High County Marine definitely has the best prices, from my experience. The reservation system is pretty straight forward, although make sure if you're renting more than one of the same type of equipment, each item should have a different number (kayak 1, kayak 2, etc). Also, you should make sure you bring anyone using the equipment up to sign a waiver and get fitted for life jackets. And the people there are really great. You can tell that they enjoy their jobs. And they are really understanding when you want to make changes and they explain things thoroughly, especially the woman who seems to run the show (probably because people don't listen well or don't take care of the equipment). If you want solid equipment, at a fair price, with easy access to the reservoir, definitely go with High Country Marine.

When we got there they rudely told us we were an hour late and they "put away" our paddleboards. If we had come at 4 we would've been out until 6 anyways...I truly don't see a difference. They don't cite a cancellation policy online. Anyways, the entire interaction was incredibly rude and they were very condescending and acted like they couldn't believe we could've gotten the time wrong. Innocent mistake, not very kind or understanding company.

Beaches could probably be made a little more open with additional amenities, but given the small spaces they're allocated and the fact that it's free it's hard to argue with that. Would recommend checking out the beach at the south end, or the Baited Hook for good summer food. Launch your boat at the north end for small wait times and good access. During the winter, the Rail Trail lines the eastern portion of the lake for super easy snowmobile access. Also great for ice skating and pond hockey if the snow cover (and ice depth) allows!

Calling ahead, they answered both phone calls immediately and were cool and efficient in their response- young guy (maybe early 20's?)- nice guy/kid. When we got there, it was a simple and painless process. Get your vest, choose some paddles (both in great, solid quality) and get on our kayak, which the employee had in the water, waiting. He gave us the basics and off we went. On our return paddle in, he saw us coming in and came up to the docking area and helped us both off. On our way up the little walk I turned back to see the view of the water when not even 2 minutes passed by and the employee had already lifted the kayak and started washing it off and cleaning it. It shows that this guy and the company care about quality and presentation as well as customer feeling and well being. Kudos to them. Loved the experience. Take a chance folks, you won't be dissappointed.

The folks at Woodard went out of their way and picked up bait for us the day before we rented so we would have some to fish. The day of the trip they were helpful explaining the layout of the lake giving fishing tips and tips about places to see. We would definitely book with them again.

The first time I camped at Emerald State Park, I was 11 years old. I am now 29 and my family has…read morecamped here for a week each and every summer in the same campsite for the past 18 years. As a native Vermonter, I am accustomed to beautiful state parks in picturesque locations, but there is something special about this one. The campground is large, with 3 separate loops (A, B, and C), and while I have only ever camped at one site in the park, many of the campsites are in wooded areas with more privacy than many other state parks provide. The sites are great, the facilities are clean, but the truly magical part of Emerald Lake State Park is the lake itself. Campers can choose to hike the half mile trail down to the lake from any of the loops at the campground, or drive down to the parking lot and walk in (less than a quarter mile). The short walk from the parking lot winds along a little canal lined with partly shaded areas with many picnic tables for those who want to picnic away from the beach. Canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats are available for rental at the beach, and there is a small island located a few hundred yards offshore. I recommend an evening swim to the island when the beach is quiet, before heading back to your campsite to sit in front of the fire and look for constellations in the sky, which is what you'll find me doing each summer for at least the next 50 years.

Their website is a bit confusing, but I sent them an email and they responded within a few hours. Website said that we needed to bring our own pedals if we didn't want to use the clip in pedals, but that wasn't the case which was good. On the day that we were trying to rent the bikes, the website was randomly down. I called them and they were super helpful. Took down my name and set aside 4 hybrids for us. We were running late and I called to tell them that and the man who picked up the phone was a bit short with me on the phone. We finally got there an hour late. They happened to have put the bikes away since they assumed we weren't coming. But the guy there was super helpful and quickly got the bikes out and got us going within 10min. He was especially quick because he knew we were trying to catch sunset and were only going to be out for an hour and a half before it got too dark to ride. He even cut the price down from 30 to 25$ since we were going to be out for such a little time. We set off and within 5 min I had a flat. I called him and asked if I could get another bike if I rode back. He said to just wait there and he would come meet me. He rode a replacement bike out himself and met me within 5min. It was so helpful! We were able to return the bikes after the shop closed which was great too. Bikes were great to ride and helmets were good too. Sure the website could use some work (or be functional), and maybe some of the people there don't have the greatest customer service, but the person we worked with was absolutely fantastic and it was honestly the best experience I've had at a rental place in forever.
