STAY AWAY!!! HARASSED AND THREATENED BY THE SALES STAFF. One star? The option of zero or no stars should be an option on Yelp especially for The Luggage Factory. My wife and I went shopping for new carry-on as they had a sale going on; 25% of certain makes, 10% on most everything, plus tax. As the luggage had original tags on it I asked the clerk how much each bag was "out the door" with the sales % AND the tax. The clerk said the 2 pieces I liked and placed on his counter, were $104 and $112 including tax. A third piece I looked at initially was $99 with the sales % and tax, but I quickly decided I did not want that third piece. I decided on the $104 piece, handed clerk my credit card, and when he gave me the sales slip, it said he charged me over $120.00. I pointed this out to him and he got very hostile/defensive. I patiently explained that he had said the piece I purchased prior to the purchase as it sat on the counter, was $104 "out the door" including sales % and taxes. He called me a "liar" and that I was mistaken for the $99 piece of luggage [which I had discarded and replaced back some 15 minutes prior to making to my choice]. His statement was errant and incorrect. I mentioned to the clerk that it seemed as though he was charging me a convenience fee for choosing "credit" instead of "debit" on my credit card option so as to cover their % payable to Visa for me using a credit card and not a debit card. I pointed out this is a violation of Cal.Civ.C.§§1747.02, 1748.1. Clerk grew angrier and was using expletives to me, as well as mimicking me in a degrading manner. The store manager came over and and did not wish to listen and even took clerks side! My wife who was outside at this point with our infant daughter, returned to the store as she heard the clerk's screaming and expletives, and vouched for my side by further explaining to the manager and to the clerk, that the clerk told us the certain bag I decided on and purchased was $104 and that the clerk told us this price, several times. Clerk was then derogatory to my wife and I then demanded a refund of the $120.17, which they would not do, threatened to call security - I got upset when they were derogatory toward my wife who was holding our child, and then the clerk shockingly said that if I wanted 'we could settle this outside", as if to say he wanted a fist fight me to determine who was correct. I again demanded my refund and by this time was yelling for the refund just to keep octave with the screaming of the clerk and by now, the manager. They called security to give themselves an alibi though it was the clerk who threatened to fight me. My wife further demanded our refund or we would go to the police and we would sue them [which we still may], for distress, unfair business practices, assault, breach, unjust enrichment, and if security came, for false imprisonment. We did not want the bag, we only wanted our money back and to leave. The manager finally relented from his ridiculous business practice of no refunds, and credited our credit card whereby my wife grabbed the refund receipt and we walked out. However, as we were exiting this vial place, the manager in some sort of last minute bravado yelled behind us that he was "throwing" us out of his store, though we were inches from the exit door. Other customers who had been inside the store and had witnessed this, expressed to us, their shock regarding the behavior of the employees, and smartly left. In my opinion, this store should not be allowed to be in business after this. Unbelievable how people can act and especially toward a family with an infant child! This company not only lost a sale out of greed, but also have now prompted me to write a negative review which I never do, due to their unprofessional, threatening, and despicable behavior. In my opinion, everyone should stay clear of this trouble. I would never think that buying luggage would be so distressing, upsetting, and confrontational, as well as an event that would involve fear for my safety and that of my family. Good riddance. read more
