As we headed out of Portland to escape the city, we had to stop at a beach. This beach was about 1.5 hours from Portland without traffic. The beach was brisk as it was winter time but offered beautiful views on a sunny days as the sun glistened over the waves. Plus nice views of some rock features that included an arch within the ocean. On the beach we found a selection of shells and remains of crabs. Plus there was a lot of wood that washed ashore. There is a small parking lot by the beach. Otherwise street park is available further out. I imagine during the summer the beach is busy and park is tight. Bathrooms are located next to parking lot. Main Street of this small town is just a short distance away where you can grab so food and/or drinks! Cheers! read more

Sometimes I forget you can review public spaces like beaches and parks, definitely gotta write more of those! But anyways, I came to Rockaway Beach to celebrate my friend's surprise birthday bonfire. The beach is clean with not too many people since it isn't considered one of the more touristy ones nearby like Cannon or Seaside. You're also allowed to have fire pits here which is lovely, just make sure to keep away from the nearby brush. Sunset was gorgeous, and it wasn't wildly cold for an Oregon summer. We did have a strange experience though where someone lost a kid and we did a search party (yes, the kid was found), so that was an interesting way to end the birthday bonfire. Regardless of that, would recommend anyone to come visit here! read more

Nice and quaint beach town. The beach is clean and has a beautiful view of the Twin Rocks. There are quite a few beach access areas along Highway 101. There is a small public parking lot with about 30 spaces. It fills up fast, so nearby street parking is a good option. Across the side street from the public lot, there are public restrooms available. They are clean, and all 5 bathrooms are individual with locking door. They are gender neutral, and one is handicap accessible. There are quite a few restaurants to choose from. We like Sand Dollar and Lakeside Hideaway. There's also a bakery, coffee shops, deli and market. Besides the beach, there is the beautiful Lake Lytle. I also recommend walking along the boardwalk trail to the Big Tree. It's a huge western red cedar tree and an interesting one to see! There's also a gorgeous view of the Twin Rocks at the end of Minnehaha St. There are a few parking spots and a trail down to the beach. Overall, it is a nice and usually quiet beach town. Would recommend if you're looking for a peaceful beach without all the crowds at the more popular Cannon Beach, Lincoln City, or Seaside. read more

I will note, only because I have a passion on this subject, but I would walk the beach in the evening with an empty bag collecting trash. It wouldn't take long before I ran out of room in the bag. You know the best thing about this place? They have a beach... where you can actually sit on a bench and watch the sun set. The benches are set up for just this purpose. If you want, you can cross the street for a frozen treat and walk back and the bench is still empty. I love that there arent crowds here and the traffic noise is far enough so as not to distract from the view. The beach is about four steps down from the parking lot and its convenient. There is a public bathroom near the parking lot but it's nasty dirty. Other than that, we come here a lot just to enjoy the beach without the crowds. read more

For us, Rockaway Beach hits all the high notes--a Long Beach for leisurely walks, plentiful housing, and enough restaurants to support a one week stay without repetition. For this trip, we opted to cook our own meals during Covid and mostly stayed out of restaurants during December's high Covid counts in 2020. I absolutely love this little seaside town. No crowds, wide expanse of lovely beaches. The town is benefiting from an improved economy and there are now TWO markets here in town. There is a small public parking with nearby public restrooms (clean). The view of twin rocks is excellent. Man has made accommodations to allow us mere mortals to relax in comfort and enjoy the spectacular creation. There is also a place to wash your feet. read more

The bestttttttttttt!!! I've been here several times now. It's one of the furthest beaches I've driven to. It's a good 6 hours away from Seattle!! The beach is almost untouched. It's long, sandy, gorgeous! Almost always cold. It is pacific ocean! Have that gorgeous fog and smoke! It's almost always look like a painting. Never as crowded as the other beaches nearby. I love staying on the beach when I come here. And walk! The winter walks here, barefoot! Ice cold ocean water on your feet while you have winter coats and scarf on? Pretty great. It's pet friendly, kite friendly and then some. Parking is free! I see the bonfire still even though they recently banned it. Now my tiny puppy loves it too. Only wish it wasn't a 6 hours one way drive! Total of 12 hours just to come here!!! read more

This is my go to beach on the Oregon coast. A long flat walking beach with great views of the sea stacks and arch rock, on weekdays the beach is uncrowded with lots of room for dogs to roam. We usually stay at the Silver Sands hotel with views of the beach and roiling waves. There are public bathrooms, and public parking with beach access by the Sand Dollar bar and restaurant. We have thoroughly enjoyed reasonably priced drinks in the bar overlooking this beach even on rainy days. read more

Such an amazing beach. I've been to many all over the U.S. and this one is my favorite. Both days we went were perfect. The sand was warm and it wasn't too windy. There is a lot of space to spread out and not feel like people are too near to you. The water is beautiful cold but beautiful! We drove out past the town and parked at the state park. Easy walk out to the beach from the parking lot. Can't wait to go back again. It's a great place for kids to play, a picnic or a stroll a long the water. We found a lot of dollars and shells. When I come to the Oregon coast, I'm here for one thing: agates! We love collecting them, and have amassed quite the collection over the years. Upon doing research online, we found that there are no good agate beaches within 30 minutes to the north and 45 minutes to the south of Rockaway Beach. It's in a total dead zone for agate hunting! Rockaway Beach does have plenty of sand dollars though, so if you're into shell collecting it's a great place for that. While the beach itself was pleasant, with gorgeous sand that begged us to take off our sandals, I personally came for the agates and Rockaway Beach did not deliver. I should also mention that the beach gets very narrow during high tide, nearly up to the shops in some places on a daily basis. I will stick with Depoe Bay and Arch Cape in the future. read more

We came to Rockaway Beach to escape the insanity of Southern California. We found the Beach Bite in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, and were very glad to have our sanity restored. On a very rainy night in April, 2017, we decided to try our luck at this local eatery in what is essentially a very small town on the central Oregon coast. We had no idea whether this was going to be a good idea or a bad one. Fortunately for us, this was a very good choice. Our host, Wagner, greated us with a smile and the professional polish that told us immediately that we were dealing with a top-knotch restaurantuer. He shared with use the evening's specials (steak and fetucinni, and fish-and-chips), and was fully conversant regarding the offerings from local breweries (he recommended the Fort George "Vortex" IPA--and he was spot-on in his pick). His professional and personal manner was far-and-way more than we would have expected in a local beachside eatery. Summarizing, the service and dinner were excellent, and we visited the Beach Bite several more times during our stay. The entire staff is professional, friendly, and knoweledgable in how a reputable food-service entity should operate--whether in a small beach-side community, or in a metropolitan setting. My wife and I strongly suggest you visit the Beach Bite on your next visit to Rockaway Beach, Oregon. And when you do, be sure to ask for Wagner--and about the Lemon Cheescake dessert.
