Sad that they are no longer a panaderia.. was looking forward to some conchas but instead had the menudo and was not disappointed! I loved it, flavorful and in a big bowl. Spices were all there!

Yeah..... I'm gonna be spending a lot of money here. First off, you walk in and the smell of fresh baked bread hits you in the face and welcomes you inside. That's always a good sign when walking into any bakery place. You come in, grab a tray/tongs ... And then you pick one of everything. Even when you are using tongs to grab the breads, you can feel how soft each item is. Which is bad for me.... Cause I grabbed even more. I love how the empanadas are separate and labled. I'm a pumpkin empanada girl, and man I loved these!!!! I hate when people make the pumpkin too sweet. Leave it alone, it's got a good amount of sweetness. These ones are perfect! I also got one each of the other flavors. So far, all amazing. Last but not least, I grabbed a tres Leches to go. Holy cow It was so good. I added the only pic I could get after we started eating but before it was gone. Conchas never made it home to be eat with a cup of good coffee.

Tres leches cake and pan dulce

Lucy's is a hidden gem. The bread was so good and my kids had a blast picking out baked treats for only 50 cents a piece. We also had them make my daughter's birthday cake. She had been wanting tres leches cake so bad since we moved to Texas. The cake was delicious and beautifully decorated!

What a great find!! I needed cake... not for an event or any noble reason. I just had a disapointing lunch and wanted to treat my taste buds to something good. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday afternoon so none of the places that came to mind were open. Luckily I used Yelp's 'open now' function to discover two panaderías that were open. This one was the closest and we headed straight there. This panadería (bakery) is located on the east side of McKinney from the intersection of 288. They are a small place with no seating. You enter to a counter on your left and a coffee station on your right. The counter displays some of the more expensive items like the Tres Leches cake I got for $3. Straight ahead is a series of display cabinets with treats ranging from 50 cents to $1. To the right of those cabinets is a display with so many fresh loaves of bread! As someone was coming from the back to put out more fresh bread, I asked about the process and on the bread display is where you start. There are three sized trays (small, medium, large) and tongs. Serve yourself to your heart or trays content and then pay at the register. They will load everything into a plastic bag, charge you very little and you can go home with your treasures. I asked the woman about a sweet bread I couldn't identify and I was offered a sample. A gentleman came around the corner with a spoonful of a sweet cream that wasn't overly sweet and really fresh and I was sold. I tried a little of a lot of things. There is a huge variety from cornbread muffins and plain pastries to sweet breads to empanadas to frosted sheet cake. Something for every level of sweet tooth! I was so impressed with the tastiness of what I left with that I can't wait to go back and get a loaf of bread and some other goodies. My favorite had to be the simplicity of the cornbread muffin. The tray had plain and sprinkles. I also really liked the apple empanada. I was surprised to see a cheese Danish next to the sweet breads so I also tried that. Since I came for cake, I grabbed a piece of yellow cake with pink frosting and sprinkles. It was on top of a new layer so I grabbed it knowing it was an older batch and it was a little stale but hit the spot in the sugar department. The sweet bread was my second favorite, followed by the tres leches. This is a family owned business and most items are labeled, but labeled in Spanish. My Spanish isn't great, so I chose with my eyes. I doubt anything offered here is gluten free but I also don't know how to ask that in Spanish. So keep in mind that this isn't a café but a family owned bakery where you choose your items and go. There may not be anyone up front because they are working in the back, call out if you need them before they come to fill a display. If you get two items you don't want touching due to toppings I'm sure they will put them in separate bags. I absolutely think they are 5 stars for this style of business. I found the experience very enjoyable. I couldn't believe what a steal this was. I got a bunch of stuff for $5.50 (keep in mind one was the $3 cake I mentioned earlier) and I have got to get back there to sample more. I can't believe I have lived in Denton for so long and had no idea they were here! They better watch out, they just earned themselves a regular with a sweet tooth! :)

Lucy, you have some splaining to do! How do you have such a wonderful little shop and I have not know about it? First of all. let's talk about your prices. I am still in disbelief over how inexpensive all your delectable goodies are. Most other bakeries are three times the price of your sweet treats. At 50 cents each, I feel that I am going to be putting on some unwanted pounds before summer. Even your higher priced items at $3 are a steal because of the size and quantity. We bought a bag full of deliciousness for only $3 and I felt kinda bad that I didn't pay more. My kids are going to love visiting. Next, what a smorgasbord of a selection you have! So many delightful types of pastries. Many are fruit filled, cream filled, dipped in sugar, covered in sprinkles, and many just simple sweet breads. You sell fantastic cookies, tarts, churros, breads, and everything that can be thought of. Finally, I really appreciate your quaint, little store. It's not flashy or fancy in any way. I love the idea of simply getting a tray and filling it with as many items as you can possibly handle. Staff is super friendly and will help with whatever is needed. Anyone who has not been through your front door, needs to pay you a visit soon and often. We will be bask again post haste!

Ok so obviously I'm the only one to not give a 5 star review, but there was MOLD on my tres leches. I also got a cuerno and concha and both were ok, a little on the dry side. I know times are tough but how long was the cake sitting there that it grew mold and in a refrigerated case too? Sad I wasted $6 and disappointed to not get delicious pan dulce. I'm all for supporting small business so I'll try again when things are more normal, but definitely did not live up to the hype this time.

The Pan Dulce is the best in Denton! It is so fresh and the variety is insane. They also have a variety of breads that are not sweet.

The flavor of the concha was really good. But I was disappointed in the selection. There's really not a huge variety.

I called ahead to have a birthday cake made and once picked up of course my wife's name was spelled…read moreincorrectly. The quality of customer care has really gone downhill here. I wish that wasn't the case but I'll not be back. It seems like such a simple thing to double check the spelling when you write anything on a cake. How are you still in business yet you don't seem to care about the quality of your craft? Edit: and we cut into the cake tonight and it's not even what I ordered hahaha. Ridiculous! I ordered a German Chocolate Cake but received a chocolate cake with fudge icing. I should have suspected something was about to go wrong when I had to coach the girl who took my order that I wanted German Chocolate when she asked what kind of icing I needed. Either she doesn't know or doesn't care. When I called today they wouldn't give me a discount for the name misspelling and I didn't even know we would have even more problems. Candy Haven, you should take more care with what you make and treat your customers better.

Amazing experience from initial contact through pick up. Dream cake for my 30th birthday…read more Effective communication with a custom design, the most moist & delicious cake EVER (I am extremely picky). Will be returning. Had vanilla (white chocolate) & buttercream frosting. you will be quoted the price ahead of time. If you want a cheap cake, DONT come here. THE PRICE IS REFLECTIVE IN THE QUALITY (of the art & taste).
