I believe out and back it's about a mile, and it's all boardwalk. The first part is a dense swamp...so dense it was hard to see into the forest/woods. Then the second half were the huge trees typical along the Oregon coast. Lots of wildlife to hear and see (birds, squirrels, and chipmunks). And it's just off the main road in Rockaway. If you can spare 30min-1hr, I would definitely recommend it.

Also, my dog is getting older so that made it easier for her to walk as well. There were lots of benches and places to stop and it was mostly shaded. There was lots of greenery to look at and we saw plenty of birds. I could also hear the sounds of water and I think they're is a little stream nearby or perhaps under the walkway. It was a nice walk with good scenery and I really liked the giant tree at the end.

Lots of out of state folks here doing this hike- I'm sure it would be quite packed on a weekend. The trail itself was a bit overgrown and narrow in parts. Beware of game trails, I missed a turn and found myself a ways down a game trail before turning around. The view at the top is amazing, definitely don't just view from the lower trail. If you're able- climb up the rock face to see the view from the peak. It's so worth it!

A short hike from the parking lot trailhead leads you to this beach. I was surprised since there…read morewas a restroom with plumbing right next to the beach, in addition to the one at the trailhead. I guess it gets very busy during the summer. The trail is well marked and well maintained, with only one or two muddy areas which are easily navigated to avoid getting wet. I wasn't able to get close to Blumenthal Falls on the north end of Short Sand Beach due to the tide and waves, but I could see it from the end of the trail on the beach. It's on of the very few waterfalls in the PNW that cascades into the Pacific Ocean. Very pretty! The beach itself is very picturesque as it's located in a cove surrounded by mountains. Several benches are present to let you take it all in.

The trails go off in different directions with decent signage along the way. Let's be real, the Oregon coastline is gorgeous no matter where you decide to stop off, and Short Sand is no different. Two creeks emerge from the trees flowing onto the sands and into what feels like a huge "cove" with great waves (at least this day) and a lovely beach. Beautiful spot! I can see why it's so busy during most of the year, but it's sooo peaceful right now during the winter!

Anyway, we stopped at the park which is quick turnout with parking, then a short walk to the beach. Parking is free but the lot small. The beach and views from it are spectacular. I envy the people who live close by the park or on the Oregon coast in general. They are lucky people because the Oregon coast is among the most beautiful in the world. Arcadia beach and Ecola State park (a few minutes north of Arcadia) are absolutely must-see when driving Pacific coast highway 101.

6/21/25 The hike was over grown bush. We were ducking very…read morelow to not get hit in the face. When we got to the end you could hear the falls but could not see them at all. A little disappointed but you can't stop Mother Nature. The trees and bush have block the view entirely. The stream that runs along the path you can see in spots. The road up is narrow and lots of pot holes. If the hike was 2 miles or so I would do but not 1/4 mile. Maybe next time

So, right before the parking lot, we took a wrong turn at the fork (do NOT go left- follow the…read moresigns for 'Oregon State Park' ). After about 3min of rough going, we figured out that no tire tracks mean we took the wrong fork in the road. FYI- there's no internet when you get off the main road. When we got to the right place, parking was super easy, and even though it was rainy and soggy and no one was around, we took all our stuff out of the car anyway. There were reports that people's cars were broken into, so yeah- took everything. The water fall is like, an easy 1/4 mile up through some lush greenery. The path is, maybe kinda paved, but not smooth. Incline is rather minimal. The waterfall at the end is pretty cool. Not loads of water, but you're really close to the river the whole way up. It was a relaxing walk, and entirely pretty and pleasant. It's worth a look if you have an extra 30-45min., maybe if you're going out to the Tillamook creamery or just headed up or down the coast.

Very clean accessible restrooms x2. Natural space behind it, but not open for play. Would be good to enhance the 2 landscaped patches for natural play (logs, stepping stones).

Beautiful spot along the Wilson River Highway...minus the trash…read more We've meant to stop by and check out the footbridge so many times, but finally got there this weekend. The trailhead has a lot to offer: trail connector to Wilson River Trail and to the Tillamook Forest Center...a beautiful swimming hole...short trek to Wilson Falls and Bridge Creek Falls. BUT, the amount of trash we encountered as we wandered around the area was both disturbing and sad. While trying to admire the beautiful river we noticed abandoned blow-up toys..plastic cups, straws, and gallon jugs..wet towels and clothing..piles of pup poop. There were items all around the beach area, along the trails each direction, throughout the parking lot, even up on the cliffs where people jump in. It really put a dark cloud over what really should be a stunning place for various outdoor activities. Such a shame. The Footbridge Day Use area really has soooo much beauty and fun to offer. If only visitors would be responsible and respect nature!!
