This place is fairly decent all-in-all. The staff is great. However, the dog park and bar can have issues. Some people that frequent the spot, let their dogs become aggressive and don't curb or police them. Others , are blindly yapping away when their animal is pissing and crapping in the play area and fail to clean it up like you are supposed to like us responsible owners do. Most people are friendly but, it is mainly for more than one person. They have TV's but, there is so much activity where they are located that it is hard to focus. If you are alone it can be boring except for the fact your dog is enjoying it (which I guess is the point!) The bar used to be hit or miss but has improved. While a I know this isn't a place you should be going to get tipsy even , I mean I get it , it's a dog park but when I have ordered a shot or two of whiskey with my beer , I was really ripped off more than a couple times by two specific people. The bar manager is great and I think she corrected the light pours, which is great because the alcohol there isn't cheap. I'm not ragging on the bartenders though - all of them are nice and polite. I have only limited experience with the Doggy Daycare and while I don't know what actually goes on back 'there' my dog seemed to be happy when picked up. I will say one of the young ladies who normally checks me in young, with mid-length blonde hair was not very friendly. It was like 8AM and it's Doggy Day Care and isn't cheap , probably be a bit friendlier to the customers. Other than that , it's a decent place to enjoy an afternoon with a beer, or not, while your pup plays and socializes with other dogs. Just picked my dog up from a boarding stay and was so excited cause it looked like he had a bath. However, no, he had piss all over him! He smelled like pee, he had pee all over him!! This is WAS my go to spot to take my dog and now I'm done. I feel like they have just gotten worse and worse over the years. You will request report cards and you get nothing! No communication with your dog being there with them while you are traveling. If you are looking for a place to board your dog go somewhere else! read more

DO NOT BOARD AT LUCKY DOG! The dogs are most definitely not lucky when they're here. Our two dogs have come home covered in pee multiple times. When we dug further into it we found out they were NOT caring for our dogs. They have only 2 handlers for upwards of 100 dogs. One of our dogs came home with a huge gash on his face and they didn't catch it, or report it to us. They come home anxious every boarding visit. When we dug further we found out that one of our dogs was so anxious she was chewing on a cot (she doesn't chew things at home, or any other boarding place we've ever used.) Instead of telling us, they just made a note in their system that she doesn't get a cot... We asked them to kennel together and so both of our dogs were sleeping on cold hard tile floor for their entire stays, sometimes as long as a week or two when we've taken longer trips. Instead of taking any responsibility for any of this they blamed our dogs. Their manager confirmed to me they don't require handlers have ANY certifications or qualifications. I asked for a GM or assistant GM to get in touch with me about whether they even do background checks and they are ignoring us. Lucky Dog used to be great when they were family owned. Roughly around 2022 they were bought out by a corporation called Village Pet and it's clear they are trying to suck as much profit out of the business while they can. They've raised their rates and cut down on the staff. In NC handlers can only have 10 dogs out per handler so your pets are NOT getting as much attention or outside time as they should be. This place is the worst. We have 4 friends that also used Lucky Dog and after hearing what was happening they're also finding another boarding place. We'll be telling anyone who will listen to ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOGS HERE. read more

We used to go to Lucky Dog every Tuesday night for the Beer and a Bath Promotion. Over the past six months, there's been a steady decline in the experience at Lucky Dog. There are progressively more and more dogs who behave in an aggressive manner, and management does not always intervene. Last night was the breaking point -- a six-month-old black puppy was behaving highly aggressively with the two dogs we brought (we invited a family member and his dog to join us there). The pet owner encouraged his dog by petting the dog while it was behaving aggressively towards our dog. We deemed the situation to be unsafe. Our family member left with his dog, at which point our dog was finally taken in for his bath. Plus, the groomer Destiny and the bartender Patrick have both left. So, this is the end of our time with Lucky Dog. Customers and dog parents, beware. read more

The concept is great. Let your dog play while you play! I have never seen anything like it, so I was eager to check it out. Our husky craves play and social interaction and my SO likes beer. Win win! We arrived after 1pm on a Sunday. The parking lot is huge. A friendly staff member welcomed us and gave us a quick rundown on their facility and services. In addition to having a pet friendly full bar, they also offer daycare, overnight boarding and baths 7 days a week. It's free to bring your dog and take advantage of the indoor and two outdoor dog play areas. Their prices for grooming and boarding are very reasonable. We stayed in one of the outdoor dog parks, near the bar. The place was pretty busy, and it looked like the majority of the customers were on that side. They have flat screen TVs all around and music through the speakers. They provide dog bowls with water, poop bags all around the park, mops, and plenty of tables and seating. The bar sitting area is also heated. Lucky Dog does not however, prepare food onsite for the humans. They only serve complimentary pretzels and mustard. Humans are free to order from places that deliver or bring their own as long as they are in take out containers. I saw customers with Jersey Mike's sandwiches, but most of the pet owners were just there to drink and hang out. The bar had a menu for Prosciutto's Pizzeria & Pub. The bar called in my order for me and had it delivered. It arrived in less than 40 minutes. I have to admit, I felt a little weird eating at a dog park, especially with the thought of dog poo and pee around me. Overall good experience. The SO was a bit disappointed they didn't have nitro beers, but still found a beer he enjoyed. Like most pet establishments, you immediately get a whiff of dog poop and/or pet odor when you walk in. The place was clean, though and the pet owners were pretty good about cleaning up after their pets. The staff was friendly and so were the dogs. Our husky had a blast! read more

I had to find a new place to relax and have a couple drinks. New Management is ruining this place. Constantly understaffed and employees are not treated well. Most of the existing employees are gone. Bar area is nasty. Some people do not clean up after their dogs and staff doesn't clean up either. It was so nasty that I went home and left my shoes outside because they stunk like dog urine. It pains me to write this review because I have loved going to this place over the past 5 years. The past three visits at this place have gotten worse and worse. The outside area on the bar side has been absolutely disgusting covered in pee and poop and nothing has been washed. The same poop in the corner has been there for 2 weeks. The inside lobby and bar has fallen into shambles and has a smell that is far from clean. My wife and I left this place today and immediately had to shower when we got home. I am beyond disappointed, if the owners would like to sell this place to someone who cares please reach out because this place has gone way down hill. After almost 2 years of regularly boarding here we will be finding a new option. We picked up our dog this week after a 6-day stay and we received several bags of her food back, we were told they were "short staffed" and may have missed a feeding during her stay. It turns out she missed 2 FULL DAYS of feedings (4 meals) over the 6 days, and was underweight to the point her ribs were significantly exposed, and she lost 25% of her body weight. They also billed us for the full amount of the stay. We have heard of others having poor experiences recently as well. 2 stars because the regular staff is usually very good, but it appears staffing issues have created problems with their boarding recently. UPDATE: we heard from management and they apologized and took responsibility for the issue, and we received a full refund. read more

We are LOYAL Lucky Dog Cornelius customers for the last 2 years since we moved into the area. Management at the bar has changed a handful of times, concepts are started and stopped, and staff come and go. We hear about renovations that never happen, which is very disappointing but it is what it is. We love to come here no matter what so that our boys can socialize and we can enjoy a drink. Over the last 6 months we have gotten to know the bartender Molly, and have felt so welcome and taken care of by her. She is the nicest person I have met in a very long time and she genuinely loves the dogs and people. Just the other day we heard that she was let go from the bar due to the poor actions of a patron who was basically harassing her and we are deeply troubled by managements decision based on this. The bar literally has two employees and she was one of them. We have been there days before Molly and Brandon started where they couldn't even open because people wouldn't show up to work. Molly has pumped new ideas to management and taken time before and after shifts to make the place as clean and welcome as she can given what she has to work with. We love Brandon as well, but it will be hard for us to want to return given the mistreatment that Molly suffered at the hands of this place. If they truly cared, they would address this with the employee and allow her another opportunity to do the job. Lucky Dog, please value the hard working loyal employees you actually have and along those same lines, do something on the bar side so that you attract more patrons and maybe some staff that you won't fire. We want this place to succeed but it feels like whoever owns and operates the chain does not seem to care about the employees, the conditions of the property, or the animals. read more

I so miss this place desperately since I've moved out of state. My rating is strictly for the bar/patio aspect as I never took my dog for boarding or day care. As a single dog mom, it was incredibly hard for me to continuously socialize and take care of my dog. I loved going here Wednesday's ($5 select pints) and Thursday's (trivia & $5 wells). My dog became a regular and so did I and the community of people and staff were so welcoming and super friendly with my dog. Most dog owners would pay attention to their dogs, especially if a fight broke out (which was incredibly rare.) they have plenty of water bowls and lots of drink Options. The inside area does smell a bit, so I always enjoyed the patio, even when it was cold outside as they had heaters and patio closures. My dog loved play time and made many friends when I took him here. It allowed me to socialize with fellow dog parents and gave me something to look forward to with my dog during the week so I didn't feel guilty for leaving him alone while I was working. LOVE the lake location. Only issue as previously mentioned is that the inside smells a bit. Owners just watch your dog if it's their first time, even if they are super friendly. New environments abound always be tested before hand! read more

The bar here is amazing! Being able to bring my dog to hang out with friends barside is awesome and the bar staff is super friendly and helpful. That being said, unfortunately, every single time I have dropped my dog off for daycare, she comes home reeking of urine. I have asked my dog to be quickly rinsed off to try to get rid of the smell and been refused, and did not even receive any type of apology for the smell. I used to work at this location and things have gone downhill since in terms of management. Sadly nobody is supervising the smaller dogs when they are out to play, and that's why some leave smelling disgusting, because nobody is around to clean up the pee or poop. Makes me very sad since I am now looking at other daycare options for my pup! 5 stars for the bar, 2 stars for the daycare, at least if you have a smaller dog like I do. read more

What a concept. I just love the place and its nice to be able to go out and bring your pets. The food truck Friday is amazing but would like to see more vendors. I might like to see more tables in the outdoor area and make it a rule that people cannot hold tables. I have been there about 4 times where we wanted to just sit and eat and someone just left a leash on a table to hold it and then left for more than 40 minutes. If you have a table sit at it or don't hold it. Leave it for the patrons who are eating. But the staff is nice and friendly. It might use to more lighting in the indoor dog area but other than that, I like it very very much read more

Boarding service - Had my dogs boarded this past week, filled out the form specifying they need a full bath and I'd be picking them up at 4pm the last day, but when I got there at 3:50pm the dogs had not been bathed because they thought I was picking them up at 8pm?? They also put the dogs blankets in the wash and asked me to come back in a few hrs to let them finish. Came back a 7:30pm, they never put them in the dryer. Also the whole time I was away I tried getting added to the lucky dog Facebook page to get video access to see my dogs, no one ever approved my request to join the group, even after messaging one of the moderators(they didn't even respond). If you're going to claim you can view your dog while you're away, it should actually be accessible. I've boarded my pets there several times over the past 5 or 6 years, it's been a noticeable drop in quality of service the past year or so. read more

Have been coming for years but they have been experiencing growing pains since being bought out. The regional manager specifically is a bit stuck up and cocky. She projects as though she's being helpful but you can tell, she really has no idea what she's doing. The few times i've encountered her she's a total control freak; which is odd considering she can't seem to differentiate her ass from her head. This also makes me nervous for the company considering the entire og staffing has seemingly disappeared. Very disappointed the only familiar face around there anymore is Charlie. This place will not operate the same ever again without that original team. Have a feeling that "RM"is gonna sink the ship faster than she can get it up and running again. read more

This place is the best idea ever. You can hang out and drink beer while your pup runs around and plays. There is a covered outside area, open outdoor space, and an indoor play area. They also offer other dog services like doggy day care and baths. Most owners here are considerate and keep an eye on their dog's behavior. Their beer selection is excellent, with several craft beers as well as the usual offerings. Servers here are friendly and efficient. We walked in a little confused not going to lie, and a friendly bartender came up to us and said it's a dog bar! Being from New York you don't have these places (or they are very few of them) so they said they don't serve food but they have a food truck conveniently right outside (we ordered a burger and chicken fingers). I started out going here for the dog bar. I enjoyed allowing my dog time for play while I had a beer and socialized. The dog parents are very friendly and are good at watching their dogs. Small and large dogs all hang out together. Later I took my dog for daycare, a night of boarding and also grooming. The staff are very friendly and have their own dogs which always endears staff to me since they enjoy & understand dogs. They also let their own dogs hang out here so you know it's a safe place. They were very good to my little one. She came out of being groomed with a cute little bandana. Prices are very reasonable. I had no problems. read more

If I could give them zero or negative stars, I would. We were there for probably 2 minutes total, and they're outdoor dog Park area was very congested, and overrun with both dogs and people. It was not a safe environment for people, or their pets. Two dogs were stepped on in the time of 2 minutes, one sounded like it really hurt. I'm never going to take my pet there again, and I would recommend others to do the same. read more

I absolutely loved this place! I brought my dog here for the first time and he was a bit overwhelmed. They have separate areas for different sized dogs and an area you can just let them all run free. My dog never got to that point because he's a scared little baby.. for now. They have toys and collars you can buy! I'll definitely be back. The drink list is super cute too. read more

Love this place! So glad to have a place in LKN where we can bring our dogs and just relax with nice people. We have been to Lucky Dog several times and never had a problem with our dogs being told to quiet down, or anything of the sort. The hotel is actually two doors down, and even when we have been in the outside area there is very minimal, if any, noise. Most folks who come have well-behaved dogs and we have yet to see any sort of fight or incident. The place is clean and there is plenty of room for the dogs to play indoors or outdoors while you just chill out and watch pretty much any game on the multitude of TVs. As long as you don't expect plush velvet couches and can have a good time socializing at picnic and high bar tables, you'll have a great time. We really enjoy the outdoor patio area, because it's covered and even in warmer weather stays a little cooler thanks to the shade. As long as your dog isn't a jerk and you aren't expecting frills and luxury, you'll have a great time. Keep up the good work, Lucky Dog! read more

We cannot say enough about the good people and love that our dog Brewster gets here. He, who is otherwise attached at our hips, leaps out of the car to get to play and stay here. We often joke we don't know what they let him do here (stay up late to watch TV, drink beer, no curfew, etc.) but we are happy because he is happy. We live in Durham yet often make the trip to Charlotte to board him here. They treat the dogs so well. read more

Since moving here from CA I was nervous to find a new place for my pups. I had heard a lot of good things about this place And thought I would give it a try. I took the pups in for just a shampoo, it was very reasonable in price for everything they do. Not only do they get a shampoo but they clip nails, anal glands and a ear cleaning. Everyone there was very sweet and friendly. When I picked up my pups they seemed like they had a pretty Good experience And then a very sweet girl (I forgot to get her name) showed me around. The entrance to the doggie outside area is a little tight, several pups were able to wiggle out of the gate when I visited. The outside area is large though I did miss the comfy Adirondack style chairs the Dog Bar in NoDa has. If you live in the Lake Norman area this is the spot for drinking and off leash dog play. We boarded our Goldendoodle here for five days. When we went to pick him up we asked the guy that checked us out how things went with our dog. His response, "we're about to find out". Well we didn't find out. We didn't receive a report or a receipt, so we left not knowing what we paid for or how things went. We were told when they came out with him that he had an "accident" and his bedding had to be washed. Our precious baby had the worst case of diarrhea and barely made it out of the door before exploding. We also noticed he was limping. We tried repeatedly to get an explanation for what happened but no one had a clue. We also tried to get information about the treats we'd asked them to provide him... thinking maybe he had a bad reaction to them. Only to find out they never gave him the treats. After several phone calls, emails, and a trip to the vet; we're still not quite sure what happened to our baby. We are 100% sure that we will never take him here again for anything. The communication was horrible and the service was horrible. The lack of concern was even worse! read more

I've always had a great experience here - both just a place to bring my dogs to chill as well as for grooming but I wanted to give feedback to the owners about your drink policy. I brought outside food - brunch (allowed) and coffee to go with my brunch. I was told no outside drinks allowed. Even though they don't offer coffee! I get not allowing that which you sell, gotta cover costs! But to prohibit coffee and you DON'T SELL COFFEE doesn't make sense. If you don't sell it, me bringing it in doesn't cut into your bottom line. Please offer coffee in the future. read more

Stopped in with our black Lab/border collie mutt, Luke, to take in some pre-season football last week. The owners are awesome and very accommodating, attentive to all the folks in the bar area and their critters. There were about a half-dozen dogs there at the time, all of them seemed to get along fine in the play area. The outdoor play area/"relief" space was clean and well-kept. Other than a hiccup about where we could order a good local pizza from for delivery, everything was great. We worked that out ultimately, and no one starved to death. Looking forward to going back for more football and on a Friday or weekend when they have the food trucks in the parking lot. Great concept! read more
