their phone tree has gotten even worse. the guy writing about "Orangeburg NY is well-laid out and convenient." would not make sense, but they are essentially the same store, so, I guess it counts? they have a wide selection, and their drug testing policy has always made a big impression on me -- they hire people they have to test, a lot! or the company leadership is just grossly misguided. I don't care if someone drinks or smokes, legal or illegal, as long as they are not altered when I come in. they certainly have more convenient hours than the Ace Hardware. read more

I attempted to call the store to find out how to pay if I ordered an appliance online. I could not get past the automated system. When I attempted to contact somebody in the appliance department, it rang for eight minutes without being picked up. We ended up going to the store, and headed to the appliance department. We stood around for 10 minutes and nobody appeared so finally we asked another employee to please find somebody and a woman appeared to help us. We ordering the appliance and paid for delivery and installation. The delivery people brought the wrong dryer drove away and two hours later called me to tell me that it was the wrong dryer. They came back, switched dryers and would not install it properly. It is the last appliance I buy at Lowe's! read more

They are horrible, don't use them for any installed services. We had them do our fence, there were numerous delays, wrong pieces delivered, overcharges, and terrible communication. When you call their "800" number, you just get apologies and empty promises. When you call their store, they say they will check into it and never call you back. Once they have your money, you are at their mercy, and they basically recycle you around and around. read more

Terrible experience here with a window installation. The store manager, Josh, is an enigma; he apparently runs the place but it took me many many times of calling and stopping there to ever speak with him. When I finally did, he was uncaring and unapologetic for the subpar finished product, months of delays, misinformation and downright lies I was told by several of the other managers of this Lowe's (Sharon and Ryan specifically passed along blatantly false information and never followed up despite assurances they were handling the matter). The store manager stated, "I've worked for Lowe's for a long time. When we screw things up, we tend to really really screw it up". Would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. This was among the largest individual purchases my wife and I have ever made in our lives beyond our house and vehicles; to have it botched at every level and to feel like even the store manager had zero concern for you issue was extremely disheartening to say the least. They were happy to cash the whole check and say they'll handle every aspect from purchase to installation, but when something goes wrong you'll spend hours of your life learning about how Lowes does business and why it's someone else who messed up this time. Won't be returning to this location for anything, let alone trusting them to complete any type of large project. I will say; Larry the installer at least set clear expectations and followed through. My opinion is that he is severely over extended by Lowe's. Also, Adam, another manager, was great at his job. He was among the only managers I spoke with that I actually felt possessed some level of empathy for how Lowe's handled the entirety of this installation. read more

I live in Missouri. Every time I visit the Lowe's website, they insist I live in some town called Altoona. While there are several towns called Altoona in the US, none of them are in Missouri. I cannot change this on the Lowe's site. I DO have an account, but my real address is ignored. Hence, it is impossible for me see what the local selection is. God forbid you have to call and ask them anything over the phone. They will make you come in. In store help takes forever. Weeks ago paid for same day delivery. Didn't happen. Was told would receive a call to sort out. That didn't happen. Placed another order for pick up. No one showed for me to pick up in parking lot 2 times. Placed 3 rd order for same day delivery. Never came. Called to ask where my order was the following day. I mean... it's a Lowe's - what do you expect? Typical big box store with the fixings: hardware, appliances, paint, tools, lumber. I frequent here for my job and our home reno projects and have found my experiences be neither good nor bad; they're just a visit to Lowe's. Service is always nice and polite, though sometimes they clearly don't know what they're doing/the advice they're giving (we were recently looking for shop-vac extension tubes... and the lady helping us sent us to plumbing. She had the best intentions, but no, shop-vacs and their parts are not going to be by the toilets). But most people are super friendly and will offer advice if they've done similar projects (the ladies in the paint center almost always recommend me a color, or tell me about their most recent paint job in their house) Also, if you're planning on being here frequently, they do offer a Lowe's credit card that gives 5% off. This review is for John in appliances. That man should be promoted. He went above and beyond to fix a problem that can fully be blamed on a new computer system and poor front end management. He actually cares about the customer and made sure we didn't get the 1-800 number run around front end management said we needed to do to fix their mistake after we spent several thousand dollars on appliances. I have written a negative review about Lowe's in the past, but I want to say that they have really impressed me lately. Now when we go to the store ( usually later in the day or at night), there are plenty of willing employees around to give you a hand or help you find what you are looking for. One employee went out of his way to find something we were looking for, to the point where we were willing to just give up but he kept insisting he would find the item ( and he did!). Not sure about the negative reviews for this Lowe's...but like the raven in Poe's immortal story it really spoke to me. Actually, the friendly and helpful staff comprised of retired tradesmen spoke to me in a helpful, courteous, and professional manner. As someone who has trouble hanging a picture on a wall, it is a tremendous boon to have a guy who knows what he's doing guide you to the right tools and parts to do your job. And for this project, cleaning a frat bedroom, gloves, buckets, mops, dust masks....hell, full bio-hazard gear was called for. It was move-in day at PS, so I actually made two trips here to get the goods, and happily wandered about the store gathering up a diverse supply of stuff to get the frat room just right. By just right I mean marginally above the point at which the health department would condemn it, and slightly above the level at which hitting it with a flamethrower would've been more cost effective and efficacious. Really though, Poe would've had a field day writing a short story of cleaning a frat bedroom and the unspeakable horrors that one finds. I will spare you the gory details...no on second thought I won't. Used condoms, decaying food everywhere, inches of dust and dirt, broken furniture, the hallways impassable with debris and trash, and the bathroom with vomit on the floor that patrons had blithely wandered through. When asked if I would ever again do such an extensive cleaning of so horrific an abode, my one response was: Nevermore. read more

The value of your trip to Lowes is directly proportionate to the staff you encounter each trip. There are some friendly, knowledgeable, helpful folks working here. And then there is everyone else. Go on a good day and find the right people to help you and I think Lowes is a great place to find almost everything you need. Go on a bad day or get someone who just doesn't give a shit? I tend to shop here over Home Depot because of the layout and brands. Hardware is well attended and staffed, as are specialty areas (cabinets, lumber, appliances, and curtains) but many other areas are lacking. Paint is hit or miss. Either a 5 star experience or a 1 star, nothing in between. advance ordering online with in store pickup is awesome. Overall, my go to, but Home Depot could lure me away if they continue to have awesome service like my last few visits. read more

I have shopped at this Lowe's store multiple times. Normally, I would be pretty nervous exploring the aisles with seemingly endless supplies of items not familiar to me. However, workers like Ed in the paint department go above and beyond in seeing lost souls around the store like me, taking the initiative to go out of his way and ask me if I need any help finding anything, in addition to if I had any questions about any paint-related items. After sharing some of my questions and concerns about my project, Ed went out of his way to show me around the paint section, teaching me about how some of the paints are mixed, about their qualities, and which paint would best suit my specific needs for the project I was working on. The kindness and compassion Ed displayed to me, in conjunction with the knowledge he provided me about paint, makes me feel like a valued customer and interested in shopping at this Lowe's store. I would recommend this Lowe's to anyone with housing needs, and I would go back to this Lowe's specifically even if I had to drive a farther distance due to hard-working, passionate people like Ed who make it a point to show kindness and support to customers in need. read more

In recent years, the customer service in this State College store has gone seriously down hill. I'm in the store twice a week. The people working the return counter are not friendly. Many people on the floor don't know what they have or where it's at. The Lowes website can tell you what aisle and section your item is in much better than the employees can. Lowe's installed the wrong water heater at my house and refused to take any responsibility. It's a long story but here it is: I went to Lowe's to purchase an electric residential water heater. They gave me a 1-800 number to call, as the water heater installation is done via a separate entity (1-800-heaters) that collaborates with Lowe's. Called 1-800-heaters and asked for a price quote for a 50 gallon electric water heater with 12 year warranty. They gave me a quote, which I found reasonable. I asked them to proceed with the order. They sent me a PDF file that had the order details (model number, installation cost, etc.). The numbers looked good and I asked them to install it. A few days later a local installer working on behalf of 1-800-heaters installed the water heater (they charged me $300 more for plumbing needed to install the water heater). When I asked the installer about the 12 year warranty, he said the water heater has a 6 year warranty. I immediately called Lowe's customer service, left my number for them to call me back (which they did not). Filled out an online form on Lowe's website as well (again no response). Kept calling Lowe's and eventually spoke with a rep. She sent me 1-800-heaters way. They said the model number in PDF order 'clearly' specifies that the warranty is 6 years. So, instead of specifying the warranty in plain English, they apparently expect the customers to know that 'E6' in model number 'E6-50H45DV' means 6 year warranty. I told them that I'm not a water heater expert and I just asked for one with a 12 year warranty. They were rude and refused to help. I called Lowe's and the rep was rude as well and sent me the manufacturer's way. Manufacturer said I should contact the installer. Anyways, after 1 week of making multiple calls per day, no one was willing to take responsibility and I ended up paying nearly $2000 for a water heater I had not ordered. I have been a long time Lowe's customer. But going forward, I would NEVER buy anything from Lowe's and will report Lowe's and 1-800-heaters to the Better Business Bureau. read more

This place is hit or miss. Most times it's a miss. Too many employees ignore the customers. I went into the store today needing to purchase some hardware including hinges, bolts and washers. The employee I approached for assistance was not interested in helping me find the product I needed. I ended up leaving and driving over to Ace Hardware off of South Atherton Street. I typically shop at Home Depot across the street but I found I needed something that Lowes had in stock. I must admit how much I have come to appreciate HD because my wife and I found the Lowes staff to be AWFUL at listening and customer service. One staff member looked right past me at the service desk and walked away when I was the only one there. Others were quick to argue about something without bothering to check or look further. This is so old school, a throw back to the way customers were treated everywhere in the 70s-80s in retail. Even Weis Markets seems to have gotten the message with its staff. read more

Was in this store last week and happened to see a person walking about with a poorly behaved young dog on a leash. Since dogs are generally not allowed in stores I mentioned it to a salesperson. I was told that the manager wouldn't ask the dog owner to leave as he "didn't want to offend" her. I told the clerk that I was offended, and would leave the store; which I did. This is not the first poor experience I received at this Lowe's. I had purchased a rather expensive Kitchen Aid dishwasher there a couple of years ago. Within a month the control panel malfunctioned. I called Lowe's and they sent out a service person who had to order a part - took several weeks - then several more weeks to make an appointment to install. About a month later the new control panel broke - and went through the same thing. Again, the panel broke at which time I demanded a refund. After much haggling the manager agreed to refund my money after the dishwasher was picked up from my home. At that time I returned to Lowe's for my refund and was told that they would not refund my money but would give me a store credit. I refused and finally a cash refund was agreed to. The clerk refunded $901 in $10 bills. I still have the picture of the pile of bills!!!! No more big box stores for me for appliances. From now on I will shop at local dealers. read more

So I went to Lowe's to make a purchase. Cash in hand. Knew what I wanted. I was in the appliance section the female appliance specialist was so rude I almost left. She and her co worker were just shooting the breeze about personal things ( I could hear their discussion) and actually ignored me as well as about 10 other customers. Then they went through the aisles taking about inventory and continued to ignore the customers. There were at least 5 couples plus me. So I went in search of help. By now I had been there 15 minutes. I found a guy who was willing to help but he couldn't find the item that was supposedly in stock. So guess what he had to get the appliance specialist she proceeded to rudely tell him the stock is on display so we'll have to order one. Best we can do is get it here within a week. By this time I had waited 45 minutes. It was the worst customer experience I've had in a long time. So I drove over to home D and had what I wanted, loaded into my car at a better price in less than 15 minutes. Go figure. Guess where I'll shop from now on read more

My husband and I have been shopping at Lowes since we built our home 15 years ago. We have taken the do it yourself classes they offer. The staff is very knowledgable and informed. One thing is keeping me from rating them 5 stars. My husband is a veteran and they offer veteran discounts. We recently had a very rude cashier that looked at his military ID and said it was expired. And she wasn't giving him the discount. Another cashier saw/heard what was going on and pointed out he is still a veteran even if his ID expired. She refused. My husband and I went to the service desk and received the discount. What happened to thank you for serving our country? 12 years active duty, fought in Operation Desert Storm and 4 years reserves....doesn't matter if your ID is expired. read more

Unfortunately, we made a mistake engaging [[ Lowe's Home Installation Services]]. This is a service center inside the store that is managed by the corporate office, it is not local. We ordered new bathroom fixtures, counter, and repair broken tiles. Result? Delays, lack of coordination (between staff and sub-vendors), multiple visits (confusion, no project management expertise), poor attention to details (colors and tiles not matched), finishes were unprofessional, poor craftsmanship (sloppy, uneven (rushed work). Management by corporate was a disaster! No single point of contact no quality controls. After three visits by over 12 people (too many cooks, nobody leading the project), we are left with a poor amateur looking bathroom. Tears, groans, and nothing but excuses. We hope someone will read this and not engage their services. We hate to see anyone else go through the headaches we experienced with this poorly organized, executed, and mismanaged service. read more

I just visited the state college lowes . I went there to return a jointer. The one clerk was helpful but mentioned it was past the 90 day return policy . She stated there was a new group managers . She asked the other girl and she came over and tried to berate me and talked to me like I was a 10 year old . She continued her rant . Finally I asked to speak to a manager . He resolved the issue. But this third. Time I have encountered a problem like this in a month there. The store has all new managers . They are the rudest bunch I have. Encountered . I have been shopping at. Lowes in state college for 15yr as I'm a contractor. I think my days of shopping there are over. The people on the floor are great but the managers are terrible to say the least. Lowes did it again, I gave them one last shot to redeem themselves, they failed on a very basic level. On October 15, I ordered a special sized storm door and an awning kit. I was informed by the sales person at Lowes State College Store that I could choose to have my special order delivered to the store or my home, I chose my home. The awning arrived 10 days later via UPS, the storm door for some reason was delivered to Lowes store, however Lowes neglected to contact me about that, so I had to contact them today (11/3/16) to find that out. I used Lowes for 3 projects this past summer, they screwed up all three. Now it occurs to me the problem is either: 1. I expected professional competence for the money I was paying. 2. Lowes State College store management is totally incompetent, absolutely clueless about their customer complaints.. or 3. Lowes decided to single me out for special punishment for writing a lousy YELP review. Now considering Lowes HQ resolved my 2nd issue by transferring the resolution of the problem to its Altoona store, I think the problem resides with the management team in the State College store. One thing I am certain of, 3 strikes and you are out. I will no longer have to post reviews of Lowes on Yelp, because after 36 years of doing business with them, I'm done.
