Great food, wonderful service and cool atmosphere. We had the chicken which was very moist with tons of flavor. Also had the funghi pizza which was delicious! The simple green salad was a little heavy on the cheese, but still good. Great housemade focacia and nice olive oil. Our waitress was friendly and gave great menu feedback, which I love. My In-laws love this place but we are always underwhelmed. They are not bad but nothing stands out as great either. The pizza crust was tough and the prosciutto was too thick so was hard to bite through. We tried a chicken dish on another visit thinking maybe pizza wasn't their strength. I just love this little neighborhood gem. Their appetizers alone make a great meal. Their dinosaur (lacinato) kale salad is tremendous. The other night they had grilled peaches wrapped in prosciutto, and a lovely goat cheese underneath with arugula for spice. Divine. I almost always have their Brick Chicken -- It's just so freaking good, I never venture out to try something new! Delicious flavor, and the side veggie (string beans with grilled shallots) is perfect. Their desserts are varied, all delicious. I've been here once for happy hour and once for dinner. Prices are reasonable and the food is great! The wood-fired pizza is so tasty and I've enjoyed everything from their pasta to salad to dessert. The bar has some yummy Italian-esque drinks to offer, which are tasty and fun, as well. Bonus: they take reservations! When we walked in to eat the other day, my first thought was "oh no, this is gonna be too fancy for my tastes" - but it's not true! the decor is beautiful, but this place is far from stuffy or pretentious, and the food is delicious - nothing unpleasantly "gourmet" (read: weird) here. Our waiter was attentive (but not too attentive!) and funny, and he made some good menu suggestions for us. I highly recommend the rosemary potato things - I don't even like rosemary normally, but I could eat pounds of these things. And the pizza I had was really good, too. We were there during a down-time, something like 2:30 on a Tuesday or the like, and they were only serving a limited menu (maybe it's their lunch menu?), so I want to go back during dinner to see what else they offer. So yea, although this place looks kind of upscale, it's really just a cozy, friendly establishment - no scary pretense here! read more

Super cute restaurant in our neighborhood. I love the decor and location, unfortunately, their menu is small and isn't traditional Italian fare. There are a few pizza options, a few pasta options and a few meat options. I ordered the spaghetti, which came with the typical vermicelli noodles, but it was tossed with mushrooms, spinach and other ingredients - no sauce. It was boring. And the weird thing is that the pasta portions were small, the pizza was small. I came with my SO and he ate his pasta dish, some of mine and half of a pizza and was still hungry. Strangely, their dessert portions of the tiramisu is absolutely gargantuan. If I come back here I'm coming solely for dessert. Best deal on the menu. read more

Fantastic evening with my father-in-law! Just went out for a quick Sunday night meal, and it was lovely. I had an absolutely awesome experience at Lucca. Every morsel of food was bliss, every interaction with the staff was sublime. It was obvious that our waiter was genuinely proud of the food they served, and honestly cared about the quality of our experience. When he was describing the menu items and pointing out what was special about them, it didn't feel like he was going through the motions, it felt like he was passionate about educating us to the splendid cornucopia they offered. Sometimes simple human interactions can feel commodified in restaurants, so It was *truly* refreshing to feel like guests instead of mere customers. We split four dishes amongst our table, mussels, fall veggies, a pizza, and some butter injected cheese with pesto. I wanted to lick the plates clean, but decorum and civility dictated otherwise. It was satisfying and satiating. Our pizza took a little longer than usual (I had no idea as this was my first visit), but our waiter explained that it came out looking overcooked on one side, undercooked on the other, so they did it again. Maybe Im just not used to that level of attention to detail and quality, but it certainly left me with the impression that I'm about to become a regular here. Our friends that took us there have an almost 2 year old child, and honestly it's the first time I've been to a restaurant with any children that young. There wasn't the slightest hesitation from the staff whatsoever to accomodate our needs. Wonderful food and service. With a large group we were able to sample several appetizers. I'm not a liver person but I will try anything. The chicken liver pate was shockingly my favorite. I LOVE this restaurant, and make a point of coming here every time we go to Portland. Staff remember us, even though it's only once a year. Wine menu is great, and I've never been disappointed by the staff pitching in if I can't make up my mind. Sure, I understand restaurants being busy. We stood at the front while I counted 7 different staff members didn't even greet us- not a hello, not a smile, not a 'we'll be with you in a second!" Tried to flag someone down for 10 minutes before I finally was acknowledged, but only with a snap and a 'check in with the host' (which I had desperately been trying to do for 10 minutes) before we left after 15 minutes of trying. I have eaten here previously, and the food is actually good but I cannot deal with the dismissive rudeness. I get being busy, I'm a patient, understanding customer who has worked a lot of resto jobs, but there's an institutional change that needs to happen here. Outside seating was perfect. The salad was unique and good and I was actually sad when it was eaten up. The pizza was really good too. I reluctantly agreed to go to Lucca yesterday with family friends, but left pleasantly satisfied. Our service was pretty great. Certainly not rude -- maybe overly helpful, if that's possible. The interior was comfortable, and calm on a Tuesday night. The food was awesome. Not creative or inventive, but awesome in a traditional sense. The antipasti plate was really delicious, as was the primavera I ordered. I tried a bite of my partner's pork, and that was also great. The panna cotta was gold, and the grand marnier custard with berries was perfect. If I wasn't in public, I would've licked the cup clean. Lucca to me reads as a reliable place to take a date out for a nice dinner. It's not exciting in any sense, but if you're looking for a good, clean meal and a glass of wine, this is it. For the second year in a row a group of 8 of us visited Lucca as part of a progressive dinner that was purchased at a benefit auction. Both years the staff was attentive and interested in where we had been and how our evening was going. What I assume is the owner was there both times with our very own printed menus. It made us feel welcome and special. The food was great this year. Two different pasta dishes, one with spaghetti, tomatoes and home-made pancetta and one with penne pasta in a light pesto tomato sauce. Both were good, but the innocuous looking spaghetti was really the hit of the table. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, with just the right hints of class. For a Tuesday night, I was surprised to see the entire place packed for the hour and a half we were there, as the other two restaurants we visited were empty. read more

Lucca is one of my favorite restaurants. I have never had a bad meal here. The food is great: well-seasoned, innovative (without being off-the-wall), and uses high-quality ingredients. Their wine and beer selection is solid, and their mixed drinks are awesome. Highlights: their Caesar uses real anchovies (a must), their arrabbiata pizza is spicy and amazing, the muscles were fresh and delicious. The "lovejoy" and the "gin 'n juice" drinks are winners. Additionally, the staff has always been knowledgable, passionate, and accommodating to food allergies. The ONLY downside worth mentioning is that it can get somewhat loud, however, the good food and drink would inspire anyone to be boisterous. read more

Something seems to have changed here in the last few months. We live in the neighborhood and usually visit weekly. Menu items have changed and honestly aren't as good! The tuna nicoise I so look forward to each summer has yet to make an appearance and the service has been questionable. We're hoping these changes aren't long term as we do love Lucca! read more

Not a great dining experience. Could have been far better with the simplest of improvements. Took 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged after being seated. Some of the staff seemed downright miserable, and therefore rude. Wife's order was wrong. Food was decent but the experience and interaction with staff was subpar. Bummer! I live in rural Oregon and an not a big city person. Visited friends there on the way to airport on a reasonably tight schedule. My friends very thoughtfully ordered takeout from Lucca, just down the street. I went down with one of them to pick it up, and paid the bill for three pizzas. Based on the look, feel, and clientele, I looked around for cameras filming an episode of Portlandia! But alas, no cameras but the scene was definitely there. Anyway, after paying, some neighbors came in, told us how great the place is, how fast it was, and walked out with their pizza 15 min after ordering. I began asking the desk person who took my card where it was, and got a story about how INCREDIBLY busy they were, and after all, it was only 35 min after we called. I found this unacceptable, walked back and asked another person who said "they're just coming out of the oven". After several more minutes, asked the person at the desk again, who said "they just put them in the oven and they'll be out in 3 minutes." After 5 more minutes, I demanded they credit my card for the amount, which they did, but would not give me a refund receipt. I'm told the food is great. But to me, the staff were rude, contradicted one another, and provided what I feel is simply unacceptable service, which is why I give it one star. I shan't go there again, but of course readers who are Portlandia adherents will just say I'm a rural Oregon asshole cowboy who does not understand how real restaurants work. Had a few decent dinners here but a very poorly run business. I had sent them a check for a gift certificate for a family member and they lost the check. They then blamed me for the problem as they normally do not deal with checks. What???? This place has been "bookmarked" on Yelp to try for quite awhile now since we drive by it all the time. Yesterday we decided to check it out for lunch. The menu for lunch consisted of salads, sammies and pizzas. I opted for an amazing tomato, mozzarella, basil with pancetta sammie on house-made focaccia. The focaccia was so soft and complimented the ingredients so well. Overall one of the best sammies I've had in a VERY long time. So good I ate it too fast to take a photo. All the ingredients were so fresh and flavorful. My husband got the pesto chicken salad and before I could ask him how it was, it was already gone. I had a side salad with my big sammie and just when I thought I was too stuffed to eat the salad, I took one bit and tasted farm to table fresh. You know when you bite into a tomato and it tastes like it came from your own garden? Yeah, the whole salad was that good and I'm not going to lie, I'm a total salad snob b/c I do have a big garden at home and I'm making salads all the time. So overall, this has been one of my favorite lunch spots we've hit since we moved here last summer. The service was great and attentive and the food was delish. We'll definitely be back. read more

I attended a private event here and I was very impressed. We had a quaint room in the back which was secluded enough to where we were away from the restaurant, but it was still open and inviting. We enjoyed endless pizza of different varieties and a few different salads and pastas.The major stand out items that I'm still craving and can't wait to go back for was the mushroom pizza and veggie pasta with squash and mushrooms, whatever it was called. The pasta tasted homemade and was perfectly cooked, the pizza was full of flavor and fully loaded with toppings. This restaurant provides a really cute atmosphere that seems to attract couples on an intimate date, families with children, and folks in the neighborhood. Diverse and delicious! read more
