Sometimes I forget you can review public spaces like beaches and parks, definitely gotta write more of those! But anyways, I came to Rockaway Beach to celebrate my friend's surprise birthday bonfire. The beach is clean with not too many people since it isn't considered one of the more touristy ones nearby like Cannon or Seaside. You're also allowed to have fire pits here which is lovely, just make sure to keep away from the nearby brush. Sunset was gorgeous, and it wasn't wildly cold for an Oregon summer. We did have a strange experience though where someone lost a kid and we did a search party (yes, the kid was found), so that was an interesting way to end the birthday bonfire. Regardless of that, would recommend anyone to come visit here!
Nice and quaint beach town. The beach is clean and has a beautiful view of the Twin Rocks. There are quite a few beach access areas along Highway 101. There is a small public parking lot with about 30 spaces. It fills up fast, so nearby street parking is a good option. Across the side street from the public lot, there are public restrooms available. They are clean, and all 5 bathrooms are individual with locking door. They are gender neutral, and one is handicap accessible. There are quite a few restaurants to choose from. We like Sand Dollar and Lakeside Hideaway. There's also a bakery, coffee shops, deli and market. Besides the beach, there is the beautiful Lake Lytle. I also recommend walking along the boardwalk trail to the Big Tree. It's a huge western red cedar tree and an interesting one to see! There's also a gorgeous view of the Twin Rocks at the end of Minnehaha St. There are a few parking spots and a trail down to the beach. Overall, it is a nice and usually quiet beach town. Would recommend if you're looking for a peaceful beach without all the crowds at the more popular Cannon Beach, Lincoln City, or Seaside.
Beautiful beach. Beautiful spot. Our entire Family enjoyed our week long stay in Rockaway. I will note, only because I have a passion on this subject, but I would walk the beach in the evening with an empty bag collecting trash. It wouldn't take long before I ran out of room in the bag. Pack up what you pack in! Keep Oregon beautiful. Keep our oceans healthy!
You know the best thing about this place? They have a beach... where you can actually sit on a bench and watch the sun set. The benches are set up for just this purpose. If you want, you can cross the street for a frozen treat and walk back and the bench is still empty. I love that there arent crowds here and the traffic noise is far enough so as not to distract from the view. The beach is about four steps down from the parking lot and its convenient. There is a public bathroom near the parking lot but it's nasty dirty. Other than that, we come here a lot just to enjoy the beach without the crowds.
This happens to be my favorite beach on the Oregon coast. Twin rocks of course are beautiful. Besides that though there aren't a ton a people! Which on a beach is awesome! There are plenty of shells to find as well. For us land locked folks, that's important. Well, to my children. I really just love how tranquil this beach was. We spent five days going to this beach every day and were sooooo happy we decided to stay here.
The bestttttttttttt!!! I've been here several times now. It's one of the furthest beaches I've driven to. It's a good 6 hours away from Seattle!! The beach is almost untouched. It's long, sandy, gorgeous! Almost always cold. It is pacific ocean! Have that gorgeous fog and smoke! It's almost always look like a painting. Never as crowded as the other beaches nearby. I love staying on the beach when I come here. And walk! The winter walks here, barefoot! Ice cold ocean water on your feet while you have winter coats and scarf on? Pretty great. It's pet friendly, kite friendly and then some. Parking is free! I see the bonfire still even though they recently banned it. Now my tiny puppy loves it too. Only wish it wasn't a 6 hours one way drive! Total of 12 hours just to come here!!!
I absolutely love this little seaside town. No crowds, wide expanse of lovely beaches. The town is benefiting from an improved economy and there are now TWO markets here in town. There is a small public parking with nearby public restrooms (clean). The view of twin rocks is excellent. Man has made accommodations to allow us mere mortals to relax in comfort and enjoy the spectacular creation. There is also a place to wash your feet.
Old. SO old. No pets. Can literally hear EVERYTHING from rooms above, below, next to, and very aware when toilets are flushed abd people in shower. Speaking of showers....Don't bother. Water is a trickle. Balconies, ALL of oceanview balconies of "north building" closed. Owners PROHIBITED from use of "south building". Because they ALREADY paid and now get shafted?
Lovely quiet little town. Had a very nice birthday weekend here! Look forward to visiting again
I drove by this beach while I was in Oregon Beach around September 2015. I didn't stop or anything. There wasn't anyone there either. It was very quite I am guessing in the summer time when its nice and hot it would be a great time to sit and relax at this quiet beach.
Great beach. Miles of sand and surf to watch. Great for kite flying or relaxing. Lots of runners and walkers. One thing that could be improved? Steps or ramp down to the beach at entrances. Handicap access.
This is actually a nice beach. We spent a few days here and we were able to find parking reasonably close to the beach at multiple different locations. The sand is fine and great for digging with the kiddos, building sandcastles or just walking barefoot. It can get pretty crowded but the water is decent and it has nice views. I can't in good conscience give it more than three starts though; The flying carpenter ants are quite a nuisance and you will have to deal with dozens if you plan on staying more than an hour. I liked that they allow bonfires at first, but unfortunately as they have very few restrictions, you will find that people are burning all evening and all night and the smell of smoke overpowers everything. There were people burning in large pits they dug in the sand and teens running around with sticks lit on fire all night. Just being in proximity filled our clothes and gear and car with a thick smoke smell. In the morning it was difficult even to breathe in the fresh air from the beach with the smoldering fires and thick smoke smell. If you love bonfires, this is definitely the beach for you though and you would probably rate it more of a 4 or 5 star beach. If you go to the beach for the fresh, clean air, I would only recommend a short visit here during the day. read more
We were at Rockaway Beach for the kite festival. Great beach to visit for the entire family and it's free. No passes and entrance fee nor pay for parking. See the choo-choo train come by you can get tickets to ride the train. Lots of vendors- table display and food vendors too. The town is friendly. Shop local and notice brewery and many eateries too. Public restrooms are clean and plenty. Beautiful sandy beach. Great day to be out and just walk along the beach get your feet wet. Picture perfect day for a picnic. Tillamook Creamery is not too far away. Will be back again. read more
As we headed out of Portland to escape the city, we had to stop at a beach. This beach was about 1.5 hours from Portland without traffic. The beach was brisk as it was winter time but offered beautiful views on a sunny days as the sun glistened over the waves. Plus nice views of some rock features that included an arch within the ocean. On the beach we found a selection of shells and remains of crabs. Plus there was a lot of wood that washed ashore. There is a small parking lot by the beach. Otherwise street park is available further out. I imagine during the summer the beach is busy and park is tight. Bathrooms are located next to parking lot. Main Street of this small town is just a short distance away where you can grab so food and/or drinks! Cheers! read more

Made a detour while heading back from Tillamook, OR. This beach was definitely more clean than others we've been too, and not 1 dead Dungeness crab buried in the sand. read more

Such an amazing beach. I've been to many all over the U.S. and this one is my favorite. Both days we went were perfect. The sand was warm and it wasn't too windy. There is a lot of space to spread out and not feel like people are too near to you. The water is beautiful cold but beautiful! We drove out past the town and parked at the state park. Easy walk out to the beach from the parking lot. Can't wait to go back again. It's a great place for kids to play, a picnic or a stroll a long the water. We found a lot of dollars and shells. Looking forward to visiting this place again. read more

Love this Beach! Dogs welcome on the beach on leash... Slow mid-week days might find you alone enough to provide a little off the leash time for a well behaved pooch. read more
