When we travel, we always look for bars from the list of 50 best bars in the world. In Sydney, that's Maybe Sammy. It's been on the list for seven years according to our host. It did not disappoint. It is a lively, beautiful and classy space with amazing service and interesting cocktails. The theme is based on the Rat pack of the 50s and 60s and they do a great job of that concept. The menu is a bit complicated but it's all about the cocktails. I had the James Bond, a gin martini that met all my martini expectations. From the moment I walked in the door!!!! Few places embrace you like this. Great staff...who can somehow remember your name 6 hours later!! lol (shout out to Emery) I sat at the bar. And from now on that's the only place I'd choose. The bar men, dressed in their 20's garb, engaged, dressed up their cocktails and put on a show. Front row seat. I went to check it out, stay for a drink but got caught up and stayed for 6 hours. Laughed the time away with strangers I met seated beside me. Cocktails were delicious and creative. The food menu was select and very tasty. The hosts/staff, made it easy and helped guide me through what I might want. Not a cheap night but I got what I payed for and left more than satisfied. Ranked as the #26 cocktail bar in the world in 2024!!! I had a freaking blast here! OMG! Order the BUBBLE DRINK! Hahahaha it's an entire performance the staff puts on as soon as you order "The Bubble," otherwise known as the $15 Lychee Martini. As soon as I ordered the bubble the staff got out their bubble guns and started shooting bubbles across the bar. Then, one of the bartenders got out an Asian umbrella, twirled it around, and gave it to some Asian chicks at the bar. They loved it. The menu is one of a kind. It folds out into a giant monopoly board like menu. I thought I would only stay for a drink and ending up staying 3 hours wanting to try everything here. The drinks are 10/10 PERFECT! Everything I ordered was so delicious. I mean stuff I would never even attempt to order was even delicious. Never been to any bar like this. Up first, I had the $26 Breakfast in bed (Old Fashioned). Literally perfect. Then, I had the $26 Wake Up Call. A little too foamy for me, but taste was on point. After that, the $28 Nightcap. Staff puts a light under this drink with 1 giant ice cube. Staff starts to pour the drink, and then you rub the Viking looking guys belly and bam the drink changes colors for the 2nd half of the pour. Perfect. I tried a $26 pool side. It comes with a fun micro donut on top of the ice. I had a $26 buffet. Literally come here and try every drink. Enjoy the music and the atmosphere. If I lived here, I'd take every date here. This was my favorite bar that I went to on my Australia trip and maybe one of my favorite bars of all time! Very cool menu that follows a board game structure, the bar itself was very upbeat and fun with loud good music. But the best part was the drinks! Super creative and Instagram worthy but NOT gimmicky and actually had substance! Every drink we ordered was so cool! I got the "Buffet" drink which was supposed to satisfy every taste profile - salty, sweet, sour, bitter, umami. It had different salt / sour dips on the side of the glass so tasted different depending where you were sipping from and ingredients included miso & cocoa butter, tomato, gin, black tea, passion fruit. It was the most unique drink I have ever tried and got me into tomato cocktails!!! I will now order a tomato cocktail anytime I see one on a menu! read more

Saw Maybe Sammy was on the best 50 bars list and knew I had to check it out while in Sydney. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a chic and spacious location with bubbles and upbeat music in the background. The menu followed the theme of The Grand Budapest hotel. I got the Aromatherapy, a whiskey based drink, that was smooth and soothing. The service was incredible, our bartender offered us many suggestions of his favorite bars in town. After being recommended this spot by multiple people (one being someone who worked at a different bar), I was excited to try it. The service is very welcoming and attentive. We were given olives and nuts with our drinks which I love. The whole bar is so so cute. The menu alone is a board game and all the drinks are hotel themed, they even give you an explanation of your drink. I got the wake up call which was incredible! Would def recommend & would want to go back to try more of their menu. My partner got something off their classics menu, not their speciality menu, but he mention it being one of the best margaritas he's ever had! Love the spot. So much fun! Everything and everyone is fun and whimsical. We came on a Saturday before dinner; we needed to get out by 5:30 to make dinner, so we stopped by extra early to be sure we got into the first round. We came by at 4 pm and were first in line; if you want your pick of seating, I'd recommend getting here around 4:15 pm. To get into the first round (based on this one experience anyways), you should be fine if you stop by 5 minutes before opening (4:25 pm). The happy hour is amazing - mini cocktails at AUD$7 and oysters at AUD$2 each. I love the mini cocktails! Aside from being a good deal, I love that they were tiny so even someone like me (super light weight when it comes to alcohol) can still have a few! Both the hubby and I had 3 each. =D My favs were the lychee martini, maybe margarita, and Irish coffee. Big shout out to Emery for making awesome cocktails and a fun happy hour! I went for the oysters and left unsatisfied Ok ok, different country = different oysters but I just wasn't a fan. Thankfully, they were on $2 Haply Hour because I left about half of my dozen and a half order. I believe the oysters were from Tasmania and they were served on rocks instead of ice, so they were room temperature not cold ‍ the taste was very fishy and they were large, which I don't love. Drinks we had a martini and whiskey, both were tasty but I prefer my olives pitted in my drinks. The bartenders seemed to enjoy their jobs, which was fun so I'd say give it a try. read more

It's located in "The Rock" neighborhood. From decor, staffs, service to drinks, everything is super tight and fancy. Not a cocktail drinker, but I enjoyed everything I ordered. All of them had good taste and presentation. As for demographic, they were mostly bankers/lawyers. Not a place for shorts and t-shirt. It doesn't necessarily mean that "dress to impress" but dress adequately. (Collared shirts and non jeans would be safe) read more

MAYBE SAMMY IS A MUST!! While on holiday in Sydney, I stumbled upon Maybe Sammy and I am so glad I did as it is now one of my favorite cocktail bars. The concept of this bar is such a fun one, it is a "hotel bar" that is not in a hotel. The theme is executed perfectly as you truly feel like you've stepped into a five-star hotel upon entering. The bar itself is a masterpiece, with bartenders dressed in vintage attire, ready to mix up some of the most whimsical and fun cocktails I've ever had. The creativity behind each cocktail is impressive and adds a layer of entertainment to your night out. All of the cocktails were phenomenal and presented in such a fun way. The bartenders and staff were incredibly friendly and did a wonderful job of playing the role of "hotel bar staff". If you're looking for a unique and memorable night out, this is the place to be. This place goes all in on the 1950s, in the best way possible. There's old school music blaring from the sound system, bartenders decked out in white blazers, and delicious cocktails on the menu. Both the cocktails I tried were fantastic! All the flavors came through, it was obvious they use the freshest ingredients. Lots of skill goes into making these drinks. If the cocktails weren't reason enough to visit (they really should be), I also got a half dozen oysters, and WOW! I finally understand what it means for oysters to be creamy and buttery in texture. They have been well thought out and put together, many of which also have a theatrical component. Think matching hand cream with your cocktail and bubbles atop your glass. We tried a few different cocktails, and they were all delicious! Mr Bojangles - made with Gentleman Jack Whiskey, Cocchi Americano, Peanut Butter, Fermented Honey, Bitters Blue Moon - Ketel One Vodka, Passionfruit, Lychee, Espelette Pepper, White Chocolate Harlem Shake - 24 Hennessy VS Cognac, Mr Black Amaro, Espresso, Raspberry Syrup Once in Lifetime - Ketel One Vodka, Rhubi Mistelle, Toasted Coconut, Coconut Water, Citrus, Bergamot Bubble- this is so cool, served with a bubble! The bar staff are suave in their white blazers, providing a show with their bar skills. Service is attentive and staff have a lot of character. There's some outdoor tables too, and you don't get forgotten. We're impressed that one of the owners, Martin even works the floor, meeting and greeting guests. The interior of the venue is 1950's inspired and feels opulent with its rich green banquettes and stools, pastel colouring and brass fittings. The dim lighting and lamps provides for a sophisticated feel to the place. Owners Andrea Gualdi, Martin Hudak, Stefano Catino and Vince Lombardo have sure made for an unreal bar and we look forward to returning. read more

We had heard such amazing things about this bar and their cocktails. The staff were great on arrival and the cocktails were very good. However, the waiter accidently spilled a tray of glasses which broke and fell on to us. It was an accident and it happens, however there was no offer to comp a drink or a snack. This was not very satisfactory for the level of service you are paying for. And a simple gesture of comping a drink would have changed the whole experience. read more

Well it did not disappoint . From the moment you walk into the very warm yet " cool" bar it feels like an experience . It takes you back in time . I love that drinks come in "minis" so it's similar to a flight ! The presentation of drinks was stunning . Most important was they tasted as good as they looked !
