I'm glad to say that in 2026, The Hojack remains a solid grill and ice cream spot!…read more I brought my mom here for Mother's Day 2026 for dinner. We arrived around 5pm and the parking lot was packed, but we still managed to find a spot. The staff working here are young and courteous. After looking over the food menu, it didn't take long to reach the ordering window and place our dinner order. The Hojack accepts cash and credit cards, but there's an additional processing fee with credit cards. Mom secured a table for us while I stood by the other window, waiting for our order number to be called. There were several tables and they're all covered so that's very nice! For Mother's Day 2026, it was cool and windy, so we didn't stay once we finished eating. For dinner, mom ordered a turkey burger, no mayonnaise (this comes topped with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise), I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with all the toppings (lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise), and we split a basket of fries. It took about 15 minutes before our food was ready, but everything was made-to-order, so it all was incredibly fresh and hot! Even though the food is basic, The Hojack does a great job! We were sad to see they weren't serving their ice cream nachos, so we decided to go elsewhere for dessert (plus we were freezing at this point haha). The Hojack is a no-frills spot, but they nail the grill/fryer basics! As the weather gets warmer, I see myself coming back for a cold, ice cream treat - Hopefully it'll be for some ice cream nachos!

I love The Taco Place! I have only gone for the Mexican food, but they have something for everyone!…read moreIn addition to Mexican, they have hot dogs, burgers and fries and also a selection of ice cream. Sadly, on this visit they did not have any tamales, but my food was still delicious! I opted to get a surf & turf taco (shrimp & barbacoa) and the governador (shrimp with grill onions). There is a bar with a selection of toppings for your tacos including cilantro, pico, hot sauce, pickled onions & more. It also has toppings for burgers/dogs if you went that way. My food was hot, fresh & satisfying. The service was friendly. There is a lot of covered & uncovered outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. They also have a playground and some hammocks. It is a very nice setting to enjoy your food. One if these days I'm gonna get some ice cream too! I will definitely be back to The Taco Place... Hopefully to enjoy some tamales! :)

At first, we thought it was just an ice cream place, until noticing the taco sign. The service, fast, friendly, and authentic taste, affordable menu, and for those that have the sweet tooth, their is the ice cream for dessert option. We spilt the two taco deal, and ordered a gringo to share as well. All the food was savory, seasoned perfect, delicious and hearty. Goes to show you, smaller towns like Barker, NY know how to deliver for Mexican food, and who doesn't love ice cream !! If your hungry and find yourself in Barker, NY, Golden Hills State park, stop and order, you wont be disappointed, and pleasantly surprised. Thanks The Taco Place....for a perfect Cinco de Mayo!!!

We stopped into Cone Zone on a whim while in the Albion area. This is a CASH ONLY establishment…read more The menu has the typical assortment of options you'd expect to see at an ice cream stand of this nature. There are soft serve and hard-scoop cones, regular and deluxe sundae options, "Blizzards" (soft-serve with mix-ins), milkshakes, etc. My husband went with his favorite, a banana split. It was a standard banana split size and construction, with fresh bananas. It was $8, a decent deal for a banana split these days. Any hard-scoop flavor ice cream can be turned into a milkshake, and my son went with a cannoli ice cream milkshake for $6. I had a Reese's Pieces sundae for $7. Instead of fudge and peanut butter topping, I asked for all peanut butter. The sundae was just okay. It was served in a small round cup. A very limited amount of toppings could fit. It was essentially 90% ice cream. The best part of a sundae (and what you pay more for) is all of the ooey-gooey toppings, so if it is mostly ice cream, the ice cream had better be pretty good. But nope. The vanilla soft serve was just fine, nothing exceptional. When in Albion for ice cream, Cone Zone is a good enough choice. (But The Shack in Lyndonville, not too far away from Albion, has far superior sundaes, more choices, and takes cards; just an FYI.)
