I had done business with LP3 for a good 3 years before parting ways. I had been impressed with the professionalism and the work was always sound and good. Until an incident that changed the course of things where I decided never to do business with LP3 ever again.
I had a security light on an outside storage building go out and asked my next door neighbor if he'd install knowing he did some work. He agreed and though not an electrician, I figured he knew enough and certainly more than me to replace to light. When he was done, the power in the storage room no longer worked. We both tried to figure out what the problem might be but to no avail. So I called LP3 who arrived the next day. He inspected things and then went to the power boxes and flipped a switch which turned the power back on. It was that simple and took him all of 5 minutes to do. Now I understand that he had to drive here and make time along with whatever other work he had going on. I expected of course to pay something within reason for such a simple problem and for his time. I did NOT expect to be charged $125. I was stunned and unable to think and paid the price. After he'd left, I finally realized how ridiculous an amount that was and felt like even a bigger fool for not disputing it at the time. So I called him and told him how I felt. He explained to me that had I hired him in the first place to replace the light, there wouldn't have been a problem. I argued that even so, it was a ridiculous amount to charge anyone. He offered to lower the price asking me what I thought was fair. I said $50 even though I felt really like it should have been $25. He agreed to the $50 and refunded the difference from the $125 he originally charged.
Bottom line is that I understand his argument and thoughts. However, I as a consumer have every right to hire whomever I want to work for me. As a professional, I thought he'd have been different. And were it not for this incident, I'd still be asking him to continue doing work for me which I still need from time to time. Basically, he was trying to teach me a lesson. What lesson did he learn? He did lose a customer. Replacing a light isn't generally complicated and is why I asked my neighbor to do it since he offered. I would never have hired him to do more complicated electrical work. And LP3 should have understood this....this happened almost 2 years ago. I've meant to write this review for some time and thought of the incident because of the current electrician I have who has been great and professional charging considerably less as well. I gave 2 stars because LP3 does do very good work though pricey. I almost gave 1 star because of the incident above but since he does do good work, I gave 2 stars. read more
