Gosh darnit!!!! Harlequin makes me soooooo pissed. I'll tell you why: Harlequin is quite possibly one of the best vintage shops I have ever been in. It is definitely the best in Dublin in terms of the wearability of lots of the items. So many vintage shops are filled with mostly random and weird stuff with just a few stunners buried amongst the ehhh-no-so-much. But, Harlequin, well I would wear basically anything sold here in a flash. They also sell some really cool leather bags, the kind of bags you see some jerk walking down the street with andyou just know it's vintage and you'll never have it, ever. And you want to be the jerk with the purse that people hate too. Harlequin, I assure you, can get you all set up to be that jerk. Why does this place make me so angry, if it is filled with awesome clothes and accessories? Well, it happens to be the single most expensive vintage store I have ever been in in my entire life. And that's saying a lot, because I looove vintage. I agree with Laura that the transition from "used" to "vintage" is a mysterious one. Sure, you're paying for someone else to do al the legwork to find the good stuff in a world full of strange used clothes... but that's about it. I do not think that quality vintage has to be expensive as heck, in fact I know it doesn't have to be. It's disappointing that I cannot afford to buy any of the good stuff here, and I think it's a real racket too. But, if you have lots of money and feel like spending it on some really awesome vintage stuff, come here! But don't tell me about it because I will be jealous. read more

Ask any woman in Dublin and she'll tell you that Harlequin is one of the best places in the city to buy vintage clothing. Walking into the shop for the first time, you'll be amazed how much stuff is packed into the small space. Colourful dresses, stretchy belts, leather boots and frilly tops hang from racks on the walls and on the floor. Items tend to be bunched by types or by colour. You can easily spend an hour here with your head buried in clothes. Harlequin also sells great antique looking jewellery. Shiny rings with precious stones and flowery necklaces glisten behind the glass counter. Although I love coming here for unique clothes, the staff could be a little more cheery and helpful. The salespeople tend to keep to themselves. Prices as well could be cheaper. read more

Charming vintage clothing and accessories store. If you have money and a few hours to spare who knows what sort of gems you might find here? I was quite impressed with their collection of leather bags and satchels. Very nice, and very 'in' at the moment, but don't be thinking that because these bizzos are second-hand they'll have a tiny pricetag. Expect to pay around 30 to 40 euros for a decent bag in top condition. There is a whole section of men's clothing on the basement level, so although from the outside this may look like a women's store, fellas - be sure to get yourselves down there for a spot of vintage shopping. Upstairs they have more of the same and a rack of clothing that's reduced (prices from around 10 euro). Nothing much on the sale rack was worth buying, in my opinion, but I don't profess to be the queen of style or forward fashion, so have a look for yourself! Not the sort of place you'd shop for a crazy party outfit (unless you're loaded with cash) but definitely a place to nab some cute, one-off treasures to keep in your wardrobe forever. read more

Celebs love this place and stylists for 'top Irish fashion show' are always in here searching out vintage 'finds'. As for me I haven't got a club about fashion or vintage and what not so what draws me to this shop of delights is the funky one of a kind coats, hats, bags and belts. They are old school and originals and as a result very good quality, excellent stitching, real fabrics and will last another life time. The shoes here are great too, if you can find them in your size. I think feet have expanded along with waist lines in the last generation as I struggle to find vintage shoes in my monstrous size 7! The staff here are lovely and will hold things for you and you can make them an offer on items too, but just remember this is not your Costa del Sol market and don't haggle! I was disgusted by this establishment. I tried on a women's fur coat (I'm a man) and the shop owner immediately forced me to take it off, saying that this wasn't a "freak show". This woman lost our business and our respect; I advise anyone to boycott this shop if you stand against bigotry. Last time I checked, wearing a women's coat doesn't make you a freak, yet the owner of this establishment kicked us out of her shop for it. The saddest part? There was nothing remarkable about any the clothes that set the Harlequin apart from any of the other countless vintage stores in Dublin. Half the items didn't even have listed prices, and the owner literally made up prices on the spot when my friend asked about an item. Harlequin is the best vintage shop in Dublin. I was taking part in a fashion show a few years ago and we used Harlequin for on e of the scenes and I absolutely fell in love with the dress I wore. Sadly for me it had to be returned and I went back to try and but it but it was gone Just everything in there is so cool - leather jackets, vintage belts/bags, old school tea dresses, cool jeans for guys and retro band tees...Everything's great! If you're in to vintage, and like a good rummage, then this is far and away the place for you. If you're not, don't bother. Those of you with a real eye for fashion will be in heaven, but those who just can't figure out how an outfit should look, no matter how hard you try, this place can be a bit of a nightmare - vintage is a tough look to carry off. A bit on the pricey side, but I'm told that's what you pay for good vintage. When second-hand becomes vintage I'm yet to discover however...why do people refuse to pay more than €5 for second hand, yet will spend 100 times that on vintage? Anyone? Anyway, you can definitely find some gems in here, if you're lucky, look hard enough, or are a vintage fashionista. Unfortunately, I'm a lazy shopper, can never find what I want, and vintage makes me look like I'm wearing stuff belonging to my granny (and not in a good way...granny chic...not a good look for me!) I've bought from this store occasionally. I like the vibe and the staff. The vintage styles are sometimes brilliant, fun and awe inspiring, they have a lot of misses too. The women's section is cool, full of bright, vibrant dress ideas as well as earth toned long jackets, cool accessories and fun hats. The mens section is a bit hard to navigate. It's hard to find too. There are lots of childish or downright bizarre items on sale down there, like patchy old leather jackets or used Real Madrid Jerseys. Very strange and old shoes, placed formally next to a mirror giving the impression that people have died in them. I feel like this shop isn't really a place where Jimi Hendrix or Phil Lynott would shop but more like a place where teenagers would go to marvel at our grandparents' fashion mistakes. read more

Dublin's very own time capsule; I sashayed in pink taffeta from the 20's, twirled in fur from the fifties and searched in vain to find a hat big enough to contain my bouffant! In the end I settled for a vintage Christmas sweater (we're talking reindeer and snow flakes) for just €29! This place has my vote any day of the week. Rude staff. Me and teo friends went in today and were admiring the range of clothes, bowties and hats. I tried on a head bandana and the shop assistant (or owner?) "informed me" meaning shouting from the other end of the shop "Are you going to buy that? Because you can't just try on stuff". I said sorry I didn't realise that was the case but she didn't even let me finish my sentence, cut me off and borderline agressively kept going on about how can I not try on stuff. T hough their range is admittedly broader than many other Dublin vintage shops, they price items through the roof. I absolutely love this store. I shop here mainly for jackets but they do some lovely bags and jewellery too. It's not cheap though. Having said that they always have bargains upstairs if you're in the mood for a bit of rooting. I bought a fab leather jacket here this time last year and it was only €20. There's nothing wrong with it so I don't know why it was on sale. I find that a lot of the sale stuff is pretty damaged and the price is slashed for that reason. But not my prized leather jacket!
