A lot of ice cream places around here serve up Perry's. It's a local corporation that fills grocery stores with its signature flavours. It's pretty average, at best, although people in WNY seem to like it. Cut out the middle woman and get it right from the store, save some money. And yet most parlours in these parts do exactly that: buy Perry's from Wegmans or Tops, then sell it at a massive mark-up. I refuse to give those sorts of parlours more than a 4, and I usually give less. Then every now and again you find a gem. Cruiser's is that gem. Not a lot of people drive through LeRoy, NY these days, since most are on the pay-for-play Thruway I-90. But if you were to come East from Rochester on 490, and instead of entering the I-90, you just keep on going , you will soon be in LeRoy, named after a girl named Jennifer LeRoy, maybe. And here in LeRoy, tucked away and hidden on the main street west of the town, is Cruiser's. And it's the homemade ice cream you dreamed of. Was looking for a place to sit around and be pathetic. It's a tragedy that it's not more popular and beloved with the kids of the region. A lot of people go to the Perry's places because those people are suckers for brand names and don't understand the concept of homemade and local ice cream. Anyone can sell buckets of Perry's. The woman at Cruiser's was telling me how, because they cost a few cents more than the Perry's places (because they make all their own sh** and don't even make much of a profit on it), people complain about the prices. Prices were pretty fair; for the three of us, we paid just over $11. They do offer some specialty milkshakes that looked interesting, which comes with a glass mug you keep. We will work our way to trying one of those sometime. We did not eat any of the diner food this time, but there were a couple of patrons at the picnic tables with takeout boxes. Mom secured a table for us while I stood by the other window, waiting for our order number to be called. There were several tables and they're all covered so that's very nice! For Mother's Day 2026, it was cool and windy, so we didn't stay once we finished eating. For dinner, mom ordered a turkey burger, no mayonnaise (this comes topped with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise), I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with all the toppings (lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise), and we split a basket of fries. It took about 15 minutes before our food was ready, but everything was made-to-order, so it all was incredibly fresh and hot! Even though the food is basic, The Hojack does a great job! We were sad to see they weren't serving their ice cream nachos, so we decided to go elsewhere for dessert (plus we were freezing at this point haha). Another wonderful Abbott's location, this one way out in Brockport. It's not in the cramped little centre of town, it's further south, so it has a nice spacious parking lot and you can get "in and out" without being caught up with the students, shoppers and traffic. If Hipsters came here, it'd be Ab-Beard's. Sort of like Blackbeard's but with much less piracy and much less Ab-development (custard is not equal to hot abs). I don't know why pirates are so bad at developing Abs. They just arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. What I liked about it: (1) The Lemon Sorbet was *amazing*. It must be "dairy sorbet" because I had the non-dairy version at Abbott's Webster and hated it. This on the other hand is some of the best sorbet I've ever eaten. (2) The girls working here are so nice, it's almost painful. And they give out great big portions too. Such sweethearts. You just want to scoop them up and hug them, they're so nice. Or maybe you want to do other things with them but that's your f***ing business, creep. (3) The prices are slightly cheaper than at other Abbott's. (4) They had Salted Caramel Custard which was really good, although the Lemon Sorbet was the hands-down winner. Lemon Sorbet was creamier and milkier than I expected but so damn amazing. When you spend the entire "Salted Caramel" portion of the review talking about the Lemon Sorbet, you know how damn good it was. (5) They have inside and outside seating, since I know you love it outside, and love it inside even more, baby. If Matt Damon came here using a fake passport driving a tiny VW Beetle or Citroen or whatever it was, it'd be Ab-Bourne's. And Paul Oakenfold would DJ while you slurped down your Sorbet. And made out with random French girls. What I didn't like: (1) The regular cones were a bit hard and stale. It's OK, I often throw them out anyway. (2) They have weird pseudo-political uber-patriotic army stuff all over the walls. Maybe Brockport has a ton of soldiers heading off to war.
