I've had a great experience dealing with LP Gear. I have several vintage cartridges and it is difficult to find quality replacement styli. Out of the several styli I purchased from LP Gear, I had a nude elliptical stylus for a Pickering V-15 suddenly go bad. The stylus had less than 15 hours. I examined the stylus under a microscope and found a jagged fracture where the cantilever exited the plastic grab. I was outside of the 20 day window but LP Gear came through and did the right thing, offering me a replacement, other merchandise or a refund. I would strongly avoid purchasing from this company. I ordered a replacement belt for our turntable, which their listing said would fit our exact model. The belt that arrived was half the size and did not fit. I tried to initiate a return and was told I need to take measurements of our belt and send back the incorrect belt in order to get a replacement. I would be fine with that, but they refused to pay for the return shipping. I sent a photo showing the difference in belt sizes and the model of turntable and was basically told that I wrong because their "database" said the belt they sent me was correct. I even used an AI chat to confirm the correct belt length for my model and showed that to them and they still refused to send the correct replacement unless I sent back the incorrect one on my dime. What kind of return policy is this? Is it even legal? It makes no sense if you order something from a company and they send the incorrect part, the customer should be expected to spend more money to send back the incorrect part just to receive what you originally ordered! Its a borderline scam. I lost $26.83 over the transaction, which of course, isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but still extremely frustrating. Its also shocking that a business would be so petty in refusing to admit to their mistake and try to save $7.00 or so on shipping while losing a customer for life. Don't purchase from this company. It's a gamble. You can't trust them and they will probably only waste your time and money. read more

I've had good luck with this company over the years. A couple of years ago I bought a Cartridge from them on Black Friday that was heavily discounted. At first, I was worried that I had made the wrong move, I thought maybe they will send me a used one or a returned item, or B stock of some sort... When the cartridge finally arrived, I still could not believe the deal I had gotten. It took me about 6 months to realize that the deal was totally legit and that I had gotten a really really good deal on that cartridge. Before that, I had used them for replacement needles for cartridges that no one else carried replacement needles for, or were quite expensive elsewhere. Really wish I read these reviews before purchasing. They had an item in stock that no other stores did (or was more expensive) and I realized it wasn't as helpful to me as I expected, so I wanted to return it. Normal thing to do, right? I have politely messaged them several times to initiate a return over the past week and am getting absolutely nothing. Others have noted the same silent treatment. This is how they do business. Please don't support it and get your items elsewhere. Update: I reached out to them many times in the span of a week and a half to initiate a return with no response at all. When I finally did get a response, I was told there would be a 15% restocking fee, which amounted to $15 for my gently used item that was virtually in the same condition it came in. Their website notes there's at least a 10% restocking fee for EVERY item returned unless it's an exchange. Point being, if you're going to buy from someone, buy it from someone with a modern return policy and good customer service at least. This company is very poor in both areas. read more

I'm sad to say, I received a new stylus form a different company, installed it, and it works perfectly. The issue with the stylus from LP Gear had nothing to do with tracking weight adjustments. It was a low quality or defective piece of equipment. All of the trouble I have been through to simply play a phonograph album was for nothing. They say they tested it after I sent it back. How, then did it never work for me, yet the new stylus, which I purchased for less than half what LP Gear charged me, worked instantly, with no adjustments necessary? My previous review, my previous opinions, are to say the least offended by the fact that LP gear clearly sold me low quality electronics. Even after providing photos of the faulty item, they still question everything :( And made me go through their never ending RMA process saga... Had to "pay for return shipping for the faulty stylus to be assessed, and in case it isn't approved, (I) would still need to pay for return shipping, to get the same stylus back (to me)". - The item is clearly faulty and the international return shipping alone, costs the same as a new stylus, no to mention new international shipping costs to get a new stylus, again !! Buyer Beware! I was sent a replacement stylus that did not fit my Rega Carbon cartridge, one the company claimed would fit. Not only was customer service horrendously slow, incompetent and ultimately non helpful, they would not honor a refund on some cooked up claim the stylus was damaged- a claim they based on their corrupt business practices as they did not see the stylus once shipped to me. Whoa, lots of bad reviews, had I read them I may not have ordered through LP Gear. However, I did, they had the stylus I was looking for at a reasonable price. Carrie at customer service emailed to confirm there was nothing suspicious about ordering from my address and having sent to my son in another state. I responded that it was legit and joked that they could gift wrap as well, they responded that they would and here is the tracking number. I bought two things from LP Gear. The first was an LP cleaning set -- for some reason they included a half dozen branded pens in a Tiffany colored case? Weird. The second was a $67 stylus that I discovered later, probably because of my incorrect ordering, wouldn't fit my turntable. I asked about it, and they responded to queries. I carefully wrapped the product in multiple layers of bubble wrap and returned via USPS . "TL;DR version: Bought an over-priced replacement stylus from LP Gear, received a cheap Chinese stylus is poor and unusable condition, LP Gear would only offer 50% refund "out of goodwill." My suggestion: Buy from Amazon or a local retailer instead. The owner of LP Gear is not as unresponsive as many have claimed, but I found their return policy and, most importantly, the quality of their styli to be unacceptable. I ordered a replacement stylus for my turntable because my old one was skipping over finer grooves on 180g vinyl. The description of the item stated that it would fit my turntable, which it did once it arrived, but the sound was very distorted. It was a cheap Chinese replacement on top of that, and DEFINITELY not worth the $38 they were asking for it. No matter how much fiddling it took, there was no fixing this issue because the stylus they shipped me was bent (perhaps in transit, or perhaps it's a returned item they resold for profit). In any case, I asked for an RMA (returned merchandise authorization number) and shipped it back to them via Priority Mail (~1-3 days). About ten or more days later, I e-mail them asking about it. The next morning I received an e-mail saying that the item was returned bent and that they could only offer a 50% discount on [another purchase.] Totally ludicrous. I already bought a new Audio Technica needle from Amazon for $9 and it worked great compared to the one LP Gear sent me, so I stuck to my guns and e-mailed back saying that the item was sent to me in unusable condition in the first place and that I deserve a return. In the end, they were only offering me a 50% refund "out of goodwill." Do yourself a favor and read these reviews of LP Gear carefully. I suggest avoiding this business if you're looking for quality stylus replacements, but I can't speak for their other items. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before ordering from this "company." I ordered a hard to find Audio Technica cleaning kit AT6017 along with a few other items. I received the other items but incorrectly received fluid for stylus cleaning. I went through their RMA process: had to provide photos of the wrong item and packing slip, waited to receive a shipping label, shipped it back, waited while they processed the RMA and then waited longer while the correct item was supposed to be shipped. I then received a SECOND incorrect stylus cleaning fluid even though the receipt indicated the correct part number. There is no number to contact them and I'm at the mercy of e-mail to try and discuss this. I'll be contacting my credit card company to get my money back as I don't trust them to handle a refund correctly. Then told me I had to pay to ship it back. 2 weeks of them nit responding to me asking why I had to pay for shipping and they finally send me a pre-paid label. 2 weeks later they refund me minus the shipping fee and minus a re-stocking fee. A re-stocking fee on an item I never ordered cause again they sent me the wrong thing. 2 more weeks and I had to open a case with Paypal. Then they finally refunded me. I can understand the bad reviews. I ordered a belt for my turntable, one of the most popular high- end models on the planet (Michell Gyro.) They sent me the WRONG belt- a 40" belt instead of the 36" belt used. To return it, they expect ME to not only pay RETURN SHIPPING, but ALSO a 15% RESTOCKING CHARGE!!--- For THEIR mistake!! Plus, they are very expensive ($30.00 for the belt, $6.00 for the shipping- it weighs about 2 oz.) $36.00 for a large rubber band that costs them, I'm sure, about $2.00. They buy them in huge bulk and then package them when received in small "dime bags." So they are also paying next to nothing for packaging. What a racket! They can make a great profit just sending everybody the wrong parts, and keeping 15% on every sale free and clear! It's at the very LEAST unethical, and possibly worse. I will check into it. And I will NOT give up on this 15% "thing". I will be in contact with my credit card's bank to dispute the charge. And I will continue to get the word out regarding this unethical, immoral policy. Although not usually cheaper (except for shipping),- none of these "audiophile" sites are- I have had excellent service from Needle Doctor. I believe they have been around about 40 years, in my dealings have EXTREMELY knowledgeable and friendly sales reps that take the time on the phone, and returns are NEVER questioned. I even exchanged a $600 cartridge with a stylus I accidently broke when installing and they gave me credit NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I received an quick email asking for several photos of my turntable stylus but they never did tell me which one to order . After three emails asking for more photos but no information, I decided to order the one listed for my Denon turntable. I received my order quickly but it is a cheap after market plastic and not at all what I was expecting and it does not fit my turntable . I found the correct part on Ebay with photos of all views which is the only way to see it's the right one. Indeed i've been looking for them all over the internet for weeks and i manage to found them with LP GEAR. ( this model is out of production ) The price was very Competitive for a new product ( on amazon people sold used model of an older version twice of the price of the new on LP GEAR ). My order was put on 11 / 11 / 11 and today the 24/11/11 i've finaly got them ! Because i live in France and that our postal system is slow as our administration system it took even more time for the product to be ship to my place once in France than it was for it to cross the Atlantic Ocean !! Stylus was poorly packaged and damaged during shipping. Looked as if it had been stepped on. I paid to return the stylus and the shattered packaging and they claimed it was my fault(in effect, calling me a liar). Second one arrived damaged as well, but now they refuse to replace. There's a reason they don't have reviews for their products on their site. I would suspect they'd be mostly poor. Beware of these guys. There are plenty of other places to get needles. read more

i ordered a needle from them for my audio technica lp60 turn table.... it was supposed to be "the best drop in replacement i could get for the turntable) http://www.lpgear.com/product/LPGATN3600DLXHE.html it makes sense because of the shape of the needle... i paid 80 bucks for it... when i placed my order first off... i kept checking my shipping info... and for 4 days it kept on saying "processing" i contacted then about it and they said will fix that for you... which they did, my order was actually shipped the day i ordered it... but for what ever reason they didnt change the status of my order... so for a little while i was mad about this.. but was happy once they "fixed" it.... when the needle got here i seen the ups guy carelessly throw my package on the ground... probably because the package didnt say "fragile on it" which it should have..... i was irritated by this... not to mention when i got it inside my house... it was in a crummy box... without good packaging... even looked like it had been crushed at one point... (i dont think ups is 100 percent to blame though, used them hundreds of times with out an issue) inside the box it had... no packing peanuts no foam/fabric nothing what so ever except for the plastic case and the foam inside of the plastic case that the needle body sat in ( the foam wasen't even all that soft to cushion the blows of shippment to begin with...) i guess they some how think that was enough to protect something so fragile....the only thing my needles box was packed in... was cheap crappy rapping paper...like dollar store gift wrapping paper... not even a lot just a tiny bit... it was barely being held snuggly in the box, it was able to move freely around inside... (why would you even use that to protect a needle even IF IT WAS IN A TINY BOX?! like come on... how stupid can you be... i spent money i didnt really have... 80 bucks is a lot for someone who is struggling (music is my life... thats why i went with the so called (better needle) this makes me wish i didnt go out on a limb and buy the (good needle) should have just got the cheaper 25 buck replacement instead so... i would not have wasted an additional 55 bucks... which could have been used for other things... i really just wanted for that turn table to sound good to help me destress and give my self a little treat.... so i figure id splooge a little bit more money...) this situation really ticked me off and continues to do so... i feel like i got taken advantage of and also got cheated out of my money.... i sent them a email again to their customer support... at 1:37 am yesterday... and have not gotten a reply yet.. even though the issue about the shipping was handled within a few hours... so i was thinking that this situation would have been the same... guess not... this is one of the biggest problems with online shopping... if this was a actual store where i actually walked into to really buy the needle physically with cash in my own hand.... i would have went back there and MADE SURE I GOT MY MONEY BACK.... and they would have given it back to me trust me on that.... but they decide to be unprofessional wimps and hide in a online world... furthermore to hide like little children and not be a respectful business and uphold their so called quality standards.... i live in pa.. their hq is in nevada i think... so theres really even no way that i could get there haha... what a joke... this isnt right... and there has to be a way for me to get my money back... it cant be just (gone)... honestly they should pay for the shipping to.... this is illegal.. its like i got my money stolen by false advertising.... in a few days if they dont respond ill find a way to get my money back one way or another... really.. if anyone has a idea on what i should do.. seriously... drop a message by on here and ill be checking up on it every now and again..., im never buying from these people again.... nor will i tell anybody about them... read more
