! Just like grandma's cooking. I just wished they had kare kare when we went! read more

Ordered tapsilog and meat combo. Was ok. I got 4 sides by recommendation, but 3 of them tasted the same. All meat, marinated in some sweet sauce. Only difference was how sweet. There was a beef stew that was great. Price was cheap too but personally I'm not a big fan of rice and this place gives like 70% rice as part of combo. read more

This is a very small cafeteria style ma and pop shop in raritan. Great for breakfast and lunch. The price for rice platter and two sides is 7.50, and additional side will be a dollar extra. My I order the lechon, pork terikyaki, and a fried egg, while my friend order the braise pork, one other meat dish, and a fried egg. Personally I very much enjoyed my freind's braised pork and vice versa with my friend who enjoyed my lechon. We were very satified with the meals we had here and will be coming back. read more

Crispy pata was the best! Haven't had it in a while and glad I ordered it here. It was meaty and skin was crispy. Perfect.

Decided to try this place out to give my husband his Filipino food fix since I hadn't really been cooking any at home. It's def a hole in the wall place and I figured "why not?" I ordered a combo that came with dinuguan and adobo and rice. The texture of both were ok. The dinuguan lacked a little flavor which surprised me a little while the adobo was (as expected) on the greasy side. But....big but here....the temperature of both were just warm and not hot. The rice was the hottest thing on the plate. Honestly, that bothered me more than anything else. If the food is sitting in dishes over hot water, they should be hot and not just warm. I probably should've asked to have it heated up in the microwave at that point. Too late though....the hungry husband inhaled his food hahaha. Oh well. He agreed with my thoughts and would rather hit up a few other places for flip food. read more

Went there with my husband and ordered the crispy pork. The second time my husband went there the guy with red shirt was talking to one of the employee (or fam member) there. And WHAT DO YOU KNOW!!! The price increased to $14.00 . My husband was talking in a different language so they took advantage. What a freaking RIP OFF.. there are better places to go to and price stays the same. Tried calling to plan for large retirement party. This was going to be big! Asked for owner, chef or manager. Answer: "Owner not here good bye.". I called back 4 more times trying to explain this was for a large catering order. And I need help. Click. Over and over. Nobody speaks English... customer service nonexistent. Pure rudeness. Left a detailed voicemail.... no reply. Crickets. This place must me doing very well to turn away a potential contract order in the thousands of dollars. Good luck to them. I will NEVER so much as order a cracker from these people... much less a catering order of any size. Total waste of time. Business is not worthy of any serious planning for any event. Don't even waste your time... there are other Philpino restaurants more worthy. read more

If you are looking for flavorful filipino food, this is a hidden gem. The restaurant is small and needs updating, so don't go there for the ambiance -- but the lunch options are delicious. I don't know the names of the dishes I tried since there are no signs or menu posted, but the pork dish with peppers was very tasty, and the beef with onions also was very good. I will definitely be back soon! read more

Ordered pusit, langka, adobo, lechon and bibingka. It's really just a tiny cafeteria. The food is so so. Langka is good and spicy, the adobo is oily as I expected and the pusit is itchier and fishier than I thought it would. Pinoy outside food is something you don't eat everyday if you do not want an early grave. It's good food but it will kill you. Drank coca cola in a can. No ice available. This place is cleaner than most fil food places. They take american express. read more

We order the 12 trays and what a mess. We knew they were going to mess it up bec the guy taking the order was rushing while taking the order then when we called a day before he didn't get the food correctly and time of pick up, he said 4pm instead of 1. Day of pickup and they still got the food wrong but we didn't have a choice and they still ask for full payment. Sauces were a premium, bagoong was like 2 spoons for a tray of kare kare. What's good was the food was ready bec last time we ordered 12 trays, we had to wait 40 mins in the store before all the food were ready. Never again, I'll try other places from hereon. I can't get frustrated on such a good occasion. This people don't care at all. read more

I came here with my girlfriend on a whim after some Black Friday shopping. We were greeted right away with a warm smile by the owner! I got a combo; a plate of two entrees with a generous portion of rice. There was a wide array of Filipino comfort food, but I got the curry chicken and bitter melon soup. Everything was seasoned perfectly; maybe even better than my own Lola's cooking! They also had baked goods like boxes of puto and bags of pandesal for individual sale. I would definitely drive over an hour just to eat here again! read more

Lutong bahay has some seriously amazing filipino food! Growing up filipino, I've always struggled to find a Filipino restaurant that had food that tasted as good as what my lolo and Lola would make. WE OUT HERE!!!! Customer service was A1 sauce. They made us custom made vinegar and it was fire. We had the tapsilog and I swear it's better than anything The Philippines have. The seating was nice and lighting was good. There was a variety of food to choose from, but my choice always has to be the Tapsilog. My recommendations are "sisig", "crispy pata", and the magical fried rice. My only gripe is that they don't do Uber eats or any app based delivery service. Come on guys it's 2k20. Love that we found this hole in the wall place thanks to one of my coworkers who brought their lumpia to work for potluck. We had to come to get more lumpia. It's so fresh, crispy on the outside without the meat being dry or over fried on the inside. It's by far the best lumpia we've ever had. Our daughter devoured it. This is a small, decent-looking filipino restaurant. More like a cafeteria, to be precise. But, their foods are decent. Not the top notch but enough to satisfy me. Especially, it's cheap.
