Despite the company's promise to return my deposit, all I received from them was a wripped up refund check. I called LT Generators to get a quote for a standby home generator. In case you aren't aware, if you call GENERAC GENERATORS direct, they only sell the generator and distributors do the installation AND INSTALLERS SET THEIR OWN INSTALLATION COST! Spoke with a lady with very little customer courtesy. The first time I spoke with her, she quoted me $10,000 to $15,000 for installation cost only. The 2nd time it was even more. I asked how long of a labor time will it take to do the installation, she said one day. I asked 8 hours, 4 hours, or what because I read reviews that it was done in half a day. She just repeated herself: one day! I asked how many people will do the installation, she said 4. My husband then spoke with her and said why 4 men and why so expensive. She said because we have to pay our bills and I get paid too. My husband asked what does each person do? We just had an excellent experience with LT Generator every step of the way. Marcello came out and walked us through the process in terms of operation and installation and then we received a prompt estimate. He returned another time when we had some additional questions about how to reroute the gas and electric lines. Every time we called the office we were dealt with professionally and with an extremely friendly manner, whether it meant making an appointment, or talking to the billing department. The installation itself went very smoothly. Eli and his team worked assiduously and professionally, and always with a smile. We had to have some additional wiring done by our own electricians before the process could be complete, and LT Generator was happy to come back to complete the job. As far as I had been concerned LT Generator was my "go to" company. They installed a Generac system that is on standby for our home in Brentwood. We have a maintenance contract with LT also. The reason one has a generator is for comfort and peace of mind about power outages. During the rain a few weeks ago I saw the "red light" on the side of the generator and called LT. They helped a bit on the phone but could not fix it. Then they scheduled service out a few weeks and said "we will get to you if you have an outage" (makes zero sense and means I will be without power for some period of time which is not why I have a generator installed. Not an inexpensive proposition by the way.). Power indeed went out and I called and they came out a day or two later. Power was back on before they got to us. Very nice tech. He advised "good news and bad news"; good news was he fixed what was causing the error code (but never told me what or why). Bad news: the "control panel" went bad and they need to order one. A full week went by with no call or update from LT. I called and left a very unhappy message. This resulted in an email from LT telling me that the part at Generac is "back ordered" with zero info about what that means or when I will have a working generator again. They have units on hand with the part on it but cannot lend one for our machine as it violates the warranty. Read LT ads about why you buy a generator for "peace of mind". We have three kids 6 and under. If the power goes out we have a problem. We bought what LT sold us because it runs the whole house. I've asked them to help with a workaround. No answer. I've asked for a date range for the part. No answer. My understanding is that LT stands for Lenny Tedesko the owner and I've asked for him to explain this to me. No answer. My electrician recommended I get a Generac. When I called the main office I was told their local vender would contact me, and that was LT Generators. After speaking with a number of people and receiving several emails, I decided to go with them. The installation was seamless and took only one day. I was given instruction on it's operation and a follow up visit to assure I was satisfied. My only concern is that during the process, I had to talk with at least 7 different people. It would be more convenient for the customer to have to deal with only one person, such as a project manager, who could receive questions and get back to them with answers....I have not yet had a need to use the generator. read more

They were also very knowledgeable about particular questions that we had. I thought this was a credible company to repair my 7.5 KW Generac generator (about 12 years old) which stopped running its weekly test cycle. They are listed on the Generac site as a dealer. The experience with keeping appointments was pretty hit or miss. Sometimes, they came. Sometimes they didn't. The events described took months. The first visit from the tech revealed the battery needed replacement; this was done on a second visit. The problem was not corrected but the tech decided the transfer switch needed replacement. This was ordered, took many weeks to obtain, and done on a subsequent visit but the generator still did not start up. (Now I am about $1000 in charges). A site visit was scheduled twice for a sales rep to provide info on replacing the unit and the proposal sent to me was for about $8000 less the $1000 already paid for the current version of the unit I had. The original price of this unit was less than $2000. The current price (inc a new transfer switch) elsewhere is $2200. The installation of the gas and electrical is already in place; replacement with a similar Generac generator is simple.....drop and connect (1-2 hours). No additional permitting is needed. I am very certain this is not a $6000 installation for this $2200 generator. There was no explanation for the price quoted and as it was over three times the replacement and installation cost otherwise, I obviously declined. It seems they should be reputable, but my experience was very disappointing. It seems the tech should have been able to accurately troubleshoot the problem before I (over)paid for the battery and transfer switch. To their credit, after I pointed that out, they did apply the credit to the new generator proposal. But $8000 v $2200? Judge for yourself. As an aside, the $350 battery is available at the auto parts store for $80. read more
