Phenomenal dinner! We were recommended this restaurant by several people in Cabo and decided to go. We started with the blue fin tuna appetizer, the flavor was perfect! They send out a complimentary flamed, warm bread with a smoked butter. Very good. For dinner, we did the dinner for 2: local catch (seabass today) which I was super happy to hear since its my favorite fish, octopus, and steak. We both agreed all were amazing but the steak was our top choice. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The brussels were so good and so were the asparagus, and the sauces on the plate were an amazing touch. Cocktails: I had the watermelon oasis. The flavor was great although slightly too sweet for my pallet. I also had an espresso martini which was perfectly shaken and delicious. For dessert, we had the donut and strawberry ice cream. It didn't have the traditional torched crunchy top however was very soft and the ice cream was too notch with fresh strawberry. I would definitely recommend this dinner. This used to be my go-to place every year whenever I visited San Jose, and it had always been a highlight of my trips. Unfortunately, this last visit was a big disappointment. While the food and presentation still live up to what I would consider Michelin-quality standards, the service has declined dramatically. We expected a knowledgeable and attentive waiter who could walk us through the menu, but instead, our server simply pointed at items without offering any explanation. That kind of interaction feels unnecessary--I can read the menu myself. The experience became even more frustrating as the meal went on. After placing our order, someone else brought out the food, and our original waiter never returned--not even once--to check on us or see how everything was. For a place where you might spend a couple of hours enjoying a meal, that level of service just isn't acceptable. I had read online that this restaurant was considered Michelin-quality, and in terms of food alone, I can see why. However, with service this inattentive and impersonal, I don't see how they'll come close to earning that kind of recognition. This was hands down the best meal we had during our trip to Cabo (and we did not have a single bad meal on the trip). Lumbre was the first meal of our trip and 'sadly' it set the bar way to high. We had the cochinita as our appetizer and then shared the roasted chicken along with the broccolini and confit potatoes. We also had the one class and always fashion dessert, which was incredible. Kitchen is open concept. It's dark and romantic. Went for my bday and tried quite a few delicious dishes. This seems like a place the menu will change seasonally so we can't wait to return next time. We had a great dinner here recently. They have seating inside and on the patio. The lighting sets a cool vibe. You can view the open kitchen/grill from your table. They didn't have a high chair, but my daughter was able to sit on a pillow at our elevated table. The complimentary bread and bone marrow butter were fantastic. The ceviche, oysters and blue fin tuna were phenomenal. The New York carne asada, roasted chicken and pork belly were all great entrees. They all had great flavor. What a find! This place came recommended by a friend, who is frequently in Cabo San Jose. We opted to give it a try & what a nice surprise. Tonight there was 6 in our group. We started off with a few cocktails & a starter of fresh bluefin tuna. There were about 3 salads: the compressed melon salad with endive & smoked tomatoes, the grilled romaine salad with avocado, seaweed & Parmesan cheese & lastly the bean salad - All 3 salads got devoured. Onto the mains: there were 2 fish specials consisting of halibut & served with fresh tortillas; an order of the New York carne asada just heavenly melted in your mouth: an order of the shrimp with spices that fit it perfectly; picanha barbacoa - a soup of sorts & an order of Brussel sprouts. Just screaming goodness all around! The flavor combinations were so well done, things you would not think to put together & the blend of flavors - BRAVO . Lastly desserts: there was 4 orders of the donuts which is filled with Crème brûlée served with a side of hibiscus ice cream & a pineapple cake of sorts with roasted pineapple & ice cream as well - scrumptious doesn't do the description justice. From the outside, it appears trendy. Once you walk in, it's like a log cabin built for a comfortable cold night. I didn't go upstairs and therefore cannot give a description. Service was inviting and makes you feel at home. Other then our hostess and waiter, even one of the chefs came by to describe some of the food we could order that night. This helped a lot in my decision on what we want to try. What a creative and exiting menu that really opened up our appetite for the evening even though we were not very hungry walking in. Here are what we had. Bread & Bone Marrow Butter (9/10) - Complimentary from the restaurant. Wow! Glad they did because we would have missed one of the best things we ate that night. We liked it so much that we got a round two, then three. Lol Thai Coconut Clam (10/10) - Maybe the dish of the night. The amazingly rich, creamy, and sweet flavors balanced so well with the crunchy and briny chocolate clam. Wow! Fatty Tuna (7/10) - Being a sushi snob, this dish did not necessarily impress me, but still delicious nonetheless. The cut used was chutoro and it was tasty enough, but I feel that the dashi was a bit too overpowering. Allowing the fish and truffles to shine would have been better. Stone Grilled Oysters (8/10) - First of all, beautiful presentation. This was quite a delicious combination of shellfish grilled over open flames in a rich buttery sauce. Not to be outdone, the super crispy fries with avocado & ashes puree was awesome. Wild Shrimp (9/10) - Another major winner. Perfectly grilled on skewers with a delectable sauce. Honestly, I can't think of the last shrimp dish that I lobed so much. Tender & Crispy Octopus (7/10) - The sweetbreads on this plate actually stole the show. They were absolutely magnificent. The octopus was tender, almost to the point that it was slightly mushy. I would have preferred a tiny chew to remind me what I am eating. Also, there was definitely some crispiness, but I would certainly be okay if the chef charred the octopus some more. With that said, still a good dish overall. I found Lumbre through Yelp, so thank you for turning onto this wonderful place. This will be a must visit for all future trips to Los Cabos. read more

My husband and I had the pleasure of experiencing Lumbre last week while on vacation. To say the dining experience was phenomenal is an understatement. The staff were so friendly and you can tell everyone there takes so much pride in the work they do. Our server Miguel was incredibly knowledgeable on the food and really made the experience for us. The decor and set up of the restaurant is beautiful and in pristine clean condition. We have been to a lot of fine dining restaurants but I can say with confidence that Lumbre is the best food we have ever eaten. With each new dish we tried, the flavors just got better and better. Every dish was spectacular. Our favorites were the blue fin tuna and the Crème brûlée doughnut. We even came back a second night for these two dishes. This was one of the best meals I've ever had. The atmosphere, service, cocktails, wine pairings, and food were all excellent. It was their 2nd anniversary, and they had a 6-course tasting menu in addition to the regular one. I am not sure if they normally have the tasting menu, but everything on the regular menu looked amazing and we will be back to try that. Our favorites were the oyster, mackerel, and beef tongue, but even our least favorite courses were very good. The corn and chocolate dessert was a great way to finish the meal. We did not love seeing a band setting up when we got there, but they were great, too, and at a perfect volume for the room and atmosphere. A friend and I visited Cabo from Portland and in our search for a unique taste different from that beaten path we found Lumbre. Make sure to plan your dinning and make a reservation as it gets noticeably filled up quick. We didn't have one but the host sat us at the bar and worked us into a table. We almost left but they really made time and space to get us a table. Admittedly we were impressed by the reviews but upon the host's raving reviews we became skeptical. Let's be honest, all restaurants of course give raving suggestions about their food and that's something I usually giggle at as I leave unimpressed. NOT THIS TIME!
