Very nice park, very clean campsites. Bathrooms, while well stocked with tp where kinda gross. Not swept and you had to pay for hot water in the shower. Nice swimming area although very rocky. A very rustic camping experience overall and a lovely setting. Nice .8 mile hike to the overlook but bring bug spray!!! read more

Family Camping Trip: We have visited this area for many years, staying at a different local campground. Unfortunately, with the big June storms our favorite place was flooded and we ended up here. Not knowing anything about the sites, we chose a lean-to called "Cherry" online. Check in was easy, just pulled up, and found our tag at the entry booth, never spoke w/anyone. Cash for ice and wood w/small wheelbarrows if needed. Cherry was in a line of other lean-to's. All sites are very wooded, with little direct sunlight. Great for sleeping, not so great for drying your stuff. Couldn't figure out why it was the only one considered a "prime" site ($). I wouldn't recommend it w/small kids as there is a big drop off to a trail downhill to a small field. Also several exposed cinderblocks and roots, making it hard to find a good spot for our 4-p tent, and causing some trip hazards, esp in the dark. One day a strange/rude post-it appeared telling us to move our tent, onto the gravel, from the edge of the site. We waited for a ranger to stop by to talk to us about it, but that never happened. We were def in our site space. We never moved the tent, as there was a lot of rain, and I was not risking a wet tent for our two young kids. Everyone, even larger or younger groups, were respectful of quiet hours. Bathroom was clean, stocked w/toilet paper, and box fans trying to dry the wet floors. Main bathrooms had a shower($hot), and there was also a private handicapped stall w/inside shower too. That was helpful w/the kids, so either of us could go inside w/them. One of the biggest challenges is that there is no where to wash dishes. No real guidance either. We were not prepared w/forest safe dish soap. There are riverside sites, which were full, but they were a short walk up the hill to the bathroom, not very convenient in the middle of the night or in emergencies. Swimming hole here is very nice, and open to the public for paid day use. Once it rained the current got serious. Lots of nice trails, but many were still washed out by the previous storms. There were some bumps, and we missed our old faithful, but still happy we got to camp in Vermont this summer. read more

First visit this past Friday. As with all of the VT State Parks, the folks are super friendly and inviting upon arrival and they get you checked in quick and point you to your site. We always get the prime leanto spaces when available and at first glance, we thought the site was small, but once we found where we wanted to set up our tent, we realized it was quite spacious. Once the tent was up, I walked up and purchased a full cart of firewood ($24) from the office and a kind older gentleman was all ready to help me collect my cart and I was able to easily wheel it to my site, unload and bring it right back within 15 minutes. They also sell ice at the campground too. Very convenient. Respectful neighbors make this very enjoyable as a family campground, as once quiet hours hit (10pm), the place is super quiet. Heck, by 9pm, we were the only ones still sitting around our fire with music at a very low volume. The area was pummeled with 4.5" of rain the day before, so we were not able to swim in the river that runs along our site, and the local Hamilton Falls was not accessible due to some of the paths being destroyed. Not a huge deal, as we were able to enjoy a two mile hike from within our site and up to Little Ball Mountain with some incredible views. A great experience all around. read more

We camped at the Jamaica State Park campground for 2 nights. It was a very pleasant place to stay although we had a downpour throughout our stay. We made the best of it! Site T22 was a nice spot with a fire ring and picnic table, just a short walk away from the water spigot and bathrooms. The bathrooms were clean and really nice to have a hot shower. The park rangers were so nice and helpful. The area was really pretty and the sites were not on top of each other, there was nobody else camping during that time on account of the rain but if there had been we still would have had some privacy at our site. Would absolutely stay here again. read more

A great park to swim. We swam twice in a week. Even when crowded, there was plenty of room. The water is deep enough to actually swim, but shallow enough for a toddler to wade. Parking is simple and close to the water. The rest of the park looked well-kept, but we stuck closer to the river. There is even a shaded playground for when the little is done swimming. read more

Did the hike to Hamilton Falls in early October. As others have said, 2 miles of flat rail trail along the river and a mile up the mountain. We took the stairs down to the base of the falls, but did not continue the 1/3 mile to the top. We'd love to come back sometime and camp. The park is small and secluded, you really have to know where you're going to find it. I hope it stays that way. read more

Great hike to the waterfall. The first 2 miles are very easy and flat then the last mile is more of a moderate uneven hike up to the waterfall. Overall the hike was 6 miles round trip and was well worth it to the beautiful fall. read more

I went hiking with my wife here and I must say that we had quite a lovely day. We started off by checking out the damn which was pretty cool. There are some beautiful views that were well worth checking out. After that we looked for a hiking trail that would lead us to Angels Falls waterfall. The hike took us about an hour and a half to get to the falls because I was completely obsessed with all the wild mushrooms growing everywhere. I hope you enjoy the pictures that I'm about to post of them. The waterfall itself was actually beautiful and the hiking trails were very chill. I'd rate the difficulty about a two out of five. Some hills and high steps but besides that it was pretty basic. The walk back took us about 40 minutes because I was over the mushrooms. read more

Have been camping in Jamaica, VT every year for the past 8 years with a large group on the river sites. A quiet campground with great hiking trails. The hike up to Hamilton falls is fum and the waterfalll is worth the trip. Bring a bike and camera and check out the Ball dam. Great views ! Clean bathrooms and wood and ice always available. Had a great time at Jamaica as usual. Last year, Chris helped us out a lot when we had a big rowdy multi-car party happening all night. When we got in on Friday, we saw that a more spacious lean-to near the bathrooms was open with fewer occupied sites near it. Corey told us we were in luck and swapped our sites despite having a few technical difficulties. It's so nice to be accommodated so easily and, as a business owner myself, it's great not to have any back-end confusion passed along to the customer. Corey was great and made our weekend! Wonderful swimming nearby, clean sites and bathrooms, at 70% capacity for COVID. We love coming here! read more

Easy and pretty. A winning combination. The trail to Hamilton Falls gets harder but from the parking lot to "The Dumplings" is a walk In the park. Nice place to soak in the sun, laying on giant glacial boulders in the river. Enjoy this lovely spot. read more

Great little park. You can hike in to see the falls, or bike, or hang out at the little beach. Unfortunately you cannot bring your pets.

Traveling through Vermont a few years back I had an opportunity to spend a day in the parking hiking along the river. This is the birth place of my love for photography. Armed with a simple 35 mm point and click camera I captured some awesome images that a decade later I still have hanging in my home. The lighting was perfect that day and I often reflect on how expensive that trip was, as I immediately came home and bought a big boy camera. Then, of course, a few years later I needed a digital SLR and I have been snapping pictures ever since. This park is very accessible and you can see some beautiful scenery without having to leave a well laid out trail. Send me your pics! read more

Jamaica State Park is hands down my favorite place to camp! Corey and Molly (the rangers) were extremely warm and helpful. The park has a great hiking path that takes you to the most beautiful waterfall (Hamilton Falls). Next to the park is the most gorgeous homestead (Bee Well Homestead) where we were able to get fresh veggies, handmade soap and honey. All around an amazing experience. Definitely recommend. For camping out in Southern VT, this hit the spot! VERY hospitable hosts will greet you and give you all the details you'll need about the area (including grocery shopping recommendations and the local coffee spot). At the main office, we checked-in, bought wood, and bought ice...then headed off to our site! *I called in advance to reserve our spot (recommended!) - choose from camping sites (both "regular" and "ideal"/near the river), lean-tos, and (grumble) RV sites. We set up camp at Site #24 - a small plot of land (but really, how much space do you need?). There are five "steps" up to the site. We were able to set up our 4-person tent near the picnic table and fire pit ans still have some wiggle room for coolers. This site isn't listed as an "ideal" site because it is not near the river, but I found its proximity to the water spigot, the restroom, and general seclusion fo the site to be much more convenient. *Small but clean restrooms (one shower stall in the ladies' which is quarter-operated, bring change!). *Really cool playground (yes, I slide the slide and swung the swing....what of it?) and access to the river, fishing holes, and hiking trails (maps available at front office). *We camped the first weekend of the season (May 6th-7th) - it was cold, but not unbearable (bring a blanket and cuddle up with your sweetie!). *For future campers, please keep your pup on your own campsite (people like myself don't enjoy being woken up by clinking collars and an unfamiliar animal scratching at their tent at 6am). If ever I return to Jamaica, Vermont, for a hiking expedition....Jamaica State Park will be my campground of choice! read more

I spent a week here in October and 2 weeks here in May. The location and trails are prime as well as the views from most campsites. There is a beach on the campground where you can enjoy the river and a nice 6 mile hike (round trip) to a sweet waterfall that 10/10 would recommend. There are showers (pay for hot water with quarters), toilets and running water. Most people stayed only a night or two so these accommodations are great for glampers and even better for having to work out here for weeks. Wood is available at $6 a bundle and Ice is also available. If you are staying more than 2 nights I would recommend the wheel barrow full of firewood as it goes quickly. If you hear a pack of what sounds like monkeys at 3 am it is a barred owl. No other wildlife encounters except 2 garden snakes on one of the trails. read more

This park is great whether you're looking to camp overnight or just spend a day in the woods and the fresh air. The main trail takes you from the swimming hole, which bears a bit of bloody pre-Revolutionary history, and along the converted railroad bed that once ran parallel to the West River. As you walk, the trees overhead create a nice interplay of light and shade on the path. To your left, the river gurgles, to your right, the craggy rocks are draped in mosses, lichens, and clumps of wild mushrooms. Thoreau would have approved. Hiking the Overlook Trail just after a rainstorm, we encountered a lot of standing water and the crazed mosquitoes that went with it, so depending on the season consider investing in an eco-friendly insect repellent. The West River trail - smooth and wide enough to walk or bike - takes you past the Dumplings, across a wooden bridge, and finally to the base of the Ball Mountain Dam. There's a biannual dam release for kayakers, otherwise you can safely tube down the river like the giddy kids we saw the day we went. read more

A wonderful state park for swimming and hiking. Lots of trails, and you can hunt for garnets. Great place to relax, hardly ever crowded. One caveat, especially if you have kids with you. Nudity isn't prohibited away from the main areas and campground, so you might just stumble across some skinny dippers or nude sunbathers. read more

Love the park! Love the town! Love the towns people! My wife and I were married in the park, and raised a family returning to the park on most weekends every summer for rest and relaxation. We also recommend the Three Mountain Inn, The Jamaica Coffee House, D&K's store, The Bondville Boys, Mc Neil's beer & ale, The Newfane flea market, Dutton's, Rick's Tavern, The Bondville Fair, and be sure to stop in The Jamaica Community Church on Sunday!
