This review is long overdue. I was referred to Coastal Paws by my neighbor, 7 years ago, after I…read moregot my first puppy and needed help with out-of-town overnight dogsitting. Hendrix my first pup loves going to Coastal Paws, he jumps out of my car and runs straight to door everytime even after all these years. Then when I got my second pup he does the exact same thing. Their pure enjoyment and excitement for doggy day care brings me so much joy. They are will taken care of and I receive feedback on their behavior and the owner does behavior training with them. She also sends daycare update photos with them playing, celebrates their birthdays and take holiday photos. I highly recommend Coastal Paws to all my friends and family. Thank you for making my pups feel safe and giving them a second home when I'm away.

So many good things to say about coastal paws SD! Mercedes and her team have been incredible. I…read morereached out originally for a board and train for our almost 1yr old husky/pitbull/bulldog mix & noticed a huge difference after even just 5 days with her! She's been so flexible for day trips and care throughout the following weeks to help tucker out our sweet girl and then has taken awesome care of her on other occasions of boarding as well. They send and post pictures throughout their stay and we always have a happy pup coming home to us after a visit with them. Can't recommend enough!

We have two wonderful pups with very different personalities. Ruth is our 11 year old English…read moreMastiff who loves to sleep and lounge all day and doesn't love being around other dogs. Walter is our new English Bulldog pupperoni (11 months) who loves to be around other dogs, though still learning Ps and Qs. We wanted to find a new daycare for them and came across this lovely place on yelp. I emailed them to set up a visit and they were very nice and accommodating. Everyone is sweet, you can tell they love our animals and they are professional. We stopped in on a Saturday morning and were able to check out the play area from the window in the lobby (also watched the video on their website) and they let us into the suites area since there were no dogs in there. When Ruth stays for the day, she stays in their suite and probably loves the break from Walter. Walter goes into the playgroup with the other pups. They asked for all the vaccinations and will ask for updated vaccines as well, which we love and feel very comfortable with. We know we stay up to date with everything and we want to be sure our pups are around other pups that have everything updated as well. We love the report cards. Especially since Walter is so young, we like to see how he is doing with the other dogs. I added some of the pics from their recent visit. Just look how happy he is and Ruth loves the big suite and comfy bed. We are very happy with this wonderful daycare.

BETTER OF THE PETSMARTS (4 stars)…read more Specially this location for Santa Photos for our pets... you can tell they put effort (unlike other PetSmarts). I've been to a handful of PetSmarts in San Diego area and I feel this location was the best thus far (obviously, La Jolla). Not going to lie, I'm more of a Petco shopper but when it comes to Santa Photos (Petco stopped doing them and they do have a better backdrop) - we resort to coming to PetSmart. The past couple years, I haven't been too ecstatic about Santa photos, even trying different locations. Why not try PetSmart in La Jolla?! 1) way better Santa and backdrop than all the other PetSmarts I've been too (there was thought into it) 2) they have little PetSmarts Xmas merch they gave away - little bandana and some treats while you wait in line (other PetSmarts gave absolutely nothing) 3) they placed the Santa photo area in a corner that was suitable that was special and clean and away from the traffic of customers (unlike other PetSmarts it's in the back of an isle) 4) weren't rushing you to get it over with. They were patient as dogs are scared of Santa and run away. Instead of crying screaming babies, it's whimpering dogs trying to run away from Santa. Big Santa was super nice and chill. Will mosdef be back to this location next year!

I have been a loyal PetSmart customer for years and have consistently shopped at this location,…read morewhich is why this experience was so incredibly disappointing. Our dog had already been accepted into doggy daycare here multiple times and had never had a single issue. She is the sweetest, most peaceful, loving dog with both dogs and humans and has never shown even the slightest sign of aggression. She had already proven she could attend daycare safely and happily. Completely out of the blue, we were suddenly informed by an employee that she could no longer attend because she "looks like a staffie." This was extremely confusing given that she had already been approved and had attended daycare here several times without any problems. What made the situation even worse was that we were out of town when this happened. Leaving town and trusting someone else to care for your dog is stressful enough as it is. Getting a call while away telling us that our dog suddenly could no longer stay at daycare because of how she "looks" was incredibly stressful and upsetting. I understand that PetSmart has policies regarding certain breeds or dogs that appear to be certain breeds. However, policies should be applied consistently and with basic fairness. If this rule truly applied to our dog, it should have been addressed from the beginning rather than allowing her to attend multiple times and then abruptly excluding her based purely on one employee's judgment. To make matters even more frustrating, we have DNA results confirming that our dog is a pug / German shepherd mix, not a staffie or any restricted breed. She is a gentle, affectionate, goofy dog who had already demonstrated that she could participate in daycare without any issue. We also were told by that employee that she acknowledged that she was clearly a very sweet dog and apologized for the situation, Hearing that even management recognized she was not a problem only made the situation feel more unreasonable. Instead of being treated like a dog who had already been welcomed there before, she was suddenly treated like a liability based purely on appearance. That is incredibly disappointing from a place that claims to provide a safe and caring environment for pets. As someone who has supported this PetSmart location for years, I expected a far higher level of consistency and professionalism. If you are looking for a place where your dog will be evaluated fairly and treated with genuine care, I would strongly recommend considering other daycare options .
