If I could give it zero stars I would. After it was open for a while we visited the LA Downs location. It took forever to get waited. It was not busy and numerous employees were walking around like they had nothing to do. We finally had to ask if there would be someone serving on our table. We thought maybe it was just a bad night so we waited a while and gave it another try but nothing seemed any different. The food was less than adequate, there was a weird odor in the restaurant and for some reason a lady sitting at a table in the front stared at us the entire time. This place just opened up and the restaurant is a little bit pass the pizza place and has a large red Asian door you can not miss. Just open the door and you are there. The lunch special prices are at a good price, but specialties can be expensive. The service was pretty good, but then again it was not busy at the restaurant. Lucky Palace Chinese Restaurant presents itself as a sketchy hole in the wall. Located inside the motel, on the other side of the lobby. I've tried to go on Monday and they're closed. Holidays too. So check out the hours. I've recently tried dine in and delivery. The delivery order (08/2023) took about 35 minutes and cost $36 with tip. I got the Beef with vegetables add jalapeño. Fried rice, wonton, and egg rolls. The fried wonton were chewy, so I recommend steamed. Everything else was fantastic. Used to live in this area and Lucky Palace was my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant. Was visiting an ordered delivery through DoorDash. DoorDash was great. Food was great. But was delivered with no plate and no utensils to eat with. Had to go and find paper plates and plastic wear to be able to eat. read more

Tried the new location of Lucky Palace, now that Kuan Lim has passed. The move to the Louisiana Downs is a better location than the original, as it seems MUCH less of a sketchy area. In all fairness to the new owner, Holly Lim, I visited when the restaurant had two HUGE tables, so clearly large parties, for lunch. I like the new logo for the restaurant, it fits with the simple but classy theme. My mom and I had a few appetizers, and then shared one of the house specials. Service was a little slow, but again, I saw the two HUGE tables and was giving the benefit of the doubt, as I could see the small amount of staff was completely swamped. We were taken care of with drinks by the lovely woman who sat us (so sorry, I didn't catch her name). Our wine was delivered by the only male presenting individual working, and we loved the chardonnay. Christie delivered our appetizers, the truffle chicken wings and salt and pepper soft shell crab. The truffle chicken wings were delicious, full of flavor and very crunchy. The salt and pepper soft shell crab had one piece that was significantly fattier than the others, and it wasn't as pleasant, but overall still very good. But the salt and pepper trio- OMG, absolutely delicious! I cannot recommend their house specials enough! The scallops we got were tender, well cooked, and the breading was perfectly crisp. The shrimp was also fantastic, and again, that light breading on them complemented them well- I was also very glad they were de-veined, and butterflied, as it helped avoid parts being too thick to truly enjoy the subtle flavor. Lastly, the squid/calamari pieces were a wonderful rounding out of the trio. My only complaint was that we said we were splitting the meal, and would have preferred to get two of the small bowls of rice, but Christie fixed that quickly- service (while sparse because of the large tables needing attention) was excellent. I was glad to see the many nods to the memory of Lim around as well; I'd forgotten his write up in the New York Times, so I was excited to see that and sat down to read it in an empty chair nearby. We used to visit often, and I was glad to see that many of the original recipes survived, as well as loving memories kept around. I too wish I could just make a living drinking wine, Mr. Kuan. The wine selection cannot be beat! The house specialties are not going to be dishes that many may have heard of, but none of them are bad. Pricing on the lunch specials are still great, unsure if the new location does delivery like the old one did, but I used to order this for work quite often- usually from the lunch specials that were more of the things traditionally found on more Chinese food places people are used to. Do not hold the waiting against them if there are larger groups in the restaurant when one arrives. Oh my how this place has gone downhill. When they were in their old location, with the old owners, the food was better, the people who worked there were better, and they cared about their customers. Those days are gone. The new location stinks (I'm not just talking metaphorical), the food is sub par, and the staff isn't really that bad except for a blonde that works in there. Don't know names, but she is the one that looks like a life of bad decisions and will lie to you when the truth is a better story. Long story short, when packing up my wife & I to go plates, the tray fell & sauce went all over my leg. Nobody offered me anything to clean my leg and shoes. When I went back in to ask for a towel to clean up with, I was handed 2 napkins, told they were sorry, & then the blonde stepped in with her lies. Do yourself a favor, avoid this place. What used to be a "secret" bossier legendary establishment has fallen off since moving to Louisiana downs from its' old location. My family and I went there tonight, wanting to allow it time to work out the kinks of their new location, which is what their press release asked. Items ordered: One cup hot sour soup, salt and pepper shrimp, general tso chicken, orange chicken, beef and broccoli (to go). After 50 minutes all of this came out at the same time. Including the soup and to go item. Waiter started off great, then we barely saw her after that. At the end of the meal we waited for 12 minutes for a to go box before going to ask someone for it. When asked if we enjoyed our meal, I told the girl checking us out that I think they still have some growing pains to deal with, to which she asked me if we disliked it so much that we wouldn't be coming back? I responded with no, which is true, and she seemed like that was good enough. I did not want a discount or anything, but at least care that I had a bad experience. read more

Went there recently--had been to the old location many times (over 10 years) for dinner, socialized with Lem, etc. All was 5 star. Now, got there at 6:30 on a Friday night. Barely half full. Many servers running around, but took forever to get to our table. Drinks were in a glass only slight larger than an oversized shot glass. $11 for a single shot mixed drink, $22 for a double. It took 45 min to get our appetizer and another 45 after that for our dinner. The food is not what is was in the past. Chicken tasted like roadkill--having been frozen for a long time I'm sure. Sauces were not the same. They ran out of a common brand of bourbon. We couldn't tell who our server was because 5 or 6 different people would come by the table to pour water, bring drinks, serve food. Then it took forever to get our check. We were there for 3.5 hrs. Not by our choice of eating slowly. We were a victim of their new management, chef, location, and price hikes. I'm sorry to post such a horrible review, but I don't want anyone else to end up paying $130 for two like I did, and get subpar food and service. I'm afraid it is their time to close down--happens a lot to good restaurants when they change hands and location. I'm sure some of the good reviews are made by employees. So there you have it---It is not worth the drive, money, energy expended to dine there. Finally tried the new location inside Louisiana Downs tonight. We haven't been to the original one in at least 6 years, so I was excited to rediscover this place. We called to make a reservation. We arrived at our scheduled time and the hostess (or server maybe?) barely greeted us. Other servers were there but everyone seemed busy/hectic and no one was paying us much attention. Took a minute for them to even find our reservation and take us to our table. They took our drink order and appetizer order pretty fast - but the apps took about 30 mins to get to us. We were famished by that point. Only one of our drinks was refilled in that time frame, even though several other glasses were also empty. We had the steamed dumplings for one of the appetizers and they were the worst dumplings I've ever had. The dough was SO thick and slimey and mushy, barely any filling. I couldn't finish mine. I was yearning for the dumplings at Imperial Cathay the entire time. The soft shell crab was tasty. The entrees were fine - but nothing I'll ever remember. We had the General Tso Chicken, Shrimp Lo Mein, Crispy Duck, and Pepper Beef. Our food took forever to get to us - seriously about 50mins. And worst of all, the kitchen is SO far away from the dining room, I could see all the servers running back and forth as quick as they could, but ultimately all the food was lukewarm when we got it. Well they say location, location, location, but for this place, throw that out the window. It's located inside somewhere that Sam and Dean would be staying as they exercise demons. Once you get past that, the inside of the restaurant is pretty cute. We may have gotten up a few times to check on the car. From a good perspective, they are doing a fine job! As others have said, the wine list is extensive, and may be the reason we were doing a bit of day drinking. The hot and sour soup was delish, and the Mongolian beef was probably some of the most tender I've had. We also had the general tso's chicken. Flavor was good, and not unlike what I've had in good Dallas Chinese restaurants. The chicken was not chewy, and all the pieces were premium. Really excited about the new location in the Racetrack Casino! I haven't been in years because the old location was not in a good area. The service was good and the food was good. It is very dark in the restaurant and we're advised to make reservations for a Thursday night, which is odd for Bossier. My favorite Chinese food is still Imperial Cathay but would do Lucky Palace again since it is so much closer for me. read more

Not a fan honestly. I have heard so many great things about this place. I found it to be very underwhelming. First off, it is located in a super seedy motel off I-20. Looks like you are walking into a drug deal or strip club. The interior of the restaurant is a little better. But not much. The service was atrocious. The server could have cared less if we were there. She basically rolled her eyes at every question or request. My friends are very easy to please mind you, but we felt like a burden to her. She didn't return for 10-15 minutes at a time, so we were there for quite a while, and hungry. It takes a while to get your food, so be prepared for that. Food was way too salty for my liking. Portion sizes are good though. You have to ask for additional sauces that most people would like. I like the lazy Susan in the middle of the table though! I don't think I will return even when they move into the new place. It just is not my jam. read more

Fantastic. Had the north style duck and the sea bass + Chianti. Recommend the Thai basil sauce. Mind blowing good flavor and texture on the sea bass - perfect. Vibes and ambiance are A++++; a unique experience - a sketchy facade that leads to a dimly lit, well furnished, old school classy cave with aquariums and other fun decor. Decided to give this restaurant a second chance after moving from the original location where I had to step over crack addicts on the side walk to now being located in a casino. The service is none existent as we did not even know who our server was as there was constantly a different person that kept coming to our table. Took 25 minutes to get our drinks where a young female complained to us that we caused her to have to change out the syrup for the Dr. Pepper dispenser. The food that was brought out would have failed a health inspection as it was cold. This establishment needs to be shut down before someone dies from botulism due to their poor unsanitary food handling. read more

My main dish was tasty, but served luke-warm with a small bowl of dry, plain fried rice. My server was okay until the end. I paid cash and when she returned with the change, I asked her to bring me the check. Instead of doing that, she reminded me of the amount I gave her and the total bill, but never brought the check. This place came highly recommended by a local group of doctors. I was forewarned that the location - inside a "sketchy" motel, as it was explained - may seem unappealing, but that this was a true gem to discover. And quite frankly, they were absolutely correct. Upon walking into the restaurant - which you get into by walking through the lobby, no need to walk around the hotel looking for a direct entrance, as we did! - you are instantly in a new environment. You see several wine racks, a testament to their accolade as a James Beard semifinalist status for their extensive wine list. We were told the duck and scallion pancakes were not to be missed. I'm inclined to agree, but I would like to add one thing: the duck is not to be missed, period. They manage to get the skin to be perfectly crispy, but the meat itself is flavorful and juicy. Truly a wonderful meal, and I'm almost certain the best duck I've ever had. High praise, right? My group split approximately a bajillion appetizers and did a family-style meal. Worth noting: Chilean Sea Bass is delicious, and the plating is quite visually appealing. A close friend recommended "any dish in garlic sauce", and my shrimp + scallops in garlic sauce (a custom order; you can ask to combine the two, though you may be asked how many dollars worth of shrimp you'd like) was quite tasty. We had a smorgasbord of other items, including the Singapore noodle (super spicy, but tasty), curry chicken, coconut shrimp, and I can't even remember what all else. Tl;dr -- this place is fantastic. This place is stuck inside a sketchy motel with a parking lot full of more potholes than parking spaces. The restaurant itself is dark and uninviting, but I convinced myself that it would be worth it because I had been told the food was very good. Well, we never got to try the food because we gave up after waiting for a very long time. To make it worse, the single server was much more interested in visiting with her friends at another table than checking on anyone else or attempting to see where our food was. This place lives up to the hype. It is the best wine list between Dallas and Atlanta and spectacular Chinese-American comfort food. The people are so nice. It is also in a very seedy motel, do not be off-put. The place is clean and pleasant inside. We enjoyed Mongolian chicken and the famous northern duck with steam buns, which was amazing. Favorites: - Fried Chilean Sea Bass - hands down, by far, my favorite. Crispy, flaky, flavorful, just everything about it is amazing. - Mongolian Duck - we asked for it non-spicy and it delivered as such. Definitely rich in flavor, I'm going to assume that maybe they used oyster sauce as their base. Cons: - The service was sooooo slow. There were a few tables but not that many. We were starving by the time our food showed up. I ordered a glass of wine and it didn't come until much much later. When we first walked in, it took awhile just for us to get seated. Sorry, this review is solely based on the experience I had here when I was younger. When I was little, my family used to live in this sketchy motel. We frequented this restaurant often and I was absolutely enamored by the sizzling crispy delight. Plump, crispy shrimp and scallops served in a decadent sauce on top of a sizzling platter that I've been looking for elsewhere for the past 15 years or so. I live in Houston now which has an abundance of Asian food, but I still remember and think about the crispy shrimp and scallops that was in this dish. That's why I was overjoyed to find this place again after searching on google maps with nothing else to guide me but my memories. Worst Over-priced unauthentic Chinese food I've had, & now a stomach ache too. Don't bother

First of all, the food was 12/10. Top notch, and amazing. Can't say enough good things about the food. The location is very sketch, inside a run down hotel that smells of sewage. The air conditioning didn't work, and it was hot and humid in the restaurant. The service was so slow and so bad. I had to ask three times for a drink refill.
