Ribs and wings with the Caesar salad upgrade. Also with a side of brisket.
Rob C.

Went here with a big group. Food was surprisingly good. Given the location I was expecting Taurus Trapp type quality. It wasn't that. I ordered the ribs and wings and asked for an extra bit of brisket. The ribs were thick and juicy. They also had a good bite and were not fall off the bone, which is what I prefer. They could've had a little more sauce though. The wings were OK. They were a medium size and the honey garlic sauce that I got was average. The brisket was not good. It was dry. Extra Caesar salad for three dollars wasn't worth it. It was OK but not three dollars worth of stuff. Staff took a long time to get her order. We had a group of 16 and we were only assigned one person. She took quite a while to get our things and that was a little annoying.

Lowertown Salad, $18.75 prior to tax

Lowertown Brewery is located in downtown Ottawa that has a nice outdoor (covered) patio that is dog friendly. My husband, our little girl dog and I decided to have dinner here on a Friday night. We walked in around 6:10 pm and were seated immediately by the hostess. After looking over the menus, we ended up ordering: Jumbo Bavarian Pretzel, $16.25 prior to tax- This jumbo soft pretzel came with a side of mustard and a side of beer cheers. The size of this pretzel was bigger than I was expecting and surprised that it hung on a hook. One order is really perfect to share with 3 other people. I loved the beer cheese and preferred it much more over the mustard. Lowertown Salad, $18.75 prior to tax- I wanted something healthy and so I opted for a salad. I had asked our server to place the dressing on the side but I guess he forgot to put that in the order since my dressing wasn't on the side. This salad was a good size to share with another. It came with a nice spring mix, dried cranberries, shredded carrots, sliced cucumbers, goat cheese. The salad was good and did taste fresh. Butchers Experience, $39.95 prior to tax- This massive meal comes with 4 ribs, brisket, quarter chicken, cole slaw, a side and a small corn bread. My husband picked fries. This meal is really more than enough to share with 3 people. The chicken was good and the brisket was okay. The ribs were also fine. But I have had better barbecue. 20 oz El Camino- My husband opted for a beer. I wasn't a fan of it but he liked it. ---------------------------- (Total= $97.06 after tax, prior to tip) I was afraid that because we were sitting outside, that I thought the service would not be attentive. But our server was pretty good at checking up on us throughout our meal, refilling our water and taking away dirty dishes. After we were given menus by our server, the hostess that sat us earlier was so very kind to bring a bowl of water for our little girl (I didn't even ask, she just brought it out for her). Overall, we had a great and positive dining experience. I would consider coming back here again the next time we visit downtown Ottawa.

Wings and fries. Just... no. Open mike... omg, no. Lol. Service, decent but food took forever. Tiny wings.

2.5 stars rounded up. Not sure with all the choice, how we ended up here late night but... there was a patio. Not busy. We just wanted a quick bite. Good location. Open mike was happening inside and without going into too much detail, that was really, really bad. Cat on a hot tin roof bad. Painful. The prices were high so we shared a wings and fries plate. Gravy on the side. Bathrooms. Dirty. Gnats flying all over in there and bar area. Hand blowers in barhrooms, broken. This place needs work. Food took forever to come. Server was nice though. Smallest wings I have ever seen. 1lb = 8 tiny wings. Dry. Stale. Fries were hot, fresh and well seasoned. The gravy was soup. We each had 1 Sangria each a red and white. Worst I've ever had. Tasted nothing like Sangria. Almost rancid. Grabbed our overpriced bill and split.

I came to this restaurant in a group of 13. We had an attentive waitress and found the restaurant to be very clean. I ordered the 1/4 chicken and ribs and really enjoyed the food. There were mixed reviews across the table. Thank you Lowertown for having us!

Came to Ottawa for work and decided to stop here to grab something to eat with my coworkers. It must of been around 3:30 pm and there was only two other people at the bar having beer. We set down and the server approached us for our order. We started with a beer and decided to share an appetizer, which were the Chicken Nachos. They were okay but nothing that would WOW me. I then asked the server what was the number selling plate in the restaurant and he said the Brisket Platter, so I decided to give it a try. The platter came with brisket, coleslaw, French fries, and a side of ketchup, one of my coworkers ordered the 1/4 chicken platter shown in the pictures. My platter was really dry and cold while my coworkers were absolutely delicious, the chicken was falling off the bones. I guess it has to do with what's fresh and in the moment, because the brisket was definitely not fresh, but the fresh fries were hot and really crispy. Overall, it was mediocre and probably won't be giving the place a second try anytime soon.

Ok service and fair beer. All in all a cozy atmosphere and vibe. I wasn't overly impressed with anything at the brewery but nothing was terrible. It's a 3. An average brewery that is average in every way. Good location near a local market. Sort of a rustic feel.

Bytown Brown Ale. Its not bad.

Meh....in this case the 3 star average is perfect. The beer is decent, but it is BORING in there. Brew pubs are everywhere and most of them have some really good beers. Atmosphere is key, and the music and staff are as exciting as a trip to the dentist. I didn't have any food, but I can imagine its just as exciting. I passed by here hundreds of times, and its my first time stopping. Last time too.

This is a great spot to grab a beer and some food. Good selection of beers. I like dark lagers and this one was really good. Would definitely order again. Ordered the brisket meal which was super tasty. Also loved the coleslaw (very homemade style here, super tasty) and the mini cheddar biscuit and gravy. Salad had kale and pickled onions, a nice change from typical side salad. Atmosphere was chill, server laid back and good level of attentive. My only suggestion would be to swap out beers in the 6 beer flight to include the seasonal beer as an option too.

If you're eating at Lowertown, you need not look beyond the title for your expectation. With a food menu heavily focused on BBQ, this is a brewery that serves BBQ, not a BBQ joint that serves beer. The first time I went here, I was hoping to escape the summer heat, but not only did they have all the doors and windows open, they also didn't have the AC on. No big deal. (Being that it's Ottawa, this place probably doesn't even have air conditioning.) Either way, this situation called for one of their handful of cold beers on tap, which cooled me down a bit. I've now tried their lager, their red wheat and one of their seasonals. None exceeded a 5% alcohol content, but the quality was still quite good. I ordered the meatloaf burger, but was instead served the brisket sandwich. In fairness to the bartender who messed up, I discussed both options with him, so he probably got confused. That said, I was the only customer at the bar so this wasn't exactly a rush hour slip-up, but I did come in around the shift change. In the end, it didn't matter because the brisket was delicious, even though there was more bread on the sandwich than meat. The hand-cut fries, however, were the best part. Each of these bad boys is easily 1/8 of an Idaho baked potato. The second time I went here, 6 of us shared the Butcher Platter. For $49.95, you get 1/4 lb of corned beef, 1/4 lb. on pork, 1/4 lb. of brisket, 1/2 chicken, and a choice of 4 sides. We opted for two orders of fries, a side of the watermelon salad and the cole slaw. All of the sides were great, as was the corned beef, pork and brisket. But the chicken breast was as dry as the bone it was attached to. The thigh was a little more moist, but I can't speak for the wing. Bottom line is that if you go here just for their beer and fries, you'll leave content. If you're in the mood for BBQ, I recommend The Smoque Shack one block down.

Lowertown Brewery is the final beer destination for the night. It was a weekday and the place was not too busy. There were 6 beers on draft so we ended up doing a small sampler while the boys decided to get some food. Bartender was lukewarm when I asked what on taps, but beers is beers so we were OK with that. We sampled Dark/Pumpkin/Bitter/Red/Lager/Raspberry Wheat. Nothing too exciting or outstanding. Just decent enough for everyday casual drinking. I did enjoy the Peanut Crusted Bacon ($5.95) and my friends shared the 1/2 Signature Meat. There was some live performers singing that evening and some comedians on stage. Not too entertaining and a little too loud for a night cap. Maybe I was just a little too tired and was ready for bed.

Fantastic Service, good beer. Food looked good but I was not super hungry. Wish they had more apps on the menu.

If a beer mentions pineapple, you'll actually taste the pineapple. Their beers sell out so quickly so it's recommended to place an order to pick up at their location or line up at local businesses that have advertised receiving their beers. I like fruity beers so I particularly love their Los tabernacos beer but honestly all their IPAs are amazing. Their actual location is really nice. It's not very big, it sits about 20 people, only 10 people or so now because of covid-19 measures. There is no terrasse. They have a food menu. We didn't order any food but the people 2m away from us ordered lobster rolls and salads, looked délicious. They also sell merchandise like tshirts and glasses. They are taking all safety precautions and even asked us to wait 5 min to be seated since their disinfectant product used on the tables and chairs has a 5 min contact time. I appreciated the importance they put on these measures. We had never tried their stouts before so we ordered the Nathan (an imperial sweet stout) and the Black is beautiful ( an imperial stout). Both stouts were so smooth. The black is beautiful tasted on coconut, this was my favorite. This microbrasserie is making really high quality products, highly recommend trying it out!

The Short Version: Local microbrewery that brews beer and…read morealso makes flavoured seltzer under the name City Seltzer. A few creative beer flavours. The Long Version: I'm not much of a beer drinker, although my husband is. Luckily this microbrewery not only makes beer but they also make seltzer, and I love seltzer! Lol. Their seltzer flavours are limited, so I've tried most of them. I've tried the Berry Whip, Cool Melon and Orange Cream. They occasionally have limited edition flavours and I recently tried the Tiger Fruit one (kiwi and mixed berries). I find that most of their core seltzer flavours are pretty ordinary and not as creative as their beer flavours. Like they have an Earl Grey Marmalade beer and they had a chocolate chip pecan cookie-flavoured beer. I wish they had more creative seltzer flavours. I would totally drink an Earl Grey Marmalade seltzer! Lol. Ironically, my husband does not like what he calls "weird" beer flavours, so he wasn't crazy about the ones my brother gave him for his birthday, lol, but he likes the more "normal" flavours. Oh, I recently tried their newest flavour, Grape Jelly, and this is my favourite flavour so far. The brewery is in an industrial park. They have seating and have a limited food menu, mostly snacks. They have a corner where you can buy cans to-go. Their beers are also available to purchase at the LCBO and their seltzers are available at several retailers like some coffee shops (such as Equator Coffee) and some grocery stores (such as Natural Food Pantry). There is free parking on-site. Review #222 (2025)

Tip: City Seltzer is yummy and sugar-free…read more My review is about the seltzer part of Dominion City Brewing. Its City Seltzer line is awesome. I grew up drinking Original New York Seltzer. The seltzer came in short glass bottles with a colourful label, depending on the flavour that you got. I don't know what happened, but this company died and somehow resurrected itself. I don't see this brand often in my area. In July 2024, I was in Winnipeg at a Giant Tiger. It featured a limited tiger tail flavour in the company's City Seltzer line. Proceeds went to Food Banks Canada. It also had berry whip and city citrus varieties. I bought a can of each flavour. I loved them all. Tiger tail had orange, vanilla, and anise flavours. They worked well. It was my first time having anise in a seltzer. It's too bad that it's no longer available. I'd get it again. The berry whip and citrus seltzers were yummy. The fruit and citrus flavours were nice. They weren't in-your-face strong. They were refreshing and perfect. I was in Steinbach and Winnipeg this past summer. Sadly, no tiger tail or any City Seltzer were available at the Giant Tiger locations that I had visited in either city. A few months ago, I was shopping at my local Whole Foods Market. I stumbled across a City Seltzer display. What?! I saw two flavours that I had never seen before: orange cream and cool melon. I grabbed the former to try. I love anything that tastes like an orange creamsicle. This one was so good. I keep dreaming about it. Whole Foods sells City Seltzers in individual cans and a case. I like trying out the former first before I commit to the latter. At this rate, I'd get a case of each flavour available. I still need to try the cool melon. I'm hoping that it makes me feel like I'm at a spa when I drink it. My friend, Jennifer, let me know that this company is in Ottawa. Note to self: I must visit this store the next time I'm in the city. I'm a fan and I want a t-shirt. All the bubbles. No troubles. True. I love this seltzer! (422)

The wooden tables and decor give it a really nice vibe. The beer and food are ordered separately. The bartender was really nice and gave good insight into their beers and their specials. I can't recall the other beer we got but it was a bit higher abv, but still had malty flavor. The food was a hit too. We got the pretzel and the schnitzel platter. I was a bit confused by the cranberry, but it worked really well with the meat. It was a pretty large portion, perfect for sharing. We opted for the salad instead of fries, and it was a good choice. Fresh greens and lightly dressed, perfect on a hot day. The schnitzel was well cooked, nice and tender for the most part, though the ends were a bit over cooked and chewy.
