Stopped by for lunch, slid through the drive thru but the attendant was less than friendly. He seemed like he didn't want to be there or he was in a hurry. I ordered the blacked Talapia w/ Mac & cheese and skillet fried cabbage and a white roll. It came with silverware and lemons and tarter sauce as well. Took about ten minutes after someone finally came to the window to collect my payment. The Talapia was blackened but surprisingly bland so I'm not sure what they seasoned it with but it was lacking flavor. The mac and cheese was cheesy and the cabbage was good, I think it had bacon but was missing salt as well. Not a bad meal for $13 bucks, it was filling but definitely could've used more umph in the flavor department. Not much to say about the ambiance since I didn't go inside. read more

Came for Thanksgiving dinner. Portion size was good. Service was great. We went in an hour before closing and staff were very friendly and upbeat. We did not feel rushed to leave. All the food was delicious and they had plenty of pies. They did not have any cake options but I did attribute it to getting there so late they must of ran out. Free parking! read more

Luby's will always hold a special place in my heart. I live in CA, but grew up in The RGV. I grew up celebrating birthdays, graduations & anniversaries at a Luby's Cafeteria. My mother always said there was something for everyone here. The ambience is southern hospitality at its finest. The staff are attentive and service is great; staff are always willing to help. The food is nothing to write home about, but it's pure comfort food. My favorites are the fried fish and the chicken fried steak. I had always talked to the SO about Luby's & we finally made it! We split the fish and chicken fried steak and got two sides each... the Mac and cheese and I got the mashed potatoes and we also got the fries okra, and corn bread jalapeño muffins. Food was homey and a great value. We spent about $32 for the two of us and we took the cherry pie to go. Can't wait to be back when we are back in TX! read more

Main St. location S.A. Tx Worst drive through service ever. Stephanie at the drive through is rude. They didn't even have any customers at the drive through and couldn't get my order of 2 dinner plates out. If they ask you to pull over and wait out front, you will be forgotten about. I asked an employee Mona to call the manager and she looked at me and made a dog face and walked off. I had to go call the manager monica to expedite my order. Service here is the worst....!! I've often bemoaned the "death" of Luby's Cafeteria but a visit to the Main Avenue location has resurrected this business in my lunchtime rolodex. The sights, smells, and bustle here took me back to the days of yore when Luby's sat at the pinnacle of the cafeteria world (at least in Texas). Fried fish, Chicken Fried Steak, Liver and Onions, Salisbury Steak, Enchiladas, Pork Chops, and more. Fried okra, mac&cheese, steamed broccoli, Salads, hot rolls, and copious desserts. Oh my! It was hot, fresh, flavorful, and conjures the childhood memories of good food in a wholesome atmosphere...San Antonio style. I'm glad we still have Luby's. read more

I have been coming to this location since I was little and I'm sad to say this location use to be much better back then. The customer service here has dropped significantly here. The staff that work the check out counter constantly rush you and are not pleasant at all. The food is decent but since it takes so long to get down the line and they have it feeling like a freezer in the building your food is cold by the time you sit down, not to mention my whole chicken fried steak fell out the breading I have never seen it do that before. My husband had fish with , broccoli and cheese, macaroni, and cheese & cornbread & his plate was perfect . I had liver and onions with mashed potatoes and fried okra . My liver looked fine on the top side but when I flipped it over it was all burnt I had to send some of it back to be replaced when I got to the second piece of liver and I flipped it over it was burnt as well. To the man with the snake neck tattoo at the drive-through window... if I ask you whether I was given ranch or gravy and the bag is still in your hand... It's because I can see a sauce through the bag and want to know what was given to me because I don't like eating ranch. no one asked on the mic and they kept saying "one moment", so I assumed they were either training or busy, making an order . They have continuously given both me and my friend the diet Dr. Pepper instead of the regular Dr. Pepper after waiting 30 minutes in the drive through. We correct them every time and no changes have been made. A worker also made us go in for their mistake. read more

Normally I go to the Huebner/Floyd Curl location. I ordered the managers special which I expected to be about one dollar less than the LuAnn plate. The board d did not have the price, but said southern fried fish. The fish turned out to be catfish and was $12.99. Not a special. It felt low rent as part of the rack that you slide your tray on through the line was missing, the utensils were wrapped in paper towels and the wait staff were strangely familiar with us. With the catfish I had mashed potatoes (too runny) and gravy, spinach ( well prepared) and a dinner roll. I will not go back to this location. read more

Staff quickly stepped in to assist in any way they could, with the manager taking an interest in our goal to create community engagement for our seniors. Get with the times and do curbside so those who do not want to wait in long lines to eat inside cannot change their minds and try to order to go! You order food to go to be picked up at 1 pm and the app says order is ready by 12:30. So needs better IT people or idea how to make an app or online ordering work. Man!!!!! I love Lubys ever since I was a child, I'm an official lifer!!!! I love the fried fish with mac n cheese with broccoli & cheese or the cabbage. The liver and onions is pretty bomb also!!! My cornbread (pumice stone) was in competition with my salmon for who could be the most dry. The yams still had skin on them and had no flavor whatsoever. Saying the corn tastes like water is an understatement. My wife had the grilled chicken which once smothered in gravy wasn't to bad. At least it wasn't dry. Today was not a very good visit. This place varies considerably, just depends on "who's cooking, who's waiting on tables, who's cashiering, who's running the place, etc.!" My broccoli was very cold including the "cheese sauce," (Luby's desperately needs to turn up the steam tables), the chicken fried steak had lots of gristle, no wheat rolls available, nor jalapeno cornbread, and our tall, black waiter absolutely failed on customer service, exhibiting a truly "bad" attitude. He seemed "panicked" to get his "side work" done, mind you... this is 45 minutes before closing. Customers, and their desires, should come first, side work second, or to be fully performed "after" closing. I'm so disappointed because, it seems like, "across the board," people are just plain "lazy" these days, don't want to wait on people properly, don't wanna work hard, act like they (customers or patrons) don't deserve it, or act like they should get paid tips, etc. for nothing, for "FREE!" It wasn't always this way, OMG! times have changed, society has gone downhill, very few people exemplify "true" class, or true "good manners," if you will. As I proceeded to ask him for "Tabasco Sauce," he tapped me and said he'd be right back, never heard a word I said, secondly--- seemed perturbed that I requested extra gravy for my chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes (the line servers didn't hear me or ignored this request, I'm ever amazed at how many people in this day and time, DO NOT LISTEN), never asked if we needed our drinks refilled till 2 minutes before we were leaving, never cleared our empty plates or dishes in a timely manner, complained that they had been swamped non-stop, since 3:00 pm, was drinking a soda on the dining floor as he was bussing tables, etc. Professionalism? Ohh, "out the window!" What's strikes me, is that I heard him tell the two "older" people or couple, sitting at the table next to us, that he was 64 years old but didn't look it, but somehow felt it or something, couldn't hear the rest audibly... And, if that's the case, if he is "64," my husband and I just a few years younger, from obviously the same generation or "era," you would "think" that he would know a little something about REAL customer service, that'd he'd think "old school," at least in some ways, that he could relate. Apparently not. I've never been prejudice against black people or any race or ethnicity, being part Latin, Spanish speaking, and part "other" myself, love black music and many facets of their culture... But just to note, I had an older Hispanic friend tell me years ago, that she did not like working with black people, because many of them tended to be "slackers," always screaming "discrimination," discrimination! bitter and resentful over the "slave issues" or injustices, of the past. "Not my fault, no excuse," seriously. Thank God President Trump is now implementing, "merit based" occupational policies, not policies based on one's race or ethnicity. You must "earn" a promotion, even from God Almighty, people that complain and do the least they can don't get promoted, period. The way to get promoted, for "any" human being, is to go the "extra mile," without complaining, "service with a smile," do more than you're asked or required to do, exceeding expectations, and the promotion is automatic, God himself will see to it! It's "really" just that simple, it's not magic nor favoritism. The scripture warns, "You reap what you sow," Man says, "What goes around, comes around," that sums it up, the ball is in YOUR court. read more

Luby's is set up like a cafeteria. You wait in line, grab a tray, and choose what you would like. The smells in the air reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. While it's definitely a different experience than a regular restaurant, I was excited to try the food. I got a sirloin steak with cabbage and Mac and cheese. The steak came with fried shrimp. I added a biscuit on the side with gravy. Everything tasted great. I was pleasantly surprised that the steak was marinated and cooked extremely well. I'm not a fan of fried shrimp but I enjoyed that they came with the steak, because who doesn't like steak and shrimp?! The cabbage was about oily, but this oil didn't take away from the taste. Eight of us met there for Thanksgiving dinner. There was a long line waiting to go through the serving line but we could visit as we waited. We each got the Thanksgiving Special. Turkey & dressing and 2 vegetables and dessert. The food was excellent. It was more than I could finish. A young lady brought us extras like cranberry sauce . She was very attentive. I almost didn't want to go there because of some negative reviews, but we were all very pleased with the place, the service and the food. The thing that drew me to this Luby's was the fact that it had a drive-through. However, the wait was incredibly long; with one car in front of me I had to wait 6 minutes before someone even came on the speaker, and an additional 12 before my order was ready. For a place in which all of the food is pre-made, this seemed like a long time. I went twice and had a similar wait time in both instances. Stay away from this location if you are with an autistic customer. The cashier was rude and so was the manager. I explained that the individual could not answer but I told the cashier it was two trays. The manager was babbling personal chatter and distracted her is what his excuse was but her attitude was uncalled for. They "hate" people with disabilities. Also the utensils were dirty af.
