Lupe's is a nice little spot hidden in the Lincoln Square shopping center. Once you're inside, it's much bigger than it looks. They have really good salsas and I finally tried their queso! So good. I've had their margaritas a couple of times, consistently good. I really like their food too. Only have been during weekday lunch and only got the soft cheese tacos which are delicious and they have great service. Today invited a couple to go there for Sunday lunch after church and the soft cheese tacos weren't available except for lunch. Got there and just sit down and they brought drinks and chips, waited and waited for waitress to take our order by time she did we were about out of chips we got totally out my time I could get her attention for more. The food came and my wife and I had to use a knife to cut our enchiladas they were so tough. We did not finish them and it took forever to get her attention for a check. Will not return. read more

I get it. There has been a pandemic. But that excuse for poor customer service is wearing thin with me. Walked in the door at 12:45p and there was a line. After a bit, the gentleman at the beginning of the line went into the restaurant to try and find somebody. Turns out, no had been greeted. The restaurant was only about 2/3 full and there was plenty of staff around (moving slowly) with the hostess moving the slowest. Waited for nearly 10 minutes before a server greeted me. She took order and disappeared for the next TWENTY MINUTES PLUS! Didn't check beverage or chips and salsa all of which were empty. Finally food arrives. I ask for refills on everything. She filled my water glass then disappears again for another 10 minutes before bringing more chips and salsa The food was good. My point is - If you are like me you have been tipping extra the last two years even when service wasn't that great as a show of appreciation for those willing to work during more difficult times. I think it's time we as consumers start pushing back and insist and a reasonable level of service before we shell out the tip. read more

The place was spotless. One of the cleanest restaurants I've been to lately. Server wore mask and gloves. This was our first time here...food was excellent. I got the fajita enchiladas...they were awesome. Got cheese enchiladas and asked for onion. Very tasty. But the real star was the queso dip...that made the meal! This place is good. I like the atmosphere. Food is not bad. I would say about average. Our server was very nice, though service was a little slow. It took about 45 minutes for our food to come out though there were only about 3 other tables there at the time. Prices are a little high for what it is. I did however really enjoy their margaritas. We used to go to Lupe's all the time, but probably won't anymore. Prices have skyrocketed and service is so slow. Our waiter tried, but so short staffed. I had a plate of nachos- $16. Went through 2 small bowls of salsa with chips and first part of meal and asked for more salsa. I was told that it would be. $3.99 charge for additional salsa. He apologized and said new management.... I'm out. Bye Lupe's. It was good food for many many years, but won't pay for extra salsa at a Mexican food restaurant. The brisket tasted weird and kind of old idk. Like it completely ruined my experience after starting off the meal so well. My sister was thrilled to find this location. She had been to another location in the H-E-B area and loved it. We were seated quickly, ordered, and got our food in under 15 minutes. The black bean dip was just delicious! I could eat this all damn day. I would put it on crackers, toast, tortillas... etc. The salsa was good, had a nice kick to it. I really appreciated how the wait staff only came around a few times. It wasn't very busy for Saturday afternoon. They didn't hover, and i didn't have to search them out. I got chicken enchiladas, and my sister got the carne asada. She ate the entire plate and smiled the entire time! My enchiladas were good, the tortillas were a bit tough. Lupe's is one of those restaurants I forget about from time to time because of it's location. It is on of the only non-chain restaurants in the Lincoln Square area and I feel like I always avoid that because of Ranger or Cowboy traffic. However, this is a decent spot. They have a nice patio area and even have booth seating outside which is rare. I really love Lupe's interior seating and bar area. The booths can help you feel really intimate if you are on a date, but they also can easily accommodate larger groups as well because they have really huge tables. Food wise is where my three stars comes in. They have some things on the menu that are stellar and then things that are so-so. I love their chips and salsa, but I'm not impressed with their queso. It is a big runny and doesn't have much flavor to me. Maybe their ground beef one is better? Not sure. My last visit here I got the Taco Salad with shredded chicken and it was great! Everything was so incredibly fresh and the portion is so large! They also give you almost half an avocado within the shell as well and they get extra points for that since it doesn't cost extra. I tend to get their house dressing. It reminds me of a light Italian dressing, but on the spicy side. My boyfriend got the huevos con chorizo and I was sadly unimpressed. It just didn't taste well seasoned, but he still ate all of it and enjoyed it for what it was. He was thankful it comes with a good portion of potatoes on the side and it also comes with some lettuce, tomato, and a good portion of avocado. They don't post any of their drink prices on their cocktail menu and that just always bugs me. I feel so awkward having to ask what the prices are so I end up just sticking to water. They have some kind of special each day of the week and really good lunch prices so I think you should keep your eye of for the specials or hit this up during lunch! Just finished eating here. We're from out of town and picked Line's from around me. There was a short 20 minute wait even though there were empty tables. It's sad that everyone needs help. With that said our waiter Glenn was fantastic! Thank you Glenn. The food came out quickly and was very good. Chili con queso, chips, pico, black beans, salsa and chips were great. Had to update my review. Went to try to have dinner there tonight with my wife and kids and two friends and we left hungry. I'll tell you why. When a couple of friends from Hawaii came into town, they wanted to eat some good Tex Mex food. I suggested we go to Lupes. BIG MISTAKE!!!! When our party of 6 got there, we were seated immediately. The place looked at the most, 1/4 full. There was even a few servers standing at the front door talking to hosts when we had arrived. We were sat in the bar area even though we had three kids under the age of 8. They brought out the chips and bean dip but it took about 10 min to have our drink order taken. THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A WARNING SIGN!!!!!!!!!!! So we're sitting there with our empty bowls of chips and empty beverage glasses as we're waiting for food to come. And it never did. After about 15-20 minutes of waiting, one of our party approaches our server and asks him about our food. THE SERVER TELLS HIM "WE'RE BUSY".... We seriously waited another 10 minutes and decided to leave! Our food still never came! And to top it off, we couldn't find a manager! Asked for one and he never came to our table. As we were leaving, we passed another couple and I casually mentioned to them about the service and they said they had been waiting a long time as well! Food is decent. Service wasn't horrible, but was pretty bad. We arrived around 8pm on a weekend. The restaurant wasn't busy with plenty of empty tables. We were seated and our server took our order very quickly. A few minutes later, our server informs us that the restaurant is out of rice (our entrees were supposed to come with rice and beans). He listed substitutions, but informed us that some of them would be an extra charge. We settle on french fries and as our server brings us our plates, he drops a few french fries on the ground. I noticed we didn't get beans and when I asked our server about it, he informed us that both rice and beans were being substituted for the french fries, which he did not inform us about. No big deal, but it's hard to enjoy enchiladas with french fries. read more

I'm barely giving two stars and it's because they have decent salsa. I have had multiple less than good experiences here and this is the 3rd time I've had bad food, bad service and bad atmosphere. I came in right after opening time at around 11:20am... sat at the bar - where there was no bartender or waiter- waited for about 10 min before I got waited on.. I ordered fajita enchiladas with chicken and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. It took about 20 minutes for the food to come out and when it did I could only really eat the rice. The chicken was on top of the enchiladas and the enchiladas were full of really greasy cheese. The corn tortillas they used seemed almost stale and it was hard to cut them. There was so much grease that it was pooling on the side of the plate. I won't be returning. read more

Came in with my boyfriend on a Friday night at 9pm, we chose this place because we wanted good tex mex and the hours online say open till 10:30. I double checked for hours on the door once we got there but didn't see any. The young male host paused to make a gesture of checking his watch, so we asked him when they closed. He said 10, and we mentioned the online hours. "Oh ya.. we've called Google but they won't change it" Um ok? So we asked him if we should leave. "I mean the kitchen is open till 9:45". Maybe I'm being harsh but that really gave our experience a bad start. On with the good... Bean dip that comes with chips & salsa is yummy. I enjoyed my shrimp enchiladas. Our server was attentive. The patio looks inviting for a nice day. If your looking for a Friday night restaurant in Arlington, this ain't it. Good food, great service but dang, the price tag! Hubby and I went for lunch and split the Lupe's queso, and he ordered the two enchilada lunch special and I got lunch fajitas. I got a small swirl and he ordered the large house marg and it was $48 before gratuity! Dang! So, food ....queso came in a little cup with some ground beef on top, all piping hot and a side of pico. Great flavor mix, but impossible to combine more than a few cubes of tomato from the pico, cuz the bowl was so full! My hubby got two chicken enchiladas, with sour cream sauce and one with mole. He got the rice and beans and ate the whole thing! Score! I ordered the lunch combo fajitas, and that came with double-rice (because I hate beans), pico, sour cream guacamole and flour tortillas. The portion was (I hope) much smaller than the dinner size because I made one chicken fajita in a tortilla and it was almost gone. I guess it's enough meat (beef and chicken) for two fajitas ifyou put some of each on the tortilla? Our waiter was super nice, very attentive but dang, I am still stunned at the price point! Lupe's has been a mainstay in my family for years, and consistently offers simple but classic Tex-Mex fare. On a recent visit home, we decided to spend an early Saturday evening on their patio. Although we were a relatively large group, we were seated quickly on their covered patio. Located in a busy strip mall, the view isn't all too stunning but it's nice enough and typical of this part of the Metroplex. Of course, we all started with various types of margarita. I have long been a fan of their coronarita, my favorite Texas guilty pleasure, and she got the jalapeño margarita. Their chips and salsa are great, and are served alongside a black bean dip, which I find unusual in Texas but a nice addition. She ordered the classic cheese enchiladas, and I went with the chile relleno, and with a side of their mojo de ajo sauce. Back in my pescatarian days, I absolutely loved ordering from Lupe's relatively extensive mariscos menu (usually a rarity in a Tex-Mex spot), as they offer a variety of deliciously grilled fish with perfectly seasoned sauces and vinaigrettes, with their mojo de ajo and cilantro sauces always being the best. Now that I am vegetarian, I had to forego this, but got the sauce on the side, which made a nice, vibrant accompaniment to my meal. Although both of our meals on this visit were decent, they weren't great and we were a bit disappointed. There are certainly better rellenos and enchiladas at the hundreds of other Tex-Mex spots around DFW. Additionally, the service was almost painfully slow at times, but I don't knock them given the slow post-COVID bounce back at most restaurants. Although I wasn't too impressed by this visit, my past history with Lupe's, not to mention their margs, chips, and seafood options, merit a return visit for this Arlington classic. read more

Tried this place out since we drive by it all the time after we eat somewhere and say "hey we should try this out!" We went on a Friday night. Easy to get in and get a table for 2. Immediately received chips, salsa and the yelp-famous warm bean dip (all the reviews are talking about it & for good reason). Chips were good and crispy. Fresh. Salsa had just a little kick to it. Bean dip was...as good as everyone is saying!! Our server came and took our drink order. We started to chow down on the chips & dip (addicting and couldn't stop eating them!!!!!). I ordered Christian's Plate and my husband ordered the Colleyville Tacos (beef). I decided on my plate for the variety & try what they had. It came with a beef crunchy taco, guacamole tostada, cheese taco and cheese enchilada. Of course rice and beans. The meat in the crunchy taco was flavored so well. (I added some bean dip and salsa to it too!) My husband's plate came with 3 fajita beef soft tacos on corn tortillas along with rice & beans & a small salad with slices of avocado. He said the tacos had a very good flavor. He didn't miss a bite! I also enjoyed a Michelada. YUM! We did have too much chips and dips. We should have listened to all the warnings on yelp about that. Very good dinner. They have daily specials and plenty of plates and meals to choose from on the menu. I wish the service was a little better. I think our server may have been tired or had too many tables. He wasn't as attentive with refilling tea and water, or checking on us in general. He was just not too happy. I did observe him at a table with children and they were showing him their menu games they were playing. He told them "good job" and other praises. (I think kids have the opportunity for dessert if they play games. That's just the way it looked.) Prior to going to the restaurant I read yelp reviews saying service was as good as food...so I was anticipating that...I like good service at restaurants! Disappointing. The only thing I actually liked was the (complimentary) bean dip and the (extra charge!) rice... the three tostada I got, the tostada didn't taste good at all. I ended up putting all the toppings from that into my rice. I asked for no cheese on one, assuming they'd put something else (like guac or beans) but the kitchen sent out one plain tostada. Price is kinda crazy for what you get as well. My server was at least very friendly and that aspect I have no complaint. The hostess(es) needs work. I come in and you automatically pick up the phone, after saying hi to me, and proceed to talk on the phone.... very unprofessional. Another lady/hostess came by and just stood there staring. With so many restaurants in Arlington, even if you're really close to here, I would go elsewhere. Patio area is nice but I would recommend a periodic wipe down since it gets dusty. read more

When we got here about 12:30 there wasn't a host on duty, and a crowd of 5-6 people were just kind of standing around. I flagged down the manager from the bar area and we were seated. Not very busy considering what a pain in the ass it is to park on that side of Lincoln Square. I ordered a beer and expected a pint. Instead, I got a tankard goblet thingie for $5.50. The food was good. I had huevos Mexicana which came with a huge mimosa for $10. Allison got a enchilada and taco platter for the same price with rice and beans. It came on 2 plates and we filled two boxes of leftovers. I was expecting homemade tortillas for whatever reason - Lupe's has a vibe that you'd think everything is scratch - and they buy theirs from La Spiga or something. Not bad but at $10 a plate, I want them made in house. Service was fine - a lady named Victoria waited on us. Came here for a retirement party. We had RSVP'ed and when we came in the hostess had a bit of a attitude. Our table was not ready. There was 12 of us in our party. The black bean dip that comes with the chips is really good. I asked for tortillas to go with the queso and black bean dip. It didn't come out so I asked the waiter again and he seemed a bit overwhelmed with our big party. I ordered the cheese enchiladas. They were okay. Seems like it was lacking some seasoning. Mexico City Tacos $13.99 (was) $15.79 (now) I came in tonight, somewhat disappointed. I always get the Mexico City tacos, by always I mean I've had them at least 10 times within the last year or two. I'm one of those people that find something they like and get the same thing every time, with the occasional change up by getting something new. Tonight I stuck with what I knew, because I noticed the prices went up! I'm not sure why I'm sure it has something to do with inflation or perhaps there are just wanting to make a little bit higher margins. At the end of the day the food has not really changed so perhaps it's their costs. They ran out of black bean dip tonight. They also brought me my Mexico City tacos without the signature spicy sauce. They literally tasted like chicken fajita tacos, which weren't bad, I just wanted the spicy kick of their signature Mexico City tacos. My companions had the tacos and the chimichanga and both were better than my dish, but again were no better than your local chain Mexican but double the price. One of the other things was the atmosphere. While not bad, it was LOUD. You could hear everything happening, and it seemed like many of the waiters didn't know when to stop bringing drinks because there was more than one drunk individual in the restaurant. But they would give me one more bag at no charge this time only. Really poor service. We had to go up 2 times to the hostess to get a server after once asking the chips guy to ask about our waiter or lack there of. We spent 1 1/2 hours there due to wait time.
