My first visit was today. I purchased a pile of t-bones. So, so good! Flavorful, tender, absolutely perfect. I will definitely be back!

Yay, the first to review! I'm surprised no one has reviewed Munsee Meat yet, but it seems Muncie…read morehas less Yelp action. My review is based only on my experience with their new AFM pickup option - that is how I discovered them. You can order online via their website and opt to have delivered (if you live locally), pickup at the store, or pickup at their new AFM machine. The AFM machine is like a meat ATM, when your order is ready they'll send you a QC code, you go to the machine, scan your code and the locker with your order will unlock for you. It's great for socially distancing and no-contact pickup, or even for those ordering from out of town or need to pickup after-hours. I had a little bit of delay with my order being ready in time, because their truck didn't come in. But they communicated that with me and kept me posted on when the truck would arrived. Prices are very reasonable for meat here! Some of the lowest around. 4 lbs of taco meat for only $15! Also great prices on chicken, ribeye, and bacon.

I ordered 10 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast that the Munsee Meats website described as…read more"Boneless, split, trimmed, and clean... Just remove from seal and portion to your preference!" The chicken came in a plastic bag that was filled with juice. The chicken wasn't split, trimmed, or clean. After draining the juice from the bag and trimming the chicken, I wound up with 8 pounds of meat. I also got five pounds of ground round (85/15). When I opened the package it looked like it had a lot more than 15% fat and it had a mushy texture. I went to the Munsee Meats store today and they told me that they receive their ground round in a tube and it is normal to have a mushy texture.

As our weekend wound down, we all decided we wanted to go out for a special dinner. The suggestion came to check out Ron Lahody's Trust Your Butcher Steakhouse. It's about four blocks, easily within walking distance for most and with street parking around for those not able to walk that distance, from the Courtyard and I have to admit I was in for something a bit more premium. Lahody grew up around the meat business, though entered it a bit later after some time in the Marines, graduating from Ball State, working in the family business, and then spending 22 years in home remodeling. Finally, he opened Lahody meats in 2008 and then years later made it to the actual steakhouse business. Lahody still owns Lahody Meats in Muncie, recently opened a steakhouse in Anderson, and yet this spot is the original. As a wheelchair user, I was definitely looking for something wheelchair friendly. Downtown Muncie tends to be older and you can never be certain. I'd gone wheeling around the area the day before and was pretty sure this would be safe. We made our reservation for the end of our work day and then headed over to the steakhouse. I instantly fell in love with the place. It's intimate yet finely decorated. It has the traditional steakhouse vibe with a wood, warm environment, a nicely done bar area, and a couple spots that were clearly made for accessibility. We were placed in one of those booth/tables - small yet nicely sized and none of us ever felt over-cramped. I sat at the end of the booth while my friends took the inside seats. Our server, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, was wonderful from beginning to end. The young woman was very friendly and helpful. Service was nicely paced, attentive, and never intrusive. It's worth noting that while you can eat somewhat modestly here, and they do have specials, this really is a higher-end steakhouse designed for premium dining. We ordered a couple appetizers at $15 each - candied bacon and green tomatoes. I had never tried candied bacon and kind of fell in love with it. My two peers enjoyed the green tomatoes. My peers enjoyed alcohol, a couple brews each with a solid variety available, and I enjoyed my usual unsweetened iced tea. We all ordered steaks, a definite rarity for me. One peer went for filet mignon. Myself and the other for a New York Strip. You get two sides with a steak. I saw they had roasted potatoes, an absolute favorite of mine, and I doubled an order for my two sides. Lahody himself was in-house. He's an older gent, silver-haired yet impeccably dressed. He was introducing himself to customers and sitting at the end of the bar when I left. When he thanked you for coming, the gratitude felt sincere. Service? Top-notch. Accessibility? I didn't visit the restroom, however, everything was accessible and comfortable. The steak? Oh my, I haven't had a steak this good in a long time. It was cooked as ordered and prepared beautifully. The roasted potatoes were nicely seasoned and simply sublime. This was a definite splurge for me, however, as we were celebrating finishing up a non-profit film it felt like a beautiful way to celebrate with friends in an environment where I felt welcome. There's no question I'll return.
