I would like to express my extreme dissatisfaction with a flooring project completed through Lowe's Service Pros involving the installation of 854 square feet of LVP flooring in our condominium located in Myrtle Beach. Let me start by saying my wife and I have completed several major home improvement projects over the years, including remodeling a condominium, renovating a ranch-style home, and building a new custom home with a local builder. During that time, we have worked with a minimum of 30 different contractors. I can say without hesitation that this flooring project with Lowe's has been, by far, the worst experience we have ever encountered. I could not have imagined a project going as poorly as this one. From the beginning, the project was plagued by issues that caused significant frustration, inconvenience, and disappointment. The level of communication and professionalism fell far below the standards we expected from a company like Lowe's. Instead of a smooth and professionally managed installation, the process became stressful and unacceptable. I would like to say the workmanship of the contractor hired by Lowe's was pretty good. We chose Lowe's because of its reputation and because we believed using Lowe's Service Pros would provide accountability and quality assurance. Unfortunately, our experience has been the exact opposite. This project has left us extremely dissatisfied, and I believe Lowe's should be made fully aware of how poorly this was handled. Key Issues with Project: 1. Initial Contract Errors (March 4) I was overcharged and misquoted, including: * Labor overcharge, charged for 940 Square feet of install when actual was 854 Square Feet: $171.14 * Removed non-required under-layment material and labor items: $1,909.40 * Double charge (toilet fittings): $81.06 * Under-ordered flooring by 10 percent, (causing delay) These were acknowledged and corrected--but they set the tone for poor project management. 2. Forced Mid-Project Up-charge (March 19) This is my strongest complaint point. After my floor was torn out, I was told I had to approve following to level floors: * 22 OSB boards: $549.56 * Labor (Custom Work Vinyl MRV): $5,094.00 This was problematic due to: * I was in a compromised position (no usable floor) * Labor increased 548% as compared to original quote error of installing 30 under-layment boards. This figure is extremely disproportionate to materials. Questioned up charge based on the following, Added flooring 73% of original material, 22 sheets vs 30, 56% of material cost, $549.56 vs $980.40, but labor increased 548% from $929 to $5094. I feel I was taken advantage of. * No meaningful opportunity to: Get a second opinion Decline work Pause project This can reasonably be argued as coercive up-selling 3. Damaged Materials (March 20) * 5 boxes unusable delayed completion * I must travel 14-15 hours each way from our home in Western New York to Myrtle Beach. * Estimated personal cost: ~$1,000 This is Lowe's responsibility, not mine. 4. Poor Communication & Delays (April 8-15) * Multiple promised callbacks none delivered * Conflicting notifications (pickup vs delay) * I had to repeatedly chase updates This shows service failure and lack of accountability My Financial Impact (Estimated) * Questionable labor up charge: ~$4,000+ excessive * Travel costs: ~$1,000 * Time + inconvenience: significant While initial contract errors were corrected, I was placed in an unacceptable position on March 19 after my flooring had already been removed. At that point, I was informed additional work (OSB installation) was required and had no practical ability to decline, as my home was left without usable flooring. Based on initial quote, the associated labor charge to install 30 boards of premium under-layment increased from $929 to $5,094 to install 22 boards of OSB. This is a 548% increase, which is disproportionate to the material increase and was not disclosed during the measurement or contract phase. This raises serious concerns about the accuracy of the initial assessment and fairness of the charges imposed under those conditions. I have inquired several times with Lowe's for an itemized breakdown of increased labor cost which they will not provide. Additionally, damaged materials delayed completion of the project, requiring me to incur approximately $1,000 in travel expenses to return and complete the installation. Despite multiple assurances from Lowe's staff between April 8-12, I did not receive promised callbacks regarding this issue. Do not use Lowes for kitchen installation ! I hired Lowes to install 2 new kitchens in rental properties. Big mistake. So far 7 months and counting. The new cabinets were shipped to the properties in the same complex and install immediately. Unfortunately they were the wrong cabinets. Lowes had to come back to uninstall cabinets, order new cabinets and install correct cabinets. This process took about 6 weeks. Communication has been atrocious ! No response from voicemails or emails for weeks. It literally took months to get someone back for punchlist items with regards to the cabinet installation. Now waiting for them to come back again to complete punch list items. I am told I will be compensated for my dissatisfaction but I'm sure it won't satisfy me ! Reducing rating to 3 stars. Went to store tonight around 8pm to get a soffit vent. Lowes app says they have 12 in Aisle 17 Bay 24. While looking for the part, an employee is stocking the shelves there. I ask for the soffit vent and he says to check in roofing or plumbing section. Figuring he should know since he is working that section, I go. I check roofing and then go to the other end of the store to plumbing. In plumbing another employee tells me the part is in Aisle 17, where I started. So I head back, again, to other side of store. The original employee I spoke to first is still there and he avoids eye contact and doesn't ask if he could "help" again. I scan shelves and employee leaves. I continue my search but no shelf tag or box indicates my goal. Then I see the vent in a box of other types of vents. I grab it and it is an open package as well as in wrong box. She wanted to stop in to browse around, particularly the gardening department. They have a rack of clearance flowers and bushes near the back of the department--you can find good deals on it. We were signed up for delivery of an in stock stove and refrigerator was ordered. Delivery scheduled in 7 days. We prepared, emptied refrigerator, cleaned old appliances, moved furniture to allow delivery. Waited and waited.... We were to receive a call to schedule time, window 12 to 4. 1:30 , no call. We called delivery and we were told they couldn't find the stove so cancelled delivery the day before without any notification to us. We were very angry, all food removed from refrigerator and furniture moved. We were told we can deliver in another week. I recently purchased a Kolbolt air compressor tool item number 125237. It was a defect. The cost was $22.00 and did not save my receipt for a twenty dollar item. It was purchased at the Myrtle Beach store located on Highway 17 Bypass, Myrtle Beach , SC. I returned to the store with valid ID but no receipt. I spoke to Gail who took my ID did a few key strokes and informed me that I can not get a store credit without a receipt. I did not want cash only store credit to immediately purchase other items. I had already replaced the defective item with another brand. At that point Patrick got involved and then the alleged store mgr. Chris. All did the same thing informing me no receipt, no credit. This consumed 30 minutes of my time. I called the corporate phone number and spoke with Joya and received the same result. I now have 45 minutes invested in this. Joya had taken my information. On Monday I spoke to Matt ( Store mgr. ) . He told me to come to the store to see if he can help me. What I needed him to say .....come to the store and I will give you store credit. I do not have time to be spent negotiating Store credit with 5 employees. The day will come when all employees involved especially Matt will learn what good customer service is about. We went here to try to choose our tiles and vanity and other items for a recent bathroom remodel. THey had a large selection. MOst of which wasn't in stock or the boxes had lots of broken tiles in them. Staff wasn't knowledgeable and rarely helpful. I visited the store to check on the delivery after calling the warehouse and getting the same message over and over again, nothing more. Below is the recent letter I sent to Lowe's corporate on the Seaboard SC store: Honestly, I don't know if it's possible for one store to be so incredibly incompetent. My husband and I are remodeling our home in Myrtle Beach SC and have tried to work with the Seaboard store only to time and again run into people who have zero idea how to do their job. In December we ordered carpet and a screen door. The carpet that came in was not correct even though I stood at the counter with the correct carpet repeatedly asking if the salesperson had gotten the right SKU because the manufacturer had the same name on several items. Fortunately, I had taken a picture, so when the wrong carpet came, I could go in immediately to talk to them. It still took over a week for them to order the correct carpet and 2+ weeks for it to arrive for installation. Also, in December a screen door was ordered. The one installed in Jan was damaged, someone was sent out to inspect the door right away. However, it took 3 more weeks for a replacement door to ordered, when my husband called, he was told "oops we forgot to reorder." Needless to say, we still have not received it. We have been to the store so many times to get updates we've quit counting; one time we were told they only had one person capable of handling orders in the door department and she worked part-time. Finally, on 2/24 we ordered a double sink vanity that was delivered on 3/7 with the top smashed in. I called immediately and was given a case number (08188328), I called the Seaboard store in MB on 3/8, and an assistant manager told me she would work on getting another from the manufacturer and that she would stay in touch. I called back on 3/9 and was told they were waiting to hear back from manufacturer - I asked if they would be picking up the damaged item and was told they would call me back - nothing. Today, 3/10, when I called, I was told until they picked up the damaged item, they could not order a replacement, and that no one was trying to contact the manufacturer. Why did it take 4 days to give me this information, why did someone not start the procedure for pickup immediately? These are of course rhetorical question that I do not expect you to be able to answer, but rest assured there is one question I can answer, why do I keep using Lowe's? I went to the kitchen department to get a price on cabinets as we were replacing our old ones. I picked out the cabinets, provided a drawing and pictures of the kitchen. I was told someone would figure out the price and contact me within a day or two. I went back home to PA. Returned to the store 10 days later.
