Thank you to our waitress (I think her name was Caitlin) for the best time. Food was great, drinks were fantastic, and the vibes were so good. But overall... whoever was in charge of the music: You were phenomenal. It was banger after banger. We went from Frank Ocean to The Neighborhood to Two Door Cinema Club. Absolutely wonderful and made my entire night. Good music = good times. read more

We started off with the Guacamole and Salsa with fresh, perfectly salted chips. It is the best guac and chips I've ever had and that's coming from me, a 73 year old! We couldn't get enough and had to order another round! My entree was Enchiladas Verdes which was delicious with green chili sauce, soft flour tortilla, beans, rice, and pico de gallo. I would get this again. My daughter and family say they have been here about thirty times. read more

Came here with a large group and had a mixed experience. The famous tamales truly live up to the hype, absolutely delicious and unlike anything else. I also ordered the Margatini Passion, which was refreshing and well made. The guac and chips were decent but a little too much salt on the chips. That said, service was where things fell short. We arrived right when the restaurant opened, yet it still took quite a while before our drink orders were even taken. Overall, everything moved very slowly. When the food finally came out, one person in our group didn't receive their dinner until the rest of us were already halfway through eating, which was pretty frustrating. The food was great, but the service timing made the experience less enjoyable, especially for a larger party. read more

We ordered take out for lunch. The restaurant is nice inside, but a little loud. We got the shrimp quesadilla, rice and beans, a burrito, and brisket tamales. What I will say is, this didn't feel like authentic Mexican food in any way. The chip were ok. The salsa reminded me of thick marinara sauce. The texture and the taste just didn't do it for me!! The shrimp quesadilla was good with the queso. That was the best thing I had!! It wasn't much filling inside, but what was there was tasty. The tamales were decent, but it did throw me off because there was a hint of cinnamon which I absolutely didn't expect. I thought they were ok, but probably wouldn't order them again. The burrito was ok also. It's not wrapped like a normal burrito, so that was a little different. It's like if the food was seasoned it could have been much better, but some of it was bland and just missed the bar. All in all it was ok!! read more

I had the Shrimp tacos, they serving size is huge and could be good for sharing. The way they serve is very unique, you make it your own. Our server was great and very friendly. The place is not a typical Mexican restaurant it is more of a different vibe. read more

It's been a hot minute since I have dined here, but we popped in on a lovely Saturday evening and they happened to not be slammed so we were seated immediately for a table for two. I had the Enchiladas de Queso while my husband had the Luna Maya salad with flank steak. He said the meat was marinated nicely but the salad itself was pretty benign. My enchiladas were flavorful. I opted to have the red sauce on one and the green sauce on the other; so just know that is an option per our server's suggestion. The ambiance was nice. I feel it can tend to get loud in there but so many guests were dining outside that it wasn't too loud inside. Still a favorite place for a nice vibe, consistent food, and good service. read more

Was immediately seated. Seats are modern and clean. I got corner seat, good view to the bar and other seating. Very loud. Server was friendly, she had several recommendations: I ordered the steak chimichurri, served with dipping sauce, no sides of even micro greens. Am giving 3 stars for the food. The dipping sauce was super salty! Almost inedible . read more

This is a really nice place to have an intimate date or dinner out with your partner. Great menu items for sharing too. My only qualm is that it gets ridiculously loud. The echo is crazy. Unluckily I also had a really loud table behind me and that was a mood killer. I still recommend it but you'll prob get a better spot if you reserve ahead. We just walked in. It's a really big space and a bit dark in the evening. read more

So about Luna Maya... This place gets 3 stars because the staff are all so nice and attentive to everything going on. The decor is beautiful, a little artsy/industrial vibe. It's pretty dim inside which sets the mood for an intimate dinner. There is also outside seating. The experience was well worth it. About the food, respectfully it wasn't bad. But was it better than going to your average Mexican restaurant and spending half the price? I honestly couldn't say it was. The carnitas had such a "different " taste to them than I'm used to. The meat wasn't shredded, all though tender it was still somewhat dry at the same time. I believe that is because they use a more lean cut of pork, but if you're getting authentic carnitas it's going to be fatty. It's not meant to be a healthy option lol. I tasted the carne asada, nothing really special in my opinion. One size margaritas that were way too sour. The chips and salsa are not complementary and the chips tasted like they came out of a bag. Maybe I was expecting more because of all I've heard about this place and I traveled from across the water. I hate to leave a review that doesn't shine the best light but people should know what to expect. I did enjoy my time here, with the company I had and the wonderful service. If I do come back maybe I'll try the brisket instead. read more

Food good. Chips and salsa nasty cold. So loud you had to scream. Avoid it. The waitress did great

A great spot for a girls night or date night. Lots of cocktail and margarita options that were really great. Food was delicious and unique. Still get the mexican flare, but not just the typical items you see everywhere else. Service was good, no complaints! Recommend making a reservation, it got busy quick! read more

Luna Maya was pretty good. I enjoyed my meal, but it's not somewhere I'd go again. The tamales...hard pass. It said sweet & savory, but it was all sweet. The meat had a strong cinnamon taste, & it was sitting on a bed of sweet mashed corn (maybe a sort of cornbread situation?) I'm not entirely sure what it was, but it wasn't a tamale. The guac was delicious. I wish we'd gotten the guac for a crowd. Our server said the single portion would be enough for 4 people, but we all wanted more after we finished it. The enchiladas de queso were good as well, but I've had better. The flan was the highlight of the night. It was rich & creamy. I loved it. The tres leche just seemed like a vanilla Bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes that sat in a pool of condensed milk. Overall, it was fine, but it was expensive for what you got. I'm glad I tried it, but once was enough for me. read more

Norfolk staple restaurant I recommend to all in and out of towners. Best skinny mojito and Bolivian inspired Tamales around; other faves are the chips/guac, chorizo queso, chimichurri steak app, and mushroom poblano quesadilla. Indoor and outdoor seating, open for dinner only, staple margarita/mojito menu and rotating beer taps (happy hour on select weeknights at the bar). On street parking, typical Ghent. read more

Okayyyy this review might be a hot take... I DID NOT like this place. I was recommended this place by a friend several months ago (like 10 months back) and I never made it there when I was in the area on that occasion. I was back in the area and decided to make it a priority to catch dinner here since they were raving about it. First: the entrance/exit is weird. It looks like a side door and almost like it's not supposed to be there. Especially if you're visiting in the evening/when it's dark outside. The curtains when you walk in are also kind of weird - mostly it just gave me kind of an icky feeling to have to touch and move these heavy drapes that everyone else has to touch coming in and out as well. Something about it gave me like sticky hotel carpet vibes. It WAS NOT sticky, but it made me a bit squirmy LOL. The interior is quite dimly lit, so if you struggle with seeing in low-light settings, this may be problematic. It can definitely be difficult to see/read the menu and also even to see your food depending on what part of the restaurant you sit in. Anyway, I think I ordered a quesadilla when I had dinner here with two friends, and it was so boring and bland... Friends ordered basically the same thing (I think a steak burrito situation) and they were both unimpressed. I think the biggest issue we all shared was the apparent lack of seasoning on all of the food. Meh. The portions were good sized, but the food just was NOT it for me (or friends), and it was really disappointing to be honest. I also got an order of chips and queso for the table, and we all hated that as well. The queso had no flavor, and it was actually almost a bit gritty(?) is maybe the way I would describe it. A very off-putting texture. The chips I think were house made, and they were also lackluster in my opinion (and definitely lacking salt). Our waitress was fine, she was kind of funny and she kept it real when I asked her about certain things on the menu - one thing in particular I inquired about was the sangria, and she essentially told me not to get it, but offered me a sample. I took the sample and tried it and she was right - HATED IT. She was not very attentive overall though, we waited for the check for quite some time, and I don't think she came back after we got the food initially, actually, but I can't remember for sure. Either way, this place was very disappointing for me, especially with all of the great reviews and recommendations. Maybe I'll try it again some time, but I just was really not thrilled and did not enjoy it, therefore would certainly not recommend. read more

Long story short: Looking for Mexican Food? Keep looking. As a pregnant woman about to give birth and is constantly starving... I took 75% of my burrito home (probably should have left it) and felt like I wasted a meal and money. Went here last night with my husband after being recommended to check this place out. I'm a Cuban from Southern California and I have been home sick the last 8 years being stationed out of California for some decent Mexican cuisine ever since. My spouse is from Puerto Rico-- we were expecting so much more at these price points. We ordered the queso fundido con chorizo as a starter. I have to agree with some previous reviews of how their house made queso is on par to that of jarred Tostitos cheese dip. Additionally, our chips were SO STALE. At these prices, I would expect house made chips. Our chips were most definitely bagged and also 2 different bags/brands (you can tell visually) And to top it off, the chorizo was not giving chorizo flavor. I got the burrito con rajas and my spouse had the holy mole burrito. Mine was supposed to be spicy and have chorizo in it... but again, the chorizo flavor was not it. The flavors were off. His chicken from his burrito was good, but that was about it. The textures of the tortillas were off and mine was brittle/dry. Advertised as "Mexican Latin Restaurant" on their website I think is a bit misleading with the lack of flavor. This may be great for people not well versed in this cuisine, but if you're searching for something more authentic. This place misses the mark. 2/5 because our servers were nice and the ambience is more "upscale". However, sad to see a "Mexican" place that doesn't serve aguas frescas in some capacity. This should definitely be labeled as more of a fusion joint with a larger vegan friendly portioned menu. read more

We have dined in this restaurant many times before and we have noticed that both the quality and the quantity of the food have declined. For example, the rice and beans used to be served in separate bowls and now they arrive in one bowl that is half rice and half beans. The fish quality has dropped and it is now chewy and without flavor. The quesadilla used to come as four large pieces and now it is served as three small pieces. The guacamole used to be served in a large dark bowl and now it comes in a small white dish with almost no flavor. We had to ask for salt, lemon, and oil just to mix into the avocado, and there were hardly any onions or cilantro. The dish looked pale and unappealing. You can look at the photos yourself to see how much it has changed. We are not happy to pay more for less. It is not acceptable. We will not return any time soon. Very disappointing. read more

Yum! Everything here is delicious and fresh. The guac, the sangria, all of it! It looks closed from outside, so it's a little hard to find but 100% worth it. The servers/hosts are quick, friendly, and well versed on the menu. When deciding between a marg and the sangria, our waiter got us a sample and helped us pick the perfect meal. I will absolutely be returning. read more

Disappointing. I hear great things, I go. The drinks taste like hi-c (not in the nostalgic, good way); THE BURRITOS ARE FOLDED: open faced burrito that I promptly rolled myself. All of the food was less than lukewarm but just above cold. Enough to make you feel the need to sh*t in your hands and clap. The queso Is thin and similarly tempered to the burrito and the tamales. Which. were. Sweet. Thanks. Above lukewarm and just below hot: pass. read more

10/10 experience...the staff, specifically Kaitlyn was amazing...Very attentive and pleasant, excellent food at a very reasonable price

Food is always a high quality. Sauces are amazing, especially the chimichurri. Guacamole was delicious and service was good too.

Stopped by for dinner with some friends after work. We enjoyed sitting on the patio - although we were plagued by a ton of flies. Our server was super nice & very attentive! Unfortunately they ran out of guacamole (delivery of avocados wasn't ripe yet) so we ordered chips and salsa instead. I got the shrimp burrito which the server warned me was spicy, but I didn't find it very spicy at all! The food and service are great here but I do think it's overpriced for what you get. read more

Came here after a long day of travel for a conference. We were tired, hungry, overheated and wanted something fresh. Nothing beats latin food on a hot day! The hostesses were lovely and got us a table cleared outaide super quick. Our waitress was on top of it and adorable to boot (she hummed did a little victory tune when she brought out our plates). The patio was lovely on an August afternoon with the breeze and chill lights and chatter. We ordered the veggie taquitos which were amazing but got even better when adding the dipping sauce! The tamales are what they're known for so my husband got the brisket and I got the veggie. I adore tamales and while the open faced nature was unexpected it was damn good. I got mine with both red and green enchilada sauces. Delicious! My husband was so enamored with the place he's added it to our "imaginary street of our favorite restaurants" list. Luna Maya is the perfect place for a cool summer dinner date. We decided to sit at the patio and the jasmine flowers surrounding the walls and fence left the space with a wonderful smell. Our server was kind and recommended the best dishes to us. I ordered the premium margarita which featured delicious tequila that packed punch. My fiancée got the passion fruit margatini and she loved it. The chips and salsa which extra points because the dish it came in had 2 salsa chambers (perfect for when your date destroys salsa). Our food came out quickly and tasted fantastic! I got the chicken quesadilla with spicy chicken, cheesy and delicious. My fiancée got the highly recommended tamales and they were incredible! Highly recommend for great tasting Latin food! read more

Trendy restaurant perfect for a date night/dinner before a night out on the town! My boyfriend and I stopped by for an early Saturday night dinner and were able to snag a couple of seats at the bar. I definitely recommend making a reservation otherwise as the place filled up pretty soon after we got there! The atmosphere was great (lots of warm mood lighting, nice open layout) and the service from our bartender was phenomenal! I'd say the prices for everything were pretty fair (high teens for most entrees/low teens for most cocktails) and are certainly worth it for the flavor! We started off with chips and salsa with the chicken chorizo queso. The queso was 10/10 and was actually very filling. The salsa was also very yummy without being too watery. I always hope to go to a Mexican restaurant where chips and salsa are included so that was my only complaint, but it wasn't too big of a deal. For drinks, we ordered a mango mojito (10/10) and a passion fruit margarita (7/10). For our entrees, I ordered the enchiladas verdes with carne asada and my boyfriend ordered the beef brisket burrito with a side of the jalapeño cornbread. The food was AMAZING, presentation was on point, and I've gotta say...don't sleep on the jalapeño cornbread. Overall, this spot is a great place for a fun dinner. Highly recommend! read more

My honey + friends have been here times before so we decided to visit for his birthday. Went in to get a table on a regular Tuesday evening and I was told I had to wait for the rest of my party to get there. Makes sense, but the restaurant was only about a third full and a lot of people were sitting outside. Had the option to wait at the bar, but I just went to my car. Also, not the best parking situation going on. Low lighting setting that's good for a date or a late night hangout. Finally more of our party came & we were seated. Neal, our waiter, was great! He was able to answer questions and even provided a lighter for the candle on the birthday cake we were able to bring in. The food was good for the most part, just expensive in my opinion. Got the appetizer sized shrimp quesadilla (3 triangles) for $11. Also ordered the queso, which was good but the chips reminded me of the little nacho cheese Lunchable chips. You know what I'm talking about!! Pomegranate margarita was good. Tried the black beans and rice; kind of clay like which I assume goes with the vibes of the restaurant but I could only eat a couple bites of it. Wouldn't visit again on my own time, but I'm glad I was able to give this place a try! read more

I'm going to make it easy for folks. I used to live in Los Angeles, so I know what authentic Mexican is and this pretty far from it. Let's list off the issues: 1. The queso fundido reminded me of Tostitos bagged chips & jarred dip with no flavor and no spice. 2. The steak chimichurri was tasty but cut a bit too prematurely which drained the red juices onto the plate. The chimichurri sauce was fresh and delicious. 3. The vegetable taquitos were not crunchy enough and flavorless. 4. While the margaritas were strong they simultaneously tasted watered down without that classic lime taste that we all know and love. With all this being said, if you're in the mood for Americanized Mexican food, you'll probably enjoy this. Good music and loved the atmosphere. Great service as well. read more

Ambient Latin American restaurant with a down-to-earth vibe. Be sure to come hungry, because the food and drinks are plentiful! I dined here on a Saturday night with a group of friends; there were 8 of us, including a toddler. Pro-tip: make reservations in advance. While they were unable to accept day-of reservations, the hostess graciously agreed to seat us when half our party arrived, since a few of us had gotten there early. It was a busy evening and she raced around to accommodate us while remaining attentive to other patrons. Very much appreciated. They even went out of their way to secure a table with a high-chair for our friend's two-year-old. Now, the exciting part: we started with a round of drinks - I got the sangria. It was light, fruity, and what I'd describe as dangerously delicious. Paired perfectly with chips and guac. We ordered guac for the table, which was fresh, flavorful, and ended up being more than enough for all of us. The menu itself is extensive and I had a tough time deciding. There are several vegan options and while I'm not vegan myself, try to eat plant-based when available. My fiance got the vegan enchiladas, while I got the vegan quesadilla. Both were generous portions with a side of Mexican rice and pinto beans. While rice and beans typically go forgotten, these could have been a meal in themself! The real showstopper was the main course. The enchiladas were a bit too starchy for my taste since they were filled with potatoes, but delicious nonetheless. My meal proved that cheese isn't a requirement for a good quesadilla. It was stuffed to the brim with caramelized onions, beans (that resembled the ones in my side dish), and roasted poblanos. It's the kind of delicious that unfortunately had us eating past the point of fullness - luckily, we still had some leftovers. We can't wait to return and try more of the menu. Our friends ordered the brisket-stuffed tamales which were HUGE and next on our list. read more

We ordered the guacamole and chips, because that's what we always did and nostalgia feels right these days. It was just as delicious as it has always been. My husband ordered the stuff poblanos and I of course took the first bite, and yes, they were everything I remember.
