    Chicken snitzel and Pork chop

The downstairs was buzzing. Unbeknownst to me, trivia would be conducted. Signage abt this would have helped as I would have loved to be a part of it. Found out re: trivia upon my return home. Could not decide on what to eat as it all looked sooooo good. Was going. Yo default to a Mary's burger, But what's the point of patronising a new establishment without trying a different menu item? So chicken and pork chop were the choices made. The crumbed outside was nice and crunch whilst the inside was juicy. Was pleasantly surprised as its so easy to get this wrong. Serving size was HUGE!! Loved it!! Sat upstairs as downstairs was full. Being a weeknight, had the feel of a weekend without the hecticness. A little bit of a Uni vibe, without it being Gen Y hipster.

Some people just have to take advantage of a good deal - Its the reason those deal sites are so popular. Now steak specials in Sydney have always been hit and miss, some offering free steaks with a beer for a few minutes on a special night of the week, when the moon aligns just right. Too often the rules are simply to confusing "You asked for a sauce on the side, so now the steaks not a special deal steak"... Fringe bar offers $10 great sized steaks all day, all week, every night, no matter what. They'll even ask you how you'd like it cooked (You'd hope so), what sauce you'd prefer on the side - Mushroom or peper, and if you'd prefer chips and a salad. And it doesn't require that you purchase a drink. There's something to do every night here, Monday comedy, Tuesdays trivia, Wednesday chilling with mates, Thursdays Karaoke, Friday happy hour, Saturday markets, Sunday sunsets (live music) The vibe is great for a big group of friends, and even though it can get busy on the weekend, they're always quick with bringing the food and drinks.

The gorgeous art deco Fringe Bar in Paddington is reminiscent of 1920's Paris. Don't you love sweeping statements like that, like I was there?! Anyway that is the vibe I get from the big black & white tiles, plush couches and lavish chandeliers. I often come here for Monday night comedy. Best book the dinner and show package as it's a good deal and finding a seat can be difficult otherwise. The pizzas and salads are really good, especially at the price! The Fringe also has a market on Saturdays, it's fab wandering around a market, drink in hand, checking out the wares from local designers. Great place to find a gift. Other than the comedy and the market though the Fringe isn't really my bag- it can be a meat market and I'm allergic to people with orange skin.

Gotta love a Monday night at Fringe Bar - because its a comedy night :) Think about it - a cool bar - someone trying to make you laugh - friends and a fun atmosphere, what's not to like? BUT what if you're not into smiling or socialising - does Fringe Bra have something for you too - YES - free wi-fi so you can check into World of Warcraft whilst sipping a gin and tonic... Fringe attracts a lot of after work peeps, who've had a tough day and need a drink and a steak... with drink specials between 5 - 7pm and a $10 steak everynight of the week, i can totally understand why this watering hole gets the attention it deserves.... BUT WAIT - there's more? Maybe not a set of steak knifes BUT there's a smaller intimate downstairs bar....so if you want to have a private party, tell your friends to meet you in the basement... On a Saturday night its always packed and I've only had positive experiences... it's a great place to chill and party :)

The Fringe Bar on Oxford Street has such a great feel to it. It has a real art deco sense of style, which I much prefer to the ultra modern style which has become very popular with the more high end places. The also serve $10 steaks and to get any kind of meal in that price range in Paddington is a rare thing. But the thing I am excited about is the Saturday markets. Paddington has a large markets in a school yard up the street, I don't like those markets so much, they are a bit pretentious and snobby, where as these markets are much more Surry Hills, with trendy clothing and jewellery offerings. Unfortunately they are geared more towards women than men, but I really need to stop buying clothes anyway.

The Fringe Bar on Oxford Street Paddington is one for the ages. It's a great dimly lit bar with red curtains that seems to have been around for ever and a day. The decor is quite interesting in itself and even when you go for a tinkle, the posters and artwork down there will keep your eyes busy. Admittingly I can only speak on behalf of the male bathrooms though. From Monday comedy night to pizza night to cocktail night to karaoke night to the weekend markets there is always something happening at The Fringe. Maybe just pop in for a $10 steak. I treated myself to a pizza and although smaller than I had hoped for, it hit the mark. It's definitely worth a look. It seems to be one of those places that, the later you get there the busier it is.

There's always something happening at the Fringe. Whether it's Monday night comedy, Tuesday trivia, Thursday, Friday and Saturday night live DJs, or the excellent Saturday markets, there's always a buzz. I used to love this place when I first moved to Sydney, and although now I've grown a bit tired of it, it's only because I've changed - not the Fringe. ("It's not you, it's me?") The $10 menu (including a mean steak) is a winner and the cocktails are always delicious. While I remember finding it odd at first walking into the Fringe and perusing jewellery on a Saturday morning, then trying on gorgeous dresses in the bathrooms, the markets are worth a look if you like second-hand finds or one-off pieces. A few upcoming designers sell their wares here so it's a great event to support.

Elephant bar (first floor) was relatively empty but the DJ was just warming up with some chilled deep house tunes- this clearly is a better-later-on option. The music from the DJ was piped through second floor and rooftop as well. The second floor was heaving with a private function in one area, and lots of groups filling up the seating for the food (my friend had heard the steaks were good). We ended up going for the $15 burger and fries - which were simple, fresh, came out quickly, and tasty (compared to some other establishments who are trying too hard with their oversized American style burgers). The one down side is the place is very noisy when busy, and I am sure the gloss ceilings are not helping, making it hard to hear our friends in conversations. We also finally managed to get a spot on the rooftop after a few attempts (it is a very small space), which was fantastic and the view of the city was great and topped off the night. All in all a great place to try..

All the NOLA classics were featured, like Vieux Carre (no likey), old fashioned (likey), and hurricane. There were some twists on the classics as well. I liked the newer house specialties, and ended up having 3 drinks, more than I intended. We snacked on some popcorn chicken, which was nothing special, but very satisfying when hungry. We were also lucky enough to be there when the live jazz band played a brief set, which really set the mood. I took off a star because not every drink was a homerun, and the service was a bit too impersonal for a speakeasy. We had a different server each time. One of my favorite parts of going to a speakeasy is to watch the bartenders work their magic and ask them for recommendations, and if I'm lucky, maybe get an off menu drink. Not quite set up that way here.
