    They ship your candy
    J David H.

Lowery's Candies was one of my early reviews and it's long overdue for an update after eight years. Recently I received a card in the mail that it was time to order for Easter. Since I'm on their mailing list I typically get reminders for Christmas and Easter. It's been a few years since I ordered chocolate Easter eggs filled with candy. This was a tradition in my home growing up. They have several sizes to choose from. The largest egg has over a pound of candy. They offer online ordering, however I called for a special arrangement. The staff is always super and I love talking with the ladies who have lovingly made hand dipped chocolates for decades. I ordered two large with peanut butter, toffee and dark secrets. Three of my favorites too! Of course the kids would share right? LOL Staff at Lowery's called to confirm the order was complete and mailing from Indiana to Virginia overnight. My package arrived the next day packed nicely with ice packs to ensure they would not be affected by temperature. As always the candy was pure heaven and my daughter ate both egg and a pound within the week. It's that good! My son is more disciplined and enjoys one a day. Toffee is both of there favorites. Lowery's closes for the Summer, so get your order in by mid May. They ship any where in the U.S. The chocolates are among the best I've ever tasted and they continue to use old school methods and guarded secret family recipes. Lowery's is local, not chain and welcomes new customers to spread the word of their history of candy making that dates to the 1940's.

loose nuts in a box. All that and a bad attitude for 30 dollars!

Last year I went the service was fantastic. This year the Saturday before Mother's Day I stopped in with all the moms in the car to buy them chocolate. There's an older lady with glasses very tall playing with the chocolates with her hands no gloves on. I don't know who the owner is and who the other two people were but they were not very nice. I asked for bonbon size and they got insulted. I asked for a pound of chocolate assorted and another pound of chocolate with nuts. The lady just threw nuts into the box. I couldn't believe they wouldn't go individually into wrappers whatever. The biggest insult was on me putting up with people that don't want me in their place and at the register charging me $62 for 2 pounds of chocolate guess who's never going there again. I'd rather have truffles from Macy's Godiva brand. At least I get a beautiful presentation in the world's best chocolate and a lower price. If you don't wanna be nice to your customer sell the place to somebody that will and don't play with the food with your hands with no gloves on after you've been messing with the register and credit cards I just can't even believe I have to tell someone older this sort of thing.

Looove Lowery's and have since I was a kid. My grandma use to buy us their giant chocolate Easter eggs with treats inside. And every Holiday season my grandma gifted Lowery's to her clients or my school teachers as thank you's. As an adult and living so far away I miss having Lowery's all the time and I'm so thankful they ship. We have picked up traditional holiday boxes to take home this year along with other little treats. Mixed holiday box is $24(I think, but it maybe $25) - I know it's not cheap, but that's because everything is going up in pricing. But, Consider shopping local and supporting small business, Lowery's has been a Muncie/ Yorktown tradition for almost 80 years. Let's help them keep going.

It was the perfect bread for our lunch. It was a French loaf, and though it didn't have any spices or seeds in it, it had so much flavor, and was super soft. It toasted up nicely, too. You can tell that the guy who makes the breads and cookies (yes, he makes cookies, too) is really passionate about what he does. He took the time to explain his process and what he puts into his loafs. I want to go back to the farmers market and buy one of his sweet breads next time.

The loaves have great texture, flavor and now I'm totally motivated to get to the Winter Market this weekend. I bought a jalapeño/bacon/cheese loaf and a garlic cheese loaf plus his signature bread. It is all delicious. His signature loaf in the summer is a bread shape, in the winter it's a round shape. It's great for sandwiches or toast. My advice is to get to the market early if you want bread, at 9:00 he was already selling out of items.

I don't play with donuts. I'm a donut-eating fool. Donuts are my thing. I have glaze running through my bloodstream. I've never eaten better donuts than the ones I got from Concannon's in Muncie. In fact, I'm planning another trip to Muncie JUST to visit Concannon's and get some donuts. What's a two-hour round-trip drive when you can be rewarded with amazing donuts during your journey? I visited Concannon's by myself, and although I wanted one of each of the donuts they had in the bakery case, I limited myself to three donuts: a glazed pretzel-shaped yeasted donut, a blueberry cake donut and an old fashioned donut. My go-to at any donut shop is usually a glazed twist, but they don't have glazed twists here! Instead, they have a glazed pretzel-shaped donut, which turned out to have all of the elements of a glazed twist, but it was just bigger and more twisty. It was amazing, pillowy, slightly sweet and even more delicious when you pull it apart with your fingers and eat it bit by bit. The blueberry cake and old-fashioned donuts were my favorites, though. These melted in my mouth, especially the old-fashioned. It was so tender and fresh. The old-fashioned is one of those kinds of donuts that I wish I enjoyed with some coffee, but instead, I ate it solo while dancing around delightedly in my hotel room. Concannon's has lots of other sweets, desserts and baked goods, like cakes (including mini cakes and individual cake slices), cookies, whoopie pies, chocolates, popcorn, candies and all sorts of other goodies. There is also a cafe with coffee and other beverages available. This is a must-visit if, like me, you love donuts, but also a must-visit in general because it's such a Muncie institution.

Eventually she got off and sat us down at one of the tables in the bar area. I noticed all the wait staff were crowded around next to it where the kitchen meets the bar, and just chatting. I found it odd considering there's only one hostess and then there's all of these waitstaff just mingling about. But, being short staff is typical these days so I suppose that's probably how it is there. That's probably why the bartender was the one who waited on us as well. She was quite nice, and definitely knew how to make a good drink. I could hardly taste the alcohol in both. The first one I got was a lemonade type if I remember correctly, It was quite refreshing. The second drink I ordered was a blackberry margarita, which was honestly not good. I'm not big on sour, and it was pucker your lips and just drink it quick type sour for me. The rim had salt, and although I'm not a big salt rim person, that was probably my favorite part besides the actual blackberry floating in it. If you like sour you'd probably love it, but personally it was not for me. As far as food goes, we ordered the hummus appetizer to start. It came out fairly quick, and damn it was good. The fried pita bread with flakes of salt on top were our favorites. I could eat a whole big bowl of that alone if I could. When we almost were done with that, our food came out. My friend had ordered their crispy chicken in the dill pickle hot style, and both him and I were surprised at the amount of fries that came with. It was like fries with a side of chicken sandwich. He gave me a bite of his sandwich, and we both agreed it wasn't spicy or dill-y enough. The fries were honestly my favorite part out of all the food. They were so crisp and kept their warmth pretty well. They were also dusted in cinnamon sugar, which just made them 1000% better. Sometimes at other places you get them and they can be soggy or not have anything on them. They make them the right way here! For my meal, I got the drunken dory, I was debating on that or the blackened salmon salad, but figured why not go with some fries. Seeing how much fries my friend got vs myself, I was a little disappointed, but in the end he ended up stuffed whereas I had just enough. I really liked the plating on this, putting the fish on top of the fries so as the outside stays crispy on the fish. It did work, and overall was very nice. Could've used a bit of salt, and came out very hot though. All the food retained its heat very well. Their tartar sauce was also quite good, and as you can expect the coleslaw was nothing to write home about. I would definitely come back here again, probably try more of their apps and beers, I definitely like it better than some of the breweries over where I live in Virginia, so if you haven't tried it I highly recommend you do!
