Tucked away downtstairs in the pink building that also houses Se Si, Café Irie and Art Tattoos, Lucy's Lounge is a diamond in the rough. At first I couldn't find the place and actually walked out of the building. But my vintage shop-meter was beeping like crazy so I had to turn around and find it. It was worth the search, because it is awesome! Lucy's has a really excellent selection of vintage clothing, especially nice are the dresses. They also carry some more modern pieces from HM and the like, but I just ignored that and focused on the cool old stuff. There were some pretty party dresses from the 50s, 60s and 70s that could make a superb statement at your next bash. They also have gloves and hats that are pretty enough to spark a revival of tea parties. They also have a great and large selection of menswear, which a lot of vintage shops lack. In addition, stacked upon an old sink (I know, right!!) are dishes and various housewares and right in front of that was a pile of old suitcase, which I had to stop myself from buying the lot of.

Lovely underground spot. Wishing there was more up to date stuff on the men's side, but it was neat.

What we have here however is a much more slapdash and sporty collection as opposed to the more 'classic silk dresses that feature the same flower-patterned design as seen on your grandmother's old apron but in this context looks chic and unexpectedly fashionable' look found in abundance in other eminent Temple Bar vintage outlets such as Lucy's Lounge. In fact, what am I saying, Eager Beaver isn't vintage at all, it is the definitive retro retreat. In point of fact, I stand corrected again as it's not even a 'retreat' - no that's far too subtle a word - it is in truth a big, slapdash retro bonanza! Does that communicate the zealousness I feel towards this shop enough for you? Untailored, informal retro is the name of the game here with a couple of clothes racks packed solely with 70's Adidas track-suit jackets, denim jackets, Led Zeppelin tees, Stan Smith trainers, Nike 1970s Elite pumps with a sweet nylon upper, waffle sole and old school colourway and even Puma trackie bottoms - see what I mean about the large array of sportswear. Be sure to set a decent amount of time aside so as to allow for a real hardcore rummage in and amongst this collection of quality curios.

Just a little off the beaten path along Seafort Avenue, this is the secret shop D4 dandies go to for the best of Fashion Weeks past, as previously worn by Social and Personal types. Step into the back for a look at filmier gowns and frocks, but steel thyself for the prices -there's no bargain basement prices (but you will get that Chanel blouse at half it's original sale price). My first introduction to Second Avenue was on a cold spring day a few years back; as we rounded a corner on a closed up shop I wondered if we'd gone too far. A moment later the shop front appeared, blocked in by rows of Land Rovers parked right in front of the shop window. Inside there was quiet as women fanned through beautiful silks and suits hung along the wall racks. At the centre table I fell in love with a black croc clutch that I would end up going back twice to mull over bringing home. The price tag ended the would-be romance.

On offer here you can find Gucci suits, Prada handbags, Alexander McQueen jackets and John Rocha scarves, all at a fraction of the original price (though unfortunately still out of my budget!). The clothes range from vintage to last season, and most pieces would be suited for the more mature lady.
