Every time I am in Capitola I love strolling through this place. Always lots of contemporary and stylish things to see.

I went to Lumen Galery in September for the arts and wine festival. I found the cutest ring and purchased it. She had a size 5 in stock which I could get sized or I could just order size 6 from her. She looked up how much more the size 6 would be from the designer and I decided to pay the difference instead of buying a size 5, and taking it to a jeweler. I was told the ring is white topaz, diamonds and 14 karat gold. I found it odd she was going to charge me for shipping. Usually when you make such a large purchase shipping is free. And come to find out after finding out who the designer is she also charges free shipping on her website. The owner said she had to ship it to lumen Gallery and then ship it to me, therefore charging me. Not sure why you couldn't just get direct shipping from the designer. Maybe just another way to charge the customer. Just like she charges for bags and doesn't tell you. I think it was 3.50 a bag she charged my friend times two. It was a bit of a struggle getting it shipped. I hadn't heard anything so I sent an email and she said she had just received it that day. Then she said she was out of the office for a few days. Not quite sure why she was the only one who could ship it out. With that being said, I received the ring. There wasn't any information about the ring or who the jeweler was. Which led me to believe something was wrong. I asked her to send me information on the ring and who the jeweler was. And asking her why it wasn't stamped 14 karat gold. She then responded that the jeweler was now using 9 carat instead of 14 carat. Because gold prices have rose dramatically in the last year. And apparently the jeweler did not notify her. I find that hard to believe if you're carrying a jeweler in your Boutique that they would not notify you about new gold standards. Not to mention when she looked up how much the size 6 would be it's right there on the webpage, I later find out and I looked up her information. When I took it to a jeweler, he also said that not all of the diamonds were real. (I can honestly say that part had nothing to do with the owner at lumen Gallery) i jeweler said I would have to pay $350 to do an extensive review. Which I was not going to do. I contacted the owner after receiving the information from the jeweler. Instead of being very apologetic, she was rude and defensive. She should've had no qualm over giving me a full refund under these false pretenses. She then told me I could not get a refund. After I said I would report her to the Better Business Bureau. She said she would give me a partial refund and I would have to pay a restocking fee and shipping. I said absolutely not!! I then decided to be my own advocate and filed a claim with my bank to receive my full refund. Per the bank she has to approve the refund. I filed that on September 30 and I'm still waiting. If I don't get my full refund I'm then going to file a complaint with the BBB. It's really unfortunate that she treats customers this way. I attached the receipt and the return policy and the text conversation. This could've all been solved real quick if she would've just said I'm so sorry. Can I give you a full refund. Or maybe a discounted price. It's unfortunate because she has some really adorable things in her store. But I cannot support a local business owner when she treats her customers this way. read more

We love Lumen Gallery! It is our favorite FAVORITE store in Capitola. We met Cierra when we're we there and her amazing staff pulled out every Chilewich rug possible for us to find the exact right one... well... turns out it didn't look good so when I went back, they again patiently pulled out every rug possible until I found this beauty! I love the vibe of Lumen gallery. The art is stunning, the jewelry glorious, but the icing on the cake is supporting someone so deserving of success like Cierra- if you want a great experience, go in, meet the staff, feel the vibe and enjoy!! Lumen Gallery - Chilewich Rug - 2'x6' - Gift Shops Near Me - Capitola, California

Lumen is far more than your average gallery. This is a thoughtfully curated local shop with plenty of unique gift offerings and items you'll want to have around your house. Basically, stuff you never thought you needed until you walk in their doors. We stopped in while strolling around downtown Capitola. They were super strict when it comes to COVID regulations and were only allowing a small amount of folks in the store at a time after sanitizing. This meant our group of four had to stagger going in, but I'm glad they are airing on the side of caution vs. the other way around. Once inside we found goodies galore. Handmade topographic 3-d wood maps, old posters, phallic and sexual sculptures (our favorite and some really cool jewelry. All of what they offer supports small and local artists, which is a wonderful way to benefit the community as a whole. We would not hesitate to pop back in here when we are next in town! read more

It's been a couple of years so I thought an update was in order. Parking is street only and given the limited streets and massive traffic I suspect it's far better to get one of the pay lots a block or two away and walk on over. This part of Capitola is very walkable, and in the summer it's far easier to get around on foot or by bike then by car. The store medium ish size-although it's one of the larger non clothing shops on the block.The stock has slightly shifted in the last couple years away from pricey large high end pieces that take up the center of a room, to somewhat smaller wall hanging/furnishing items. More (and better) jewelry and watches (both men's and women's) along with more accessory style stuff then I recall. The ceramic/steel water bottles may seem pricey but they can both contain and entire bottle of wine and keep it cool throughout the day, in addition to not having an obvious breakable glass bottle on the beach. Er, or so a friend told me. All that makes it an even better casual browse then ever before. read more

This is my go to spot for holiday and birthday gifts. I love to support local, and Lumen Gallery has a variety of unique, creative and local goodies to choose from. Every time I drop in I find something new, and if I don't know what I'm looking for I can always ask for assistance. This Gallery is amazing I am a student and I had to do a review on the art, atmosphere and such for a gallery and I picked Lumen. Overall the feel and actual artwork was amazing they were defiantly pulling off that calm beach feel. They have hand carved surfboards, Amazing paintings on canvas and I even saw some acrylic paintings on a board of wood where the artist used the natural grain of the wood to help portray the sea and the sky. Overall I had a good time at Lumen and would recommend all to visit when they take a trip to Capitola read more

The gallery itself is great and full of interesting stuff. But I felt like I was at a used car dealership! The owner is very pushy and follows you around until you leave or buy something. Someone needs to tell her that she has an art gallery not a used car dealership. read more
