One of Alief's most recognizable food carts, Lupita's sits inside of a gas station parking lot serving one of life's tastiest things: Mexican style corn. Seeing as I've been coming here a few years, I'm genuinely surprised their following isn't more substantial, so here's hoping my review can change some of that.
"Roasted Corn" only really applies to the elote, which is limited in quantity. They often will run out of it by early afternoon, leaving a majority of folks to enjoy the esquite (which sits in a slow cooker) instead. Considering all the fixins that go into it -- chili powder, cotija cheese, lime, a dab of butter, a huge dollop of mayo, and Mexican crema -- it is the consummate snack for roughly $3-5 depending on cup size.
I don't consider their tacos to be a strong selling point, but they're available for whomever wants it. The difference with other taqueria trucks / carts is that they grill their meats on site and often times will have a little more variety than what Lupita offers. I have a strong suspicion they're cooked way ahead of time or in some other location, but I could be wrong. I haven't yet tried the other offerings, which include tortas, enchiladas, quesadillas, hot dogs, and the ever elusive tamales.
One other item they make that folks sleep on is a raspado, which is essentially Mexican shaved ice. Their version is usually a mix of sweet and spicy, and is really nice during hot summer days.
The woman who is normally in the cart is very nice. I've always paid cash here and parking is available, usually next to the cart. They're only open from lunch till the evening and I'll only stop by if I see the red pickup truck parked next to it. Try to muster as much Spanish as possible, since English is limited here. read more
