Delicious pizzas located in the heart of Madison right by the state capitol. It also has the BEST nachos I've ever had. The chips we're crisp and loaded with salsa, guac, sour cream, pickled onions and jalapenos. The pickled onions were a really good touch. I love that they offer two types of pizzas: thin crust wood fired pizza and deep dish pizza. I couldn't choose between the two as they were both fantastic. The atmosphere is nice and lively. read more

Lucille - Mediterranean wood fired pizza - Pizza Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

My fiancé and I stopped here for lunch today after getting our marriage license. It was seat yourself, so we went upstairs and grabbed a table. Since we both had to go back to work in the afternoon, we stuck to water. We ordered the Italian Pantry Salad with avocado and "The Queen" wood fired pizza with extra mozzarella. The salad came out first, and was delicious. The greens were evenly dressed, and the toppings worked well together. I would come back for this salad alone. We planned to split the salad, but my fiancé and I wasted no time in conversation as we devoured it. Next the pizza came out. This took a a little longer to arrive than we expected, which normally wouldn't be an issue, but it was lunch service, so we expected the pizza to come out a little sooner. However, when it did arrive, we were very pleased. The crust had the right amount of chew to it, with the edges a bit charred. The cheese was nicely melted and little bit carmelized, and the sauce did not drown the pie, but gave a sweet tomato kick. I ate three pieces before forcing myself to stop, but could have had an additional 3 slices. I would've normally opted for the detroit style pan pizza, but my fiancé is not a fan of thicker crusts. I did notice the table next to us had ordered the detroit style and it looks like a very generous lunch portion, but I was still more than pleased with the wood-fired had tossed crust. Our total visit lasted for about 70 minutes. I would definitely return, would recommend to others. However, it will likely be for dinner or on an afternoon when I do not need to return to work - which will allow me to have a few beers or bourbons with my salad and pizza. read more

Visited Lucille for the Wednesday date night deal: $40 gets you a pizza, a bottle of champagne, a salad, and a dessert. You can upgrade for $10 more to a larger pizza or one of their steel pan pizzas. We ordered the Caesar salad and upgraded to the Couch Potato steel pan pizza. The salad was a classic Caesar, and the champagne was nice and crisp. The steel pan pizzas are more dough/crust than sauce/toppings, so nothing like a deep dish. Still a unique taste though. For the dessert, we chose the brownie, which was warm and wonderful with a scoop of ice cream on top! The ambiance at this restaurant is what will keep me coming back. The inside is finished so beautifully to reflect the history of the building (check out the old bank vault in the basement-so cool!). I've also been here for drinks with friends, and it's a very hip place with funky drinks too! read more

Great Pizza and Atmosphere. It is in the heart of the city, perfect location just of cap square and a nice open air space. read more

Lucille has a great menu, perfect for sharing if you like that. It's very casual, light filled and comfortable place. Four of us shared salad, nachos and pizza along with some great cocktails and craft beers. It was fun and all was delicious. read more

I have chosen this place as my go-to birthday dinner with the family for a few years now! I'm a huge fan of the steel pan pizza style, and Lucille does the crust just right. I always promise myself I'll try the tacos or nachos next time, but never get away from the pizza. Tonight was a slower night in the kitchen but the yelp check in offer eased the wait. Two hours in and out on a Wednesday night but it was just us and the kids and we weren't in a hurry. My better half and I split a steel pan and a 10" wood fired and they were both good. The wood fired was a few seconds too long in the oven with a little char but I don't mind that and prefer that to it being pulled too early so it's all good. The craft cocktail menu is excellent. Tonight I had the starlit skinny dip and loved it. And thank you for not serving with a straw- whether that was by accident or design we could all do well to use fewer straws, right? I'm trying anyway! Don't forget to end your meal with the steel pan cookie and ice cream.... I've not had a bad experience here; some nights are better than others but they do things right for the most part and I always enjoy myself and look forward to my return! read more

If I was just rating on food this place is 4/4.5. If you rate on drinks 2. We've been here 3 times. Food has always been good. Drinks are lame to say the least. Wine pours are pathetic and even beer comes out half pint after all the foam disappears. Friends who have ordered mix drinks are equally disappointed. This is winter in Wisconsin and we can't go back to a place that can't pour a drink, sorry Lucille we won't be back. read more

Had a super weird experience at Lucille tonight. My brother and his wife (both not vegan) wanted to check it out. There wasn't much info from the Madison Vegan group on the place, but I checked the menu and it seemed as though we might be able to stumble our way through and work something vegan out. Arrived at 7, was told it would be an hour and a half wait (on a Sunday night?!), which was crazy because all the tables on the first floor were empty. Decided to wait it out anyway, so we went down to The Rigby for drinks (THE BEERS WERE BUY ONE GET ONE FREE - WHAT?!). After an hour at The Rigby (great service there btw), we checked in at Lucille and were told they were just cleaning off our table and it would be 10-15 minutes. Cool, I don't think it takes 10-15 minutes to clear off a table, but I'll continue waiting. 15 minutes later, I check in again to be told by a different person it would be another 10-15 minutes because she was "letting the servers catch up." Huh?! True to their word, 15 minutes later, we were seated. The bottom of the menu has designations for (V)=vegetarian, (VG)=vegan, (P) =pescatarian, (GF)=gluten free. Nothing on the menu was marked VG. My brother asked our server for help with the vegan options, and he pointed out a few on the menu - some marked simply vegetarian were actually vegan, like the black bean and plantain empanadas. My brother asked if some pizzas could be considered vegan if made without cheese - for instance, the Mediterranean pizza (basil and arugula pistou, feta, artichoke hearts, cherry tomato, kalamata olives, spinach, and red onion), and the server said yes, but he felt without the feta, the pizza would have "no base." I've eaten plenty of delicious, veggie-rific cheese-free pizzas, son. That's actually what we ended up ordering in addition to the black bean and plantain empanadas. The empanadas were delicious, but they were served with an unidentifiable watery white sauce on the side. All I tasted was cilantro; my brother (a chef) said it tasted like creme fraiche. I flagged down someone working at the restaurant (we hadn't seen the server in awhile) who said that it was a "mayo substance" and that I should ask our waiter. When he finally showed up again to deliver our pizzas (the empanadas were gone by then), my brother asked what the empanada sauce was. The server said it was salsa verde but he wasn't sure what it was made from and couldn't tell me if there was any dairy in it. I'm going to stop here for a sidebar. I don't eat animals because I choose not to, but I know there are people out there who have life-threatening food allergies, and I completely understand why they are terrified to eat out at restaurants. I was told by one person that this watery white sauce was a "mayo-substance" (nothing in it tasted like Mayo nor was it thick like Mayo) and the second person (the server!) told me he didn't know but he thought it was salsa verde (which is green, tomatillo-based, and doesn't have mayo in it). I feel you, people with food allergies. I get why you're terrified. I'm terrified too. The sad part about all this is, my pizza was AMAZING. It looked so beautiful and inviting, the crust was perfect, and the veggies on it divine. We ate the whole thing with none left over for lunch tomorrow. The artichoke and kalamata were salty and scrumptious - feta as a base?! Feta would have been overkill. My brother and sister-in-law were pleased with their pizza too, but the hassle we went through to get food tonight means we won't be giving Lucille a second chance. Vegans, you probably shouldn't either. Heck, even non-vegans should steer clear til they get their shit together service-wise. Sal's forever! read more

I had family visiting this weekend and one of the first places I thought of to take them to was Lucille. We absolutely loved the Mediterranean wood fired pizza, as well as the 6 Mile Classic and the Weekend Deep Dish pizza. It was great to have both options. We sat outside and the atmosphere was great, the patio looks really, really nice with string lights, planters and umbrellas. And, the cocktails are really yummy, too. Highly recommend Lucille! read more

Went here for my birthday lunch and it was good! I love the ambiance with the exposed brick walls. My husband and I got the guacamole and the Don Quixote pizza. I thought the pizza was good but not my favorite in Madison. The service here was great- I wanted a non-alcoholic drink and the server had the bartender make me a delicious mocktail. read more

Great pizza and vibes inside. We sat at the bar because we didn't have a reservation, but we got in and we able to have our dinner at the bar. read more

We went on a beautiful day and loved sitting outside. The cheese curds were the best we've had in Madison so far!! My husband and I split a pizza (can't remember the name) that was fantastic. My Italian, east coast taste buds loved the sauce. My daughter got a bowl that she enjoyed very much. Good service, good food, good atmosphere. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because it was a little pricy especially the mixed drinks. We would definitely go back. read more

I don't know why I waited until 2020 before a visit here, but what a mistake. Fantastic steel pan pizza! The carmelized cheese on the crust was excellent but I also really liked the abundance of sauce. It makes it more messy to eat but I sometimes think some pizza places don't put enough sauce. I'll be back again soon. read more

Such a fun environment! Love the music on Sunday days. The pizza is amazing!! Can't even pick a favorite because everything we tried was delicious! read more

Good food ( Pizza), Good service, worth the try. We came here for dinner and we really enjoyed it. The server made sure I get the beer I am looking for she got me several beer as samples before I found my choice. Definitely coming back.. I wish service was bit faster read more

Beautifully designed restaurant and bar! There's a second bar downstairs that does cocktail "classics"; negronis, martinis, and such. Upstairs restaurant accidentally served my vegetarian partner a meaty empanada once. Partner was VERY unhappy. Bar manager personally apologized to us and gave us complimentary beverages. Mistakes happen. Glad they worked to make it right and very glad no allergies were triggered. read more

food is ok. we went on a wednesday night and the noise level was very high. defeated my purpose of getting to know a few people. service was good. read more

What an awesome place!! The building itself has a lot of character, and the decor they chose compliments it so well. The food and drinks are stellar and unique. You can't beat the location and the view of the Capitol Building out the corner window. I love the 2 story concept, which allows you to look down on the bar and stone pizza oven when you sit above. My kids loved watching the chef cook pizzas! It's family friendly or a great place to meet a group of friends. The service was excellent too. I can't wait to show this place to our friends and family when they visit Madison! read more

Great recommendation from a UW senior. Visiting Madison with prospective student. Awesome restaurant: decor vibe staff and food & beverages. Will visit again. read more

Great atmosphere. The check in offer here is a great deal, and may have been the reason that I went out for pizza. As an appetizer we had the artichoke dip, which was only OK. I was expecting a cream cheese based dip with chunks of artichoke hearts, but this was a smooth sauce with melted cheese on top. There was a small hiccup in service where we were brought out the wrong pizza, when we pointed out the mistake to our server we were given the oops pizza free of charge and the one we ordered arrived shortly after. The umami pizza was very non-traditional but very tasty. This was the best pizza I have had in at least year. read more

Lucille is one of my all-time favorite places to go for a date night. The ambiance is amazing, the drinks are great, and their pizza is absolutely splendid! I always make my own but their deep dish pizzas are fantastic as well. The only caviat is that it's a bit pricey but I personally think it's worth it. read more

I cannot comment on the food, I did not eat there. I was there for a beer event. The decor is very nice and I like the communal seating. The menu had some really good items although I thought many were very overpriced. I only give 4 stars based on the fact I did not eat. The service was very good. I will definitely eat here in the future. It was a nice experience. read more

Talk about a top notch dining experience in Madison. Farm to table, sheik, romantic, but fun meet up/hangout for a group, American bar with many offerings. Pizza, cocktails, cheese curds, tacos, and desserts are things they do well. The cheese curds are so good, and have a 3 foot long cheese-pull minimum. Pizzas are fun to share, and they have fun discount cocktail offerings depending on the day. Check in on Yelp to get your first drink free! read more

I find them to be superb, I had an issue with a pizza I order. The floor Supervisor Josh M. was so gracious. I explained to him the issue ,an although it couldn't be fix (dough issue)immediately , and he offered a great solution(Quesa Birria Taco)! Yum! I have NEVER been treated so well. Long wait on a Saturday night but worth it. Pizza was excellent. Our waiter was great. Inside setup is very cool. Can be a little loud at the larger tables, but still with a visit. read more

Wow just wow! Talk about Christmas spirit. I'm all about this place! To be honest, it's a little pricey. But to be more honest, it's worth it. I could sit there and drink cocktails all day, people watch, and enjoy the jovial atmosphere. The reason it's not 5 stars is because it is expensive for what you get. The cheese curds were awesome, but they were $6 of awesome not $8. The guacamole was terrific, but not $14 of terrific, maybe $8 of terrific. However, our waiter was attentive, but most importantly not hovering (I hate when they do that). I will definitely be back here for some of their amazing pizza. read more

I stopped in for lunch during the week and was pretty happy with the lunch scene...plenty of open seating, bar stools at a wrap around bar, an upstairs seating area and friendly service that greets you right away! I had heard they were known for their pizza, and they do have a lunch special with a slice - your choice woodfired or deep dish - that comes out pretty fast (within minutes). However, the bartender recommended their burger, so I tried their burger and a cup of Broccoli cheese soup. Wow! Great food, and a really good burger, with pimento cheese spread and fried pickles! It was excellent! The service is great, the food is hot and fresh, and they have more than just pizza (hence the burger I tried :) on the menu. They also have a full bar, as I found out as I witnessed some folks enjoying a few cocktails with their food. They have a great atmosphere, friendly staff, good, hot food, and a great bar...I will have to come here for happy hour or late night and try it out again (and the pizza)! read more

First off, my girlfriend loved the food here. I, however, may be subject to having my expectations too high, they left me a bit disappointed with Lucille. I thought their dough would be more flavorful and their pizza closer to classic Neapolitan. read more

Awesome interior and all around cool place. The pizza is great and their date night special is a great deal. Would definitely like to come back. Also just a good spot to grab a drink. Expect a wait though, especially on the weekends. read more

Came here with a large group to hang out the Friday before a wedding. We just hung out by the bar and ordered some drinks and food. I wasn't a big fan of the strawberry sour that I ordered but I continued to drink it anyways. The fried cheese curds were okay- not squeaky like I was told to expect. Their guacamole was very good, especially since it was served with more than just chips! We also ordered the wings but that took a long time to come out and by the time they arrived our group was heading out so we took them to go. The little taste I had of them was good but of course it's not gonna be as good as fresh wings. read more

Great environment and good service. Food was ok. Very friendly and seemed to have great cocktails and wine

So.. I ordered a long island iced tea and that was the absolute worst version of the cocktail I've ever had. There more ice in there than the chunk that broke off of Antarctica. Bloody disappointed. Don't be chintzy on the alcohol! read more

Amazing pizza!! I definitely overate at this place. It's one of those places where you just can't stop eating because it's so amazing. The Unami pizza is phenomenal and great drink selection. I was disappointed by the cheese curds though- too much breading. Really cute atmosphere and a fun place to take a good sized group! Probably my favorite pizza place so far in Madison! read more

I love the aesthetic of Lucille because of its dramatic two-story layout and hip vibes. They are always changing up their menu and experimenting with new things, so I feel like I have a new experience each time I go. In terms of their main focus - pizza - I really enjoy their wood fired options. They allow you to customize, and there are a lot of premium ingredient options, so you can really make a delicious pizza to your liking. I, however, was not a huge fan of their steel pan pizza. It felt like a weird rendition of Chicago deep dish, and as a Chicago native, it just tasted too intense and overdone. The cheese crust was a bit overpowering in flavor and there was way too much of it. Anyways, I would stick to their cocktails and thin crust pizzas! It's a fun place to go with friends in the city. read more

Cool ambiance and yummy food. Two styles of pizza always on the menu, a great draft beer list, and top notch appetizers with ingredients that are all locally sourced. I love their steel pan nachos as an appetizer. I prefer the wood fired pizza over the steel pan, which is more of a deep dish style. We had the sausage and raab this time, but have also enjoyed the Umami pie, which was outstanding. read more

So, yeah, where to begin. Lucille is pretty good - I'm a fan of the pizza and the diverse menu. And that bar downstairs - that's a nice place to hang out. Overall the decor gets a 5/5. The only problem we've had in the past is getting seated, and once we do get a table it feels like we're always on a double date with random people. Serves us right, I guess, for agreeing to sit at the community table on a busy Friday night, but the seating in this area seems just a little too tightly packed - it might be nice to eliminate one place setting on each side and give each person 2 more inches of elbow room. So ambiance / feel gets 2/5. The wood fired and pan style pizzas are good - we had one of each and unfortunately they came out in dramatically different times, for the obvious reason of different baking times. Kind of a bummer because some people could be finished eating (wood fired pizza) before other guests food is even done cooking (pan). Food 3/5. Service was OK - any lack in service probably had more to do with where we were sitting (busy community table) than the overall care of the server. Still, could have been better, so 4/5. Overall, I guess we're going with 4/5. Will I go back? Definitely for drinks in the basement bar, and likely dinner on a quiet(er) weeknight. read more

Phenomenal pizza in a cool atmosphere. Very unique. Can't wait to go back and enjoy the bar.

I have been here multiple times and have decided it's the best pizza I've ever had. So so so good. BLT pizza blew my mind. The cheese pizza has cream cheese on it and it is amazing. Both the deep dish and wood fired are amazing but the wood fired is the best pizza there is. On top of that, it's beautiful in there and there's a wonderful view of the capital. Everything on the menu is very cool and exciting. One of my favorite places! read more

We had such a great dinner at Lucille. While they don't take reservations on Friday and Saturday nights, we were thrilled that they could seat our party of 4 on a Friday around 7pm. Very rare for downtown Madison! They were very accommodating to someone in our group who had a soy allergy, and the staff did a great job of checking ingredients. We loved our cocktails and the $3 shot special. The nachos were amazing and the pizza was delicious! They had plenty of vegetarian options. The service was pretty speedy considering that it was a weekend evening. Love the decor and ambiance. Highly recommend! read more

Atmosphere/vibe/decor is 5/5 no question. Not much of a fancy cocktail person so I just give a generic thumbs up because they have whiskey they can put over rocks for me. The pizza sadly is no better than a 3/5. The magic number feels like 4 stars overall. With all that the Madison food scene has to offer, go to Lucille for drinks before/after dinner elsewhere. The greater point there being you should work in a stop at Lucille though. Cool spot. read more
