First time visit for a friends birthday on the weekend. $10 cocktails from 4-7pm and there is four to choose from! My favourite was the apple crumble and one similar to a lychee martini! A few food options are also half price during this happy hour period! We got to try the margarita and the double brie pizza! Both tasty with lots of toppings. Bar was busy when we first arrived but staff were churning out those cocktails like no tomorrow! Space is a bit small at the front which kinda added to the vibe. They had a guy on a guitar singing out tunes from 7pm. Overall, great first time visit!

A quaint, lil' side cafe away from the hubbub of Manly. It had started to rain so folks sought shelter inside. Finally, a cafe with a lovely outdoor spot had plenty of elbow room... that is until the clouds parted. While we only stopped for french fries, they were fresh and hot. Luckily, InSitu provided a vat of ketchup for the Americans to douse our fries in! Service was super-duper friendly! As a heads-up, InSitu is caddywonk from a hostel. While I saw no riffraff in midday, I question the nighttime when the young-bucks head out to frolic and prey!

Quite simply the best thing about in situ is its versatility - I'm impressed by the number of ways the restaurant/bar/café can reinvent itself. Let's start on a lazy weekend morning. Opening at 9.30, in situ provides its customers with delicious breakfast options. As is often the case, the menu is so full of tempting things that I can't even begin to choose. I get Eggs Benedict and a cappacino and am incredibly satisfied with my choice, although the assortment of pastries and baked goods under the glass are also looking good. Our large group sits under the trees outside and enjoy accommodating service and yummy breakfasts - the ideal start to a weekend! Fast forward to a week day afternoon; getting a coffee with a friend, grabbing a late lunch, whatever you please - in situ turns it on again. The coffee is great tasting, the service friendly and the quietness of the restaurant amazing. I spend an afternoon in an armchair with my laptop and a coffee, and feel thoroughly rested for it. Fast forward again, and it's Saturday night. You'd like to go out for dinner to somewhere with candles and trees, somewhere with great food and live music? Then in situ comes through again; on Saturday nights, the venue hires two beautiful men to play guitars for the diners and the revelers who come later. A nice crowd of young professionals, in situ on Saturday nights is the ideal place to catch up with your girlfriends over cocktails, or grab a nice meal and a bottle of wine with your family.

1/2 price pizza, $5 beer, $10 cocktails any day from 5-7. The pizza is okay, and I'd be upset if I paid full price for it, but tack on some beer or cocktails and it's a great deal overall

    The best chefs in Manly!

We did not have a reservation, but they fit us in as a walk-in at a small coffee table with 2 ottoman seats. Not the most comfortable set up, but I appreciate the cozy atmosphere, almost like you are sitting in someone's very posh and dimly lit den. All the NOLA classics were featured, like Vieux Carre (no likey), old fashioned (likey), and hurricane. There were some twists on the classics as well. I liked the newer house specialties, and ended up having 3 drinks, more than I intended. We snacked on some popcorn chicken, which was nothing special, but very satisfying when hungry. We were also lucky enough to be there when the live jazz band played a brief set, which really set the mood. I took off a star because not every drink was a homerun, and the service was a bit too impersonal for a speakeasy. We had a different server each time. One of my favorite parts of going to a speakeasy is to watch the bartenders work their magic and ask them for recommendations, and if I'm lucky, maybe get an off menu drink. Not quite set up that way here.

Their menu is considered modern Australian with an Italian flair, which is an interesting fusion of cuisines. They have tapas, entrees (appetizer size), mains (larger portions) and sides, which can be shared amongst the table or paired with a main to make for a more filling meal. + GRILLED TASMANIAN OCTOPUS (A$28): The four of us shared this and it turned out to be a tantalizing appetizer! Three meaty tentacles and one flat piece were served on top of n'duja (spreadable pork sausage) with pipes of lime confit on the side. This was my first time having n'duja, which had a smoky flavor from Calabrian chilis that paired well with the grilled taste of the tender octopus. The lime brightened up the dish with citrusy notes. + SEAWEED PRAWN PILLOWS (A$22): While tasty, if I tasted these blindly, I probably wouldn't think of shrimp and seaweed being the two main ingredients. The shrimp and seaweed were finely minced and made into a batter which was then fried into a fritter. They were crispy and light with a soft mochi-like texture inside. Salt on the plate enhanced the flavor even more. + SNAPPER FILLET (A$44): The snapper was delicate, moist and had a wonderfully seared skin. It came topped with a few zucchini blossoms, but that was the extent of the dish, so I'd recommend ordering a side with this. It was placed on a pool of creamy white sauce (which may have incorporated Jerusalem artichoke as noted on the menu) and dollops of black garlic sauce came on top. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the black garlic which had a very earthy flavor that I found too strong and off-putting for the mild fish. The four of us shared a side of BROCCOLINI (A$14) which was a great pairing with all of our mains. It tasted super fresh since the stems still had a nice snap to them. They were simply tossed with extra virgin olive oil, sliced almonds and chili for a hint of heat. My dad enjoyed their spatchcocked chicken and my sister was happy with her sirloin steak. The steak was cooked more than the medium that she requested, but it was still delicious and had a zesty salsa verde. Overall, we had a lovely lunch here. Our meals were wholesome and I could tell that everything was fresh and of pristine quality. It's not fancy or Michelin starred or world renowned, but somehow it manages to find the perfect balance between beach casual and chic, while serving amazing food. We stumbled upon it and popped in for lunch after swearing we weren't hungry for a big lunch. Famous last words, right? We started with the caramel Ed garlic bread and piccolo burrata, both of which were amazing. I wanted to lick the plate but my husband gave me the side eye. Someone at the table next to us had the Prawn Salad, and it looked incredible, so we ordered that to split. The prawn salad is the best salad I have ever eaten, and I eat a lot of salads. There were so many flavors and textures and mouthfeels - the creamy avocado, the crispy salty bacon, the sweet tender shrimp, the light oily vinaigrette, the warm salty halloumi. This is salad GOALS. It was so good that we just went ahead and ordered another entree - the grilled barramundi. It was also delicious, the fish was perfectly cooked, the asparagus was tender but firm, the potatoes were crispy but creamy, and the tang of the goat cheese and sweet roasted tomatoes really made something magic. It was temping to get dessert, but we did stop to check out the breakfast menu on our way out. Also - as a pregnant person, I was so thrilled to see a decent list of mocktails! The Passionfruit Fauxjito was really good and tasted like a true cocktail. This perfect little beach restaurant is so unassuming from the outside, but is worth the stop for the gorgeous views, attentive service, and amazing food!
