LR's has been part of Delano for as long as I can remember. I remember celebrating my oldest son's 1st birthday here and he's now 26, so you can only imagine it's been here longer than that. I have not visited in such a long time now that I live in Bakersfield, but growing up in Delano I visited frequently. I recently visited and the place looks the same for the past 30yrs. There has been some updates for sure like the electronic menus and their fancy cc machines, but other than that it definitely looks the same. They have the bar still setup the same on the other side and it doesn't look too different either. I did notice that they have a lot more stuff on their menu from whenever the last time it was that I visited. Pizza is super cheesy and I can definitely appreciate that. I read a lot of other reviews and saw a lot of negative reviews for the chili verde pizza crust and I think they purposely make it thick like that to hold up the sauce. I also want readers to know that LR's is the ORIGINAL for the chili verde pizza. Our "other" local favorite pizza place is super good too, but is NOT the original! ;-) read more

LR Pizza is pretty much the best chili verde pizza in Kern county I'm been going to this spot for the last 20 plus years and I can't complain one bit but this time I actually had to give them a four stars for some reason the pizza was a little salty why I don't know It just was salty this time and it's usually not but it was nice and hot and spicy and it had a little kick to it like always got the mozzarella sticks for the first time and they were real good but maybe it was just a batch of chile verde this time maybe next time it won't be as salty other than that I'll definitely be without a doubt read more

Today was a really good day, the crust wasn't overdone or charred, I just wished the wings had a little more meat. Pizza and urine don't mix! The place smells like urine. I don't know if the staff is nose-blind to the stench, but it's strong from the front door. I asked an employee about the smell and she said men get drunk and pee under the tables or in the arcade room while waiting for the small bathroom. They need to close for a weekend and seriously, professionally deep clean L&Rs. If this pizzeria/bar was in a large city, as opposed being in tiny migrant town Delano, it would be closed down by the health department. Very low standard place. I'll never be back and I suggest, if you ever suffer the misfortune of spending any time in Delano, try another pizzeria in town. read more

This place SUCKS. It took nearly 50 minutes to get our pizza and that's cause we had to go up to the front counter to ask "wtf? Where's the food?" Only to find it sitting ready to be served. The crust is hard. The chile verde is over hyped, not that great like they make it seam to be. The wings taste like they were frozen prior to heating up and the ranch is Hidden Valley Ranch. Came to this place because We have heard a bunch of good things but we definitely won't be back! Walked in through the bar seemed like a pretty good atmosphere but our big red flag should have been when we walked through the door to the pizza parlor side and the guy was asleep with his belly showing like he was a underpaid security guard and there was only one customer in the building and the rest were attitude filled workers! First customer service sucks! The young girl behind the counter taking our order was rude and bothered by her job. She asked us if we wanted ranch and she was told yes 2 smalls and we got a medium jalapeño and one small ranch. Then she brought out our drinking cups with her fingers inside the cups... that's gross! The Sierra Mist tasted like dirt. Our pizzas sat in the window for at least 10 minutes before we got them which resulted in them being mediocre and cold. The crust was hard like a pie crust and no flavor at all. We got the Chile Verde pizza which is their specialty and needless to say that was not impressing. The food is delicious I love the pizza it's always cheesy and great flavor ! I don't like how it sometimes burnt at bottom but always super good ! I was in town for work, and my co-workers told me I had to try this place for the Chile Verde Pizza, so we ordered a pizza for pick up. We went over to pick it up, and the gal behind the counter told us it had already been picked up. Huh... we were all together - so we told her none of us had picked it up. She got kind of rude and told us again that it was already picked up. There was a guy at the counter that told her to put another order in, it would only take 10 min or so... so she did, we paid - the whole time she was still pretty rude. Alas, we got the pizza and devoured it. I'm sad to say, it was just 'OK'... the crust was pretty cardboardy (which I'm told it needs to be thicker for the sauciness of the toppings)... but the chile verde was just kinda bland and dry. If you like your cardboard loaded with toppings and sprinkled with a brick of salt, or if you're one of the nostalgic clowns who haven't ventured outside of Delano, then this is definitely your spot. Their Chile Verde pizza was supposed to be the highlight of their menu, and at 35$ for a large pie, I was expecting it to be on par with somewhere like Tony's Chile Verde pizza. Sadly, it was not. The pizza itself was a sad excuse for a pizza, you're better off sticking with a DiGiorno if you want a pizza that actually tastes like a pizza. First, the dough they make the crust with has way too much salt in there. I was parched after taking a few bites. Maybe a single slice was intended to be paired with a pitcher of beer? This might actually be how they are staying in business because I don't see any other way. Secondly the Chile verde that decorated my pie reminded me of runny stool one might have after getting food poisoning. Now as one who doesn't judge a book by it's cover, I gave it a try. That was a mistake. The pork was fried completely dry and was so salty, and the sauce which should have been green was brown. All in all, stay away from this place, i would have rated it 0 stars if i could. Seriously 35$ for a pie that is barely edible I'm even scared of feeding it to my dogs! The cashier who told me my order was ready handed me a trash bag and told me it was for the pizza in case the sauce started dripping out. I wish she would have spared me the heartache and just told me that was where the pizza belonged. We ordered the small chili Verde pizza -their the signature- some fries and one large drink..approximately $24.00 After a few minutes our fries arrived, nothing special, just fries. Pizza's here..looked like I remembered it. Ground pork in a green sauce. We bite, and nothing special, we bite again, again nothing special. My boyfriend had this look of disappointment so I asked him what's that look about...he say's "you know when you have high expectations, and when it finally comes and it turned out to be a disappointment, that's this pizza" The vede sauce had a little kick to it but it was to tangy for my taste buds and the meat seemed kinda salty. New in town and always looking for a good pizza place to add to our monthly rotation. This is the second time we order from LR's pizza and once again pizza has disappointed . We ordered a large Pizza half sausage/ pineapple and the other half pepperoni. crust was hard and dry, almost like cardboard. Not good and it doesn't have good flavor. No sauce and very little cheese which could have offset the hardness that was happening on the crust. Sauce / pineapple/pepperoni good. Wings- texture could be crispier, flavor was good, bbq sauce mediocre. Could be better considering all options out there. Lastly- they do not deliver. Specials aren't that great. During these times - small business need to change and evolve with the times to stay relevant. Eventually the crowd that grew up with LR's pizza will be no more. They need to worry about the younger crowd. There is a big shift happening in Delano. Get with the times. Tony's Firehouse pizza, Pizza Hut, round table way better options and you'll get your moneys worth. Sad to say removing this place from our monthly rotation. read more

The owner is very unprofessional and carries an unpleasant demeanor when a customer calls with a question. I drove down here and ordered a chile verde pizza which I had in the past but they did not add enough chile verde this time . I didn't get an answer to why this occurred other than "I sold 12 pizzas already and no one complained" this statement shows he looks at people as numbers and nothing more. Tread cautions if you are not familiar with this pizzeria- they don't give a sh*t. I called back again asked the cashier what the owners name was- she hesitated but eventually said it was Larry. When I think about Chili Verde (C V) pizza, the only place with the best is LRs Pizza in Delano. The creator and 1st to make this style pizza. Some have said Tony's Pizza place was the first, but that would be wrong. Tony's Chili Verde has shredded meat, that is ok. I'm not knocking down Tony's Pizza because the are generous on items on a pizza (OTHER THAN C V) and very much great! However, LRs is fantastic when it comes to C V pizza and their other choices. Their C V pizza is made fresh every day and with chunky pieces of meat. The flavor is awesome! I went by to Delano today and I just needed to get me a large C V pizza to take home. A big big hit.
