*Restarting Timer on Vegan Powers*
My wife and I were out to do a baby raccoon pickup for Hope For Wildlife, but needed to tuck in somewhere and wait for the details to come in, so we decided to look for a place to grab a quick meal. While driving slowly through Shelburne we spied Luong's Restaurant (http://www.google.com/#q=luong+restaurant+shelburne+NS), which advertises vegetarian options right on the window and so seemed like a good bet. We were promptly seated, and our server assured us that they have meat and dairy free options right on the menu, and when questioned about whether the sauces could be made without fish sauce she assured us that the dressing for their meals were all made on site and were fish free. Delighted, we perused the menu, ordered a couple of likely items, and decided on a spring roll each to boot.
No sooner had we tucked in to our pads to check our mail and such than our food arrived - such fast service! Giddy with what a great find this place is, we dug in to our meal, each starting in our spring rolls. I bit in and was surprised to find it full of marinated mushroo -- wait, what? No... Full of _beef_. Dead cow. Carcass. *_Fail_*.
We both realized the truth at the same time, both having swallowed a mouth full of it. After waiting for a several minutes for our server to show her face again in the mostly empty restaurant, my wife decided to be more proactive, and so took both of the rolls up the front desk. After hearing her say that we were served meat, the server told her that _"if you wanted vegetarian spring rolls, you needed to order them from the vegetarian menu."_ No joke. From _her_ perspective, our having clearly identified ourselves as vegan, our having questioned her about the sauces, and our having expressed our delight before ordering about the meat free options was not sufficient. No - it's somehow OUR fault that we didn't go on to specify that the spring rolls needed to be carrion free.
Lady - *"Karma takes to long -- I'd rather beat the $#@! out of you _now_"*, you know what I mean?
It went down hill from there. We left a short time later, having paid our bill, but having not tipped a penny (and anyone who knows us knows _that_ to be an occasion as rare as a lunar eclipse). So... with tears in our eyes, we're resetting our time-to-vegan-powers timers; does anyone know if you get credit for good intentions in situations like this? I'd hate to have to wait the full time _again_!! read more
