Items Selected: Chocolate Frappe Dulce de Leche Sugar and Raspberry Jam Tahini Pistachio Established in 1992 by a Greek ex-patriot in Barcelona, Lukumas Holes & Coffee was the third Breakfast stop on Friday, a visit earlier in the week prevented by the Doughnuts Shop's Cash-only policy but the wait perhaps fortuitous as the shelves were fully stocked on arrival with several of the glazed rings still warm to touch. Located on Carrer del Torrent de l'Olla, essentially an ally with clotheslines hanging overhead and access limited to those traveling by foot or bike, it was just prior to 11h00 that a party of two entered the small space where an English-fluent couple was chatting and enjoying Coffee, the same server present as during the first visit immediately complimenting one guest's T-Shirt featuring a Pig and thus kicking off a lengthy five-person conversation about the movie Okja on Netflix. Small and homey in its design, a single glass case of Donuts on the counter in front of an Espresso Machine with a small plastic Pig and map of Greece the only real decorations aside from colorful seating for four, it was after weighing both the choices and remaining appetite that the decision was made to invest in three Doughnuts plus a Chocolate Frappe, the drink cool and creamy but unfortunately overwhelmed by unsweetned Whipped Cream which made the last several sips mostly undrinkable. Moving on to the Donuts, Rings and Holes of several traditional flavors in addition to a few novelties offered next to Bagels, it was with two filled choices and one topped in sweetened Tahini and crushed Pistachios that the order was comprised, the bases all identical with an egginess reminiscent of Brioche while the toppings and fillings were all quite good, the Sugar and Raspberry Jam far lighter and more natural than many found Stateside while the Dulce De Leche pocket featured thick Caramel beneath Vanilla Glaze and Cinnamon Streusel. read more

Lukumas has been on my list for a while, after seeing the glowing Yelp reviews and taking a peek at their website I knew I'd have to make the trip up to Gracia for some breakfast one of these days. I am a huge doughnut fan and I was absolutely pleased by these delicious treats, but more than that the shop in general was a delight. The neighborhood is one of my favorites in Barcelona, and I can happily say that Lukumas will absolutely become a must-do next time I'm up here in the AM. My friend and I grabbed a spot at the back table and met three excellent, new friends who life just up the road and fell in love with the music the cute guy behind the counter was playing. We have stopped by this donut shop on multiple occasions on our way to school in the mornings. The donuts are gourmet and delicious with interesting flavors. There are traditional donuts, filled donuts, and filled donut holes. They're pretty heavy. The shop is very aesthetically pleasing, and it also doubles as a coffee shop. Understand two things: 1) I was raised on Donut Man donuts (in other words, I so-humbly consider myself a connoisseur) 2) I don't have a sweet tooth. I have about 20. APPARENTLY Spain is less crazy about eating anything too sweet, going out to eat in general, overeating, etc. So I was quite thrilled to find this little Greek gem to satiate my American-sized appetite. Grab a little chocolate donut or jelly-filled one. One covered in powdered sugar or coconut flakes. How about them NUTELLA-filled donuts? Grab about 5 of those. If none of those sound appealing, opt for one of the many options: chocolate/strawberry-filled, glazed, lemon, etc. There's something for everyone. It's very new, modern, and clean in comparison to many of the old and maintained bars and cafes in its historical neighborhood, Gracia. The art and decor changes once in a while, and the man who runs the place is very nice. If you don't speak Spanish or Catalan, just point and nod and pay and it should work as if you do! If you're visiting the city, grab some donuts on your way to Parc Güell and enjoy them with the views of beautiful Barcelona. One of my favorite spots when I lived there! read more

This place has doughnuts! I decided to try it because of all of the amazing reviews on Yelp! and found out that it really is pretty great. It's a really small space, even though it doesn't seem like it because of the decorations. The walls are beautiful white linoleum tiles in brick shape. There are two small bars with tall chairs to sit at if you need to sit at a bar, and a communal table. That's it (now you understand how small it is). Like I said before though, you almost don't notice how small it is, because it is incredibly charming, like they've found the middle ground between classy and homey. The AC is not too high, but a little low for super hot summer days. I had a strawberry sprinkles covered donut, and honestly it wasn't very donut tasting, but it was good. You can't really blame a café shop in Barcelona for not having super authentic donuts, I mean it hasn't been popular for that long. The lady who was working when I went in was incredibly nice, and helpful. She didn't mind me asking probably a few too many questions than I should have. For all you studiers, I couldn't find any electrical outlets, but the table is perfect for putting a computer on, on laying work on top of. It also seems really safe in terms of leaving your computer on the table, although to be honest, I would never do that anywhere. The music is not too loud or too quiet, it's just right, and also it's good music in and of itself People who come in here are both people who live in Barcelona, and tourists, which gives it a great ambiance, especially since the pricing charts are in friendly Catalan. Arrived at 11:20 on a Saturday and a majority of the donuts were already gone! Donuts were great though. Had the Greek one that was described as "walking through a pine Forrest", and we were pleasantly surprised by the nice pine smell ( but no pine taste). Oreo donut was awesome. I have never been to Lukumas, even if the place have been on my list for a long time because of good Yelp-ratings. Still I had the pleasure to try their doughnuts at Syra, (a coffeplace nearby) and therefor this rating is based in the food alone. I'm not really a big fan of pastries and cakes, and absolutely not of doughnuts. Or I wasn't. You can imagen I was quite a surprise when Lukumas proved me wrong. The doughnuts are incredibly tasty, soft and creamy on the inside. They might look pretty on display but it can't compare to the taste. The white vanilla ones are a true winner and even after one i kept craving more. I'm a changed person, Im officially a lover of doughnuts! I hope to to visit the actual place next time I visit, and apply an update to the review. read more

This charming shop was right around the corner from our Air BnB and we got donuts for breakfast three times in one week. We all loved the cream cheese and blueberry, dulce de leche, cream-filled, and strawberry donuts, but you probably can't go wrong with whatever you choose. I can't say I'm a big fan of donuts but Lukumas has changed that completely for me--I love their filled donuts, and the store is so cute! Only downside is the hours--ah! Half the time I crave one of their delicious donuts they are closed :( read more

Utter delight--that is what I felt when I discovered the donuts in Cafe Lukumas, Barcelona. Located on Carrer del Torrent dell 'Olla, at a short distance from my son's apartment, this tiny but cozy spot was a pleasant surprise. From the time it was first opened, and any time I visit my son, I can't help making a stop at Lukumas. No longer surprised, I happily enjoy the friendly, helpful, and professional service. The donuts are absolutely to die for, among the best in the world. I especially like the cinnamon strudel and the lemon filled chocolate glaze covered donuts. I want to try them all, but the wonderful variety makes it hard for me to choose, so each time I visit, I pamper myself to a new flavor.
