I hired Madison Electric in September 2022 to install an EV charger. Communication and the work quality was great, I have no complaints. The cost quoted included labor and parts. I also have a new build construction home with the wires pre wired so the actual work was not difficult at all. However (which I didn't know at the time), the Nema 14-50 plug that they bought at Home Depot and installed is not commercial grade (ie. Rated for EV charger use). It was a $15 plug and I only realized that when I want to use the EVSE charger at the maximum intended 40 amps, the socket would get extremely hot to the touch. I was worried about it melting (as you can google similiar stories) so I have been charging the car at only 20 amps max because I didn't want to spend more money on fixing the issue. 20 amps is fine and I can get a full charge overnight, it just takes longer since it's a slow charge. I'm finally posting this because I'm using the charger very frequently now (since I had free public charging for my EV which ended so now I have to charge at home) and I do wish my nema 14-50 plug was a heavy duty one so I can use the max amps of my juicebox. I didn't know then since I was a new EV owner so I want to make sure that other EV owners are aware and advocate for themselves/double check the work to make sure your house is safe! read more

However, this turns out not to be the case... At first, Nathan promptly agreed to have his guys come over but never settled on a time. At this point I stopped trying to make contact after following up one more time through Yelp message and left a voicemail, ultimately Nathan remained unresponsive since our first exchange. I understand we are approaching holiday season and things can get quite busy. That is all fine with me as long as they communicate that in advance. A simple "sorry we are too busy to take this job at the moment" would have be suffice and greatly appreciated. I don't know if they do a good job but I contacted them to install an EV charger. Nathan was very nice and came to give us a quote. He then was supposed to start the job that was supposed to be done in one day, the week after. He didn't show up a first time and after I contacted him, I thought there was a misunderstanding regarding the time. So we rescheduled and I took off work to be able to be present. Again no show and this time not only he didn't return my phone calls, he didn't even email me back to say he won't do the job. Very unreliable. Update to the previous review since Nathan responded by saying I canceled a first time. (I'm not Nick btw): I have email threads and text messages left unanswered on the day we were supposed to meet the second time. The first time was canceled by Nathan because he was supposed to get a City permit and he said he couldn't get it and that we have to reschedule. Needed a few things done: conduits installed in the garage to update the wiring (we bought the house and the previous owner made some interesting wiring choices) and to install a j-box and new wall switch in the living room. I called on a Monday. They offered to come literally the next morning at 7am to do the work. I wasn't available, but was able to schedule them for Wednesday (less than 48 hours from my call) at 7am. They arrived early and completed the work quickly. They were even able to install the new j-box and switch without making any holes in the drywall (except the one they needed for the switch). Those of you that follow me know that I am not one that gives out a perfect score readily, in fact my history shows that I am actually quite stingy with a 5 star and reserve that score for businesses that truly exceed my expectations. Madison Electric did just that. Contacted them through the Yelp quote system and Nathan contacted me right away with a quote. Not the lowest, but absolutely what I felt was fair and with their rating, decided to go with them. As you can tell I was very happy with that decision. After a few messages back and forth about the job and aligning our schedules, the crew showed up exactly on time. This guys seemed to have just "melted" into my house as they saw the switch, recognized the problem, confirmed the issue and just went right to work. One went right into the attic, started talking to the others in the kitchen and just completed the job in no time. I have a ton of insulation in the attic so I figured I would need to vacuum when they were done. I saw them clipping and stripping wires like Edward Scissorhands, figured I would need to sweep and clean when they were done. NOPE! When they completed the job I went to take a look and here they were all cleaning up, without any kind of question or anything. Had a few electrical items to address in our house, including adding circuits in our kitchen to be able to run multiple appliances at once and installing a 50 amp circuit for eventual induction oven. Nathan and his team were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We tore out all of our gas appliances and replaced them with electric, and hired Madison Electric to install 240v outlets for all of the new appliances. What really impressed me about Nathan was his level of flexibility. When I called for an estimate, he was able to squeeze me in same day for an onsite assessment and had the quote to me by the end of the day, which was lower than any other quote I received. I was on a tight timeline and needed someone ASAP so that I could get plumbers to start on the next phase of the project. Nathan was able to start 2 days later and had the work done in a day. Later that week when our new appliances arrived, we discovered that a few of the outlets were positioned in a way where we couldn't plug in the appliances (we knew that this might happen given that we didn't have our appliances yet when the outlets were installed). I called Nathan and he had his team back out to our place a few hours later and the issue was quickly resolved.
