They have interesting menu, we got a blood sausage and a tough - it was pretty tasty :) The staff is super nice and friendly, super knowledgeable and have a great suggestions! The atmosphere is very nice! The automatic oak doors really impressed me, thankfully so did the food. Despite being tucked away in a quiet nook and it being Wednesday, it had a great vibe, and I loved the set up. I would strongly recommend the parmigiana eggplant for a starter. It was wholesome, flavoursome, and honestly tasted meatier than if it were a classic chicken parmi. It was easily my favourite dish of the night. Also worth mentioning is the octopus rolled in chorizo crumbs, and the sausage stuffed lamb. Both were cooked perfectly and offered an interesting spin in flavoured meat. I wouldn't call myself a meat lover, but I definitely was that day. If you like meat and smokey BBQ, then LP's quality meats is for you (if you like plain flavoured vegetables...not so much). Their smoked meat and fish are fantastic, the salads are pretty good as well and we really liked 1 of the dessert we ordered (chomuer, sweet maple syrupy gooey pudding with ice cream). We came here on a Thursday night and the place was decently filled, lively but not too intimate with nearby diners. The place is hipster-ish (just the right amount) the food and wine menu was short but sufficient. The only odd thing was the serving size which is a bit inconsistent, hopefully a teething issue that they'll sort out. read more

Came here on a whim with some friends and damn it was a good idea. LP's has a smoker from Tennessee, so their smoked meat came with high expectations, and bah gawd did they deliver. For a BBQ joint, this place is probably the most classy/upscale as the service was great, they seat you and lay your towel in your lap and offer you sparkling water. They offer two different set menu's at $65 and $85 but eff that, we ordered a-la-carte. We ordered the corn, mashed potatoes, 15 hour smoked beef rib and the porchetta. Bah gawd it tasted like heaven...the corn was unexpectedly outstanding, and the mashed potatoes was creamy creamy creamy. The meat's come with sides of mustard, chimichurri and chilli, and I'll say this...you must pair the porchetta with the chimichurri. The beef rib went well with everything as well. The only downside was there was supposed to be a free raffle for a free meat plate but they never did the raffle...liars! read more

Traveling from the States to enjoy Sydney was well worth every minute, except the few I spent at LP's. I was told it is the best deli in the world. After a Death Cab for Cutie concert at the Opera House my son and I jumped in a cab, spent $20+ on the ride, and arrived at LP's 20 minutes before closing. They, however, would not serve us as they had prematurely shut down their kitchen. I was not happy. I will likely never be able to try to eat there and, likely, won't try if I am. If you do, please enjoy yourselves and toast a retired guy in Missouri that was denied service. read more

I've had three meals at LP's and all have been delicious, the veggie dishes as well-prepared as the namesake meats. The beef short rib was more than two of us could manage! But it was so good that we had to come back to try more, and so we got some friends together to take advantage of their chef's menu. At $65 it's not cheap, but for the quality and sheer volume of food it's actually excellent value for money. If you're a Bloody Mary fan, don't miss LP's take on the classic. It used to be served with beef jerky on top, though I was sad to find this no longer the case on last visit. Staff are lovely, decor is nice, it's a bit noisy but well worth it. They also have a meat platter raffle on Friday nights. Highly recommended. read more

I can't say I'm a fan of that strong bushfire taste evident in every mouthful of the beef rib ($44) tonight at LPs. It was so overdone that by the end of a few mouthfuls my lungs felt like I'd smoked a few Winnie Blues ('cigarettes' to those not from the 80's). The lamb belly stuffed with merguez sausage was overpowered by the paprika from the stuffing and was dry as well. It's a confusing place, LPs Quality Meats in Chippendale. They sit you on a low stool in a long German beer hall and then charge fine dining prices (including $2 for a single dinner roll) for lung busting smoked meats. No subtlety but plenty of hipster. My highlight, sadly for the poor animals that died in the making of this film, was the smoked porter beer ($8, from Marrickville's The Grifter Brewery). read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. We were blown away by LP's. It definitely has an odd feel when you walk in - kind of a mish-mash of ecclectic, cool, hipster vibe with dim mood lighting and communal long-table beer-hall setup. We booked in advance as on weekends especially it's known to fill up completely. LP's has nightly "sessions" where you can either eat at 6pm or 9pm. Having kids on our table, we elected for the earlier slot but we were surprised to see it was still teaming with people. Once you're seated it's best not to try to move around too much. The long wooden tables and stools are tightly packed with diners and you will end up elbowing someone on your way through. Our table ordered a variety of dishes (all gluten free to accommodate my allergy) including the belly ham (which was house special of the night and basted in honey, marmalade and a sweet bourbon), pickles (these were assorted vegetables and everyone loved the variety - 10 points for the pickled mushrooms and cauliflower in particular!), smoked sausage, 1kg t-bone steak, mash and gravy and roasted carrots. We had two kids with us, one being a particularly fussy 10 year old who was a bit distraught about what he was going to eat. Well, let me tell you he was RAVING about the t-bone, mash and ham within seconds and wouldn't stop talking about it for days afterwards. The smoked sausage was a little boring, as someone on our table suggested it was just nothing special. The roasted carrots were nice, but not a necessity. Our stand outs were the belly ham and the mash. If you get nothing else, make sure you stock up on a few of these dishes. The mash is the creamiest, most delicious I or anyone else on the table had ever eaten and the ham was succulent and absolutely incredible flavour wise. We were told they would be offering the hams whole to buy over the Christmas season and I was sorely disappointed that I would miss out due to living interstate. I also enjoyed an excellent dirty martini with gin and I noticed there was a great beer selection. We will definitely be going back. read more

LP's is set to close and become a purely wholesale. We had heard this place was good so had to make sure we visited before it's closure.In the backstreets of Chippendale, you will find this neighbourhood restaurant, reminiscent of a German beer hall. It is a huge kitchen and bar encompassing the whole right hand side of the restaurant. The left side has plenty of long communal tables.Staff know their stuff and confidently walk around in their T-shirts, with "LP's Meats" lettered on their backs with high waisted denim to fit the inner city vibe.LP's Quality Meats focuses on their cold cuts, smoked meats and beef cuts. There are vegetables too, which are also very tasty.LP's have a delicious cured ocean trout on the starters list, a generous portion and served with a with cultured cream, the flavour combinations were spot on.The chicken is our favourite - moist meat with a nice smoked flavour, you can order a whole or half portion. The Porchetta is also very good, deboned and cooked in a roll with a thin layer of crisp skin, so very succulent. There are also some dry aged steaks cuts to choose from, we went with the dry aged sirloin, which was cooked as we ordered and served with a lemon wedge, simple and allowing you to savor the flavour of the beef. This was charged per 100g.The sides were all very enjoyable too. The buttered carrots were quite rustic, served whole and were extremely tasty. The asparagus cooked perfectly a bit of crunch and topped with an egg yolk to make it a little more exciting. We also had the butter lettuce and fine herbs, nice and fresh, with plenty of dill which stood out in a good way. The corn on the cobb maybe a little over, also very buttery, and butter does equal flavour.The desserts are spectacularly rustic and the experience topped off by the pudding chômeur (poor man's pudding) - a baked sponge soaked in caramelised maple syrup topped with vanilla ice cream served in a foil tin. Demolished by our dining team in no time at all.This was one of our favourite dining experiences this year and it will be a shame when the restaurant is no more. read more

There is lots to like about this restaurant. The food is superb, the staff are on their game and engaging, the place has a great vibe. But, pick pick pick, it's just a bit too dark and a bit too too loud. Holy crap! Get ready to get your meat-eating game face on. The food here is delicious, servings are substantial and service is impeccable. We opted for the Chef's Menu ($65 per head) and although the price is hefty, it's worth it. My favourite was the blood sausage, it had such a unique taste. The beef short rib fell of the bone beautifully and there was so much meat on that bone, the boys were very satisfied. Thumbs up for the sides as well, the corn on the cob was a star on its own. Service was really on point and the vibe of the place is a bit industrial meets beer hall meets bar dining. Pretty much a required destination if you call yourself a carnivore. Some amazingly well done meat dishes and sides, and the cocktails are pretty good too. I wanted LP's to be amazing. Not only because I'm an avid fan of meat, but because I had gathered a group of friends for B-Dub's birthday. Speaking of groups, I should note that LP's is inflexible with their banquet policy for groups of 8 or more. Even if you are 8 exactly and one is a vegetarian. Meaning only 7 of you can eat 95% of the banquet. They will, however, and to their credit, swap out dishes to meet dietary requirements and requests. There were only 7 of us on the day and we decided to order off the a la carte menu. And order we did. One of everything (well, the meats at least). And plenty of other items too. The roast chicken and the beef tongue were the standouts, while everything else seemed to fall short. The porchetta had only a very thin layer of chewy "crackling", and without trimming and further rendering, I found it much fattier than I would have liked. Service was spotty, with a server we found difficult to flag down and drink orders forgotten. I'm glad I finally got to cross LPs off my list, but I don't think I'll be a frequenting the joint. read more
