Scenario: your 74-yr-old small-town living, farm-dweller MI mother had her knee replaced 10 weeks…read moreago. She is doing well, still needs a cane but she cannot walk more than a couple of blocks. But, by god, nothing's going to stop her. "I am getting on Amtrak and coming to Chicago!" she tells you. My mother is nothing if not ballsy - or should I say "ovariesy?" I fret, "what are we going to DO with her? She can't keep up with us." This is where Howard Medical Company comes in. This place is the bomb! $15 per day gets you a 18" transport wheelchair (250 lb. weight capacity) - SO easy to fold up, has handles to carry it - fits into your Honda Civic tiny ass trunk. I talked to a woman named Bernie by phone - nice as hell - who says "we have plenty - no need to worry." They open at 8 am - I am there at 8:05 am - assisted by yet another wonderfully nice employee named Jim. He shows me how to fold it, adjust it, etc. This is too easy -pinch me, I am dreaming. I race home to our apt, Metropolis coffee in hand, and say, "Duretta Jean, get in the car - we are Chubby Girl walking at the lake!" Then to Target, then neighborhood strolling, then...oh the possibilities are now endless! A week I was once dreading has now become so much easier. Check them out!

No luck with that, we decided to call many different medical supply companies and Howard was the only responsive company that seemed genuinely interested to help us. We explained what we were doing and Camela was very thrilled when he heard about our charity and event. She was very nice and even suggested a scooter will be better if I want to move more freely on the pilgrimage. She was able to accommodate us in a very special way. I would recommend them to anyone looking for great service from people who care.

We had our equipment delivered through Advacare while doing in home hospice for my mother. They…read morecall you ~30 minutes before they will be at your home to give you a heads up that they would be arriving. My dad and I were at home all day so it was not an issue for us; however, I can see it being difficult for someone who had a caretaker who was not at home all the time. The equipment they brought over was in ok condition. There were some that were quite dusty so always make sure to wipe everything down if possible especially the bed. The hospital bed's remote they gave us was so dirty, I had to clean it and wrap in saran wrap since I did not know where it had been haha. Each delivery is brought in, set up and taken away by one driver. All of our drivers were very friendly, courteous and efficient. We especially got along well with Hector and Mario. I do however agree with a couple of negative reviewers who noted that it is quite cold that they try to get the equipment removed as soon as a hospice patient dies. They called us probably an hour after my mom passed to schedule a time to pick up the equipment. The funeral home wasn't even there at that time. They thankfully let me schedule the pick up for a week after but it would have been nice if they could have given at least a day for the families to grieve before having to think about logistics like equipment pick up.

This is unacceptable. Stay away from this company!

I had dealt with swelling in my legs for over 10 years and then my doctor mentioned lymphedema and…read morereferred me to a lymphedema therapist. I did a few weeks of led wraps and purchased velcro leg wraps. That worked for me a few months and then I purchased custom leg compression socks. Yes the cost was a little bit because medicare will not pay for them but cost does not really matter if it works and solves the problem your having. Absolute Medical has completely solved the lymphedema problem I had. I get up ever morning and put on the socks and I can wear them all day and evening and keep the swelling in my leg under control. If you are a Medicare patient and questioning the benefit vs the cost of custom compression stocks do not hesitate purchase them. You will not be disappointed. If you are not on Medicare, check with your insurance company on what they will cover, your cost though an insurance company may not be a problem compared to dealing with Medicare. I also recommend you have the sales person show you how to put them on. This helps to keep the sock in good shape and it does really help with putting them on. I'm continuing to work with Absolute Medical for some additional medical equipment needs and they have been there for me and answered all my questions. They have given me the equipment to work with and control my lymphedema and I have solved one of my medical problems. You will not regret working with Absolute Medical!

We went in looking for a solution to allow my husband to sleep after rotator cuff surgery. Terri…read morehelped us by first showing us wedges they had available. He had already tried that and it was worse than our couch recliner. She suggested that renting a powerlift chair might be helpful. It was on the pricier side, but the only other idea she had. Well, we thought about over lunch and just decided to just purchase a chair. Terri showed us the options and let us just try out the chairs on our own time. We never felt rushed. It was obviously more than we originally thought of doing, but we are sure we won't regret it in the future. The only thing that didn't make us happy, and why this isn't four stars, was the price tag. We picked the chair we liked best & thought the price was what was on the tag. There were options below the big price, like heat & massage, which were things that could be added to the base. Oh, but the material that the chair used was on that list (which we didn't realize because it was not a common name). It was not in the large number on the price tag and added $900 to the price. We didn't know this until we were checking out. We do not blame Terri for this, but the company that thought this was a good idea. The tag should have had the final price, before taxes & delivery not the base price if you could buy it off of the floor like we did.
